Well Krytie, Today’s the Day… News Posted by John Hoare on 10th April 2009, 08:46 But sir, I’m just not ready! Six weeks – it’s just not long enough. And it’s worth pointing out that six weeks ago they were still shooting the damn thing… So, what can we say? From the first mentions of Dave, through to hints of VERY INTERESTING NEWS, speculation that was weirdly near the mark, the first real hints from Robert, unofficial announcements, more unofficial announcements, a few official announcements, and then plot details – along with all the bloody stuff since then – it’s been a hell of a ride. And, from our point of view, at least, it’s only just beginning… A reminder then: we’ll be doing our post-specials Dwarfcast after each episode airs (including the Making Of) – we’ll try our best to GET IT UP within two hours of broadcast. As we’ve said before, we’re not going to have time to cover all the media reaction, so please use our Forum to post anything you find that’s interesting (scans and video captures are especially welcome) – we’ll link to all important threads here. And thanks for all your contributions over the past few months, large or small – it quite literally wouldn’t be worth running this site without you. We’re off to prepare for a fucking EPIC three-day party – what will you lot be up to, then? EDIT: TOS has also updated. We’ll spare you the Newsround today – but go and grab one of the new Back to Earth wallpapers to get you in the mood, there’s a good fellow. Or fellass. ASS.
>what will you lot be up to, then? …Going out tonight. Why, is there something important on’telly? >it?s been a hell of a ride Damn right.
A three day party sounds about right. The mutton vindaloo has been marinating nicely since last night. Carpool today, too. Life is good.
>Less than eleven hours. I don?t think I can bear it. You know, as much of a fan as I am, I’m surprisingly mellow right now. I guess, It’ll probably hit me around ten to nine. I just hope I don’t forget to tune in like I did for Back In The Red Pt. III… Had to catch the Sunday repeat if I recall.
Do I sound like a complete killjoy if I say that people should probably try not to expect too much from tonight`s ep? All of the reviews seem to say that it isn`t good but things improve from tomorrow. Maybe it should be watched with that in mind in order to avoid too much disappointment.
Seeing as Doug thinks the whole fanbase will hate him on Saturday, I’m very much ready to watch them all before reaching an opinion!
> Do I sound like a complete killjoy if I say that people should probably try not to expect too much from tonight`s ep? Yes. Fuck off. ;)
> Seeing as Doug thinks the whole fanbase will hate him on Saturday, I?m very much ready to watch them all before reaching an opinion! Sounds like the most sensible thing… It seems a little worrying though that the reviewers have said that some people might be put off by tonight`s ep and Doug has said that they might be put off by tomorrow`s. Hopefully it won`t affect the viewing figures too much.
I have found these interviews Part one Kryton interview (Kryton?!?!?!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeqN-YZCPlM Part two Dave Lister interview http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_ciigJ6RBI&feature=channel_page Part three Arnold Rimmer interview http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2rzL6lZDAw&feature=channel_page Part four Cat interview http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymjDpHKuh20&feature=channel_page Sorry if someone eles has already said this in the forum
>what will you lot be up to, then? Hopefully alone in a dark room with a big bag of Mars Planets and the VHS on stand by, ready for me to press record.
I still have Series VIII to watch, don’t know what time to watch it, maybe I will leave it will 4 and a half hours before the new episode is shown.
>Sorry if someone eles has already said this in the forum Yeah, I did. Some of the better interviews we’ve seen, IMO. Here’s a pretty comprehensive Youtube playlist for BtE (CONTAINS SPOILERY 5-MIN PREVIEW THING): http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=22DC8AD93A62416A
NINE HOURS. (And that was taken from the clock in the transmission suite next door, so it’s FUCKING ACCURATE.)
>Doug has said that they might be put off by tomorrow`s. He didn’t say that, he said that fans will hate him, I’m assuming this means because there is some kind of cliffhanger or something…
Well… 10 years of waiting come to an end tonight. It’s a tough gig for the best in the buisness. Millions of people watching and hoping that what occurs over the next three days is worth the long wait we’ve all had to endure. I know that we all feel (no matter what happens) eternally gratefull to those who never let Dwarf die. To all the G&T readers, fan club members, Craig, Dan, Chris, Robert, Andrew & Doug… I wholeheartily ‘Rimmer salute’ you all. Thank you SO much. Brand new Red Dwarf… Tonight at 9.00pm on Dave. No-one needs reminding, but It feels so good to say It.
> he said that fans will hate him Tsk. Has he no faith in us? I’m quite looking forward to the cliffhanger, or whatever, that he thinks will provoke that reaction.
Updated the article – go and grab your Back to Earth wallpapers! Hooray for fucking GORGEOUS 1920×1200 versions…
>He didn?t say that, he said that fans will hate him, I?m assuming this means >because there is some kind of cliffhanger or something? Yes, that’s what I thought he meant, that at end point Saturday it looks like what has happened to the reality of the crew in the twist, is something fans will hate, and he’ll be chuckling that we have to go through 24 hours of red dwarf “what next” again. Probably not as bad as near 10 years since “the smeg it is though”. I feel slightly better about that VIII ending now, because it’s finally to be proved right. It’s a 2% improvement to it. As for what I’m doing, I have Series I on loud volume as I tidy the house, I’ll be setting the projector up to the sky box later, and then I might have a triple fried egg sandwhich.
>Updated the article – go and grab your Back to Earth wallpapers! Wow. YEARS ago, I had a go at making a fan poster for The Movie. Never got round to finishing it, but I was damn close with the new logo…
I cant wait for tonight and I have a strong feeling that the episodes are going to live up to expectations. Me and some friends have got a projector and surround sound system so its gonna be awesome. I’d also like to say thank you and well done to the G&T team. I’ve been floating around these pages, posting occasionally, for years and I have to say that the last few months coverage has been spectacular. I think its true to say that G&T have contributed about as much to the pre-show build up as Dave themselves and the official site. For me anyway. Splendid job boys and girls, hope to see you at DJ. NEW. FUCKING. RED. DWARF. TONIGHT! Im gonna be smiling for months.
Awesome, Si, thanks for the heads up. Liatening to Bobby talk about new Dwarf whilst eating a fried egg chilli chutney sandwich – does it get any better than that?
Are the sandwhiches out already? ok. So just watching III now. If there is a star wars scroll tonight, who’s going to do the transcript honours?
Nine years later, hundreds of thousands of Red Dwarf believed an elaborate prank to make them think there were going to be three new Red Dwarf episodes. All the cast agreed to play along, even Norman Lovettt, who agreed to behave like a miserable get to make the fans look forward to the specials even more. Then at 9pm on Easter Friday, 10th April, 2009… Nothing happened.
And yes, I know it’s ten years (and five days) since RDVIII ended, but I was going with what I’d got…
i’ve got my larger in, the vindaloo is pre orderd to arrive at 8:45 video ready comfy spot found. i’m nervouse because i want this to be awsum. meantime heres a vid i took in berkely square wendsday featuring a interview with ganymede.tv,s ian. :) enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzZKRmGL0V4&feature=channel_page let hope the dwarf rocks and we get series ten
Lets hope that i won’t be saying ‘Dare I say it, the foreplay was more exciting than the actual event…’ Got people coming round to watch it with a massive amount of sweeties and drinkie pops :) First time i’ve been an adult and had new Dwarf to watch, oh so fun. I hope it’s not shite :D By the way if there IS a cliffhanger to tonights episode, and it ends and after a few seconds we get Iain Lee going ‘Wow, that was some pure cliff hanging action, can’t wait to see what EXCITTTTING adventures the crew of the Dwarf get up to tomorrow, ooooh its so exciting’, i will personally pay all of you go to Absolute Radio on Sunday at 10pm when he does his show and kick the sh*t out of him!
Just sorting out what to watch during lunch today. And I’ve just realised that what is due to be up next is… the terrible last ever episode of Brittas. I’m not superstitious, but… fuck that.
I should watch something Dwarfy. I never had time to do a Dwarf marathon – this is the only Dwarf I will have watched in the run-up to Back to Earth. So my choice is… Bodysnatcher. Appropriate for all kinds of reasons – not least that I consider it the most recent episode of Red Dwarf…
>So my choice is? Bodysnatcher. Appropriate for all kinds of reasons – not least that I consider it the most recent episode of Red Dwarf? Got that on the ready once I finish Series VIII.
Theres a lovely reminder in the corner of the screen on Dave – “Brand New Red Dwarf Tonight at 9pm”. Never thought I’d hear the words “brand new” and “Red Dwarf” in the same sentence again. I am so content. Ahhh. *cancels smug mode*
I’m annoyed, went to a pub as they had a welsh beer festival on, in the tasting notes they have “Holly Hop” as a beer but it’s not on yet :) Oh well I guess I can have it Monday for the repeats. To be fair I have had it before, but it would have really got me in the zone. Better see if I can find some Dutch lager instead, or some advocaat.
>Never thought I?d hear the words ?brand new? and ?Red Dwarf? in the same sentence again. Brand new episode of Hyperdrive followed by a repeat of Red Dwarf today on BBC 2.
I’m working…. fecking working. I’m going to set DVD recorder and VCR and avoid the internet until I’ve seen it. Buggeration problem is all my mates know how much I love Red Dwarf so I’m worried that come 9.31pm spoilery texts will wing my way. Anyone else working that can share my pain?
> Better see if I can find some Dutch lager instead, or some advocaat. I’m not a lager fan, so I’ll be celebrating with a bottle of chilled Sancerre.
Hey bountyhunter, I’m taking my mum out for a birthday meal (an edible Pot Noodle?), so I’ll be missing it too. But that’s what Sky Plus is for. Of course that’s not going stop the five billion texts hitting my phone, same as yours… pah.
I’m phoning in a curry while opening a can of lager ready for the start at 9… seems the most fitting way to bring in the first Red Dwarf in a decade no? Any bets the official site crashes come half 9, hopefully they’ve brought in a few extra peeps to handle it all. Also, the BtE logo wallpaper… is it not using the old logo just cleaned up? The lettering is the wrong colour to be the new logo. How odd.
Here’s hoping for the best! Good luck to all of you! I hope it’s an enjoyable experience for us. Looking forward to hearing the DwarfCasts after each episode. I couldn’t miss out on this event, such an exciting time in Dwarf history. Huzzah for the soon to be return of Red Dwarf!
> Also, the BtE logo wallpaper? is it not using the old logo just cleaned up? The lettering is the wrong colour to be the new logo. How odd. It’s neither the “old” logo, nor the “new” logo we’ve been seeing – it keeps the same outlines, but the rendering is completely different from both (well, the “old” logo was flat, but you get the point).
> The one on the wallpaper is the one you?ll be seeing on TV. So I’m presuming the one now used on the official site [black lettering] has already been retired? I guess it makes sense seeing black lettering on space backgrounds doesn’t work without glows, but I still quite like the black typeface look personally.
The one on the wallpaper is the one you?ll be seeing on TV. Hmm, the Black on White one is a registered trade mark, the White on Black isn’t.
40 minutes. Time to watch one last episode or some smeg ups maybe and then it’s RD time. I hope everyone is entertained. It’s only entertainment after all. Isnt entertainment wonderful. I’m off to warm up the projector and the pot noodle.
My bowels feel slightly looser than they should. No TV show should have this effect on me. Think my ladyfriend summed it up perfectly this morning. Dwarf was the first thing I mentioned when I woke up and she said “I suppose for sci-fi geeks, today is sort of like cup final day?”
> Fail that I noticed, or fail that someone at GNP sent the wrong version of the logo out? Neither. Fail because you’re just plain wrong. An R symbol means that it’s registered in the territory. A TM means it’s a trademark, but may not be registered. Doesn’t mean it ISN’T registered, though. Something with a TM may also be R. Something with an R is always also TM. While the RD logo – in all it forms, since the variations are small enough to still clearly be ‘the same logo’, so being white on black, black on white, made silver or whatever makes no difference – is Registered in the UK, USA and elsewhere, it’s not Registered everywhere. Because it’s very, very complicated to get it so, the process can take years. So when GNP make broadcast shows and put the logo on them, it has to have ‘TM’. In case the show (or DVD bonus content, which also took this into account) goes out somewhere beyond those borders. Something that happens a fair bit. It saves on an expensive re-edit, and the logo remains clearly trademarked. On print media and packaging, they are generally able to use the R since the licence for merchandise will apply to specific territories. Ditto on website content, since it’s sourcing from the UK. But for this wallpaper we wanted to match the broadcast show, so we used the logo that’s used on-screen. Literally. It’s the exact same one. Which is to say: you fail.
Which is to say: you fail. Had you been similarly enlightening the first time, it would have been a lot more helpful.
