Ian’s Newsround – Covers and Conventions News Posted by Ian Symes on 10th July 2025, 15:51 Whaaaaat? An Ian’s Newsround? When TOS still isn’t updating and there isn’t a new series about to air? Yes, we’re in the unusual situation whereby, during a period in Dwarf‘s history where it’s not unusual to go for months at a time without any news whatsoever, lots of little bitty things have happened in the last couple of weeks. Most of this has already been discussed by the community in our forum and comments sections, but it’s nevertheless nice to log it for the record all in one place. Let us begin with… I see a little silhouetto of some men As you can see, the cover image for the new Bluray boxset has been revealed, via the underwhelming medium of the Amazon listing being updated. My initial thoughts are that it’s an improvement on the previous abomination, but that’s a low bar to clear. I can kind of see what they’re going for; we’d been discussing how tricky it is to pick photographs that represent the whole lifespan of the show, and so doing something this stylised makes sense. Silhouettes of the main four characters is a good idea on paper, but other than the logo itself (and thank you, powers that be, for giving us a complete ‘W’ and ‘A’ this time) absolutely nothing about this screams “Red Dwarf” at first glance. Matt Groening once said that the greatest cartoon characters are identifiable purely from their silhouette, and Dwarf is fairly unusual among live action shows in each of the main characters having at least one physical attribute that’s both unique and iconic. If you want an abstract representation of those four characters, surely you go with teeth, H, dreadlocks and angular head? Wouldn’t close-ups be more attention grabbing than shadows in the distance? And what about Holly, or Kochanski, or Snacky? But anyway, something else of extreme interest is that the cover art promises “33 discs”, whereas we were only expecting a mere 32. We’d previously accounted for all of these discs with the assumption that The Bodysnatcher Collection would be included in full, so what could the thirty third disc be? Could Beat The Geek be joining the party after all? I don’t think so unfortunately, as the updated listing also includes a rundown of what’s included, and BTG isn’t there. Curiously though, “DVD Easter Eggs” is listed as a separate line, below all the series and specials. On the last boxset, all the eggs that were previously found on Disc One of each DVD set were neatly collated together as part of the Bodysnatcher bonus disc. If we’re getting the full Bodysnatcher Collection this time, are they making a special extra disc that’s just the old Easter Eggs? That would be nuts, but it’s what my money’s on. Put that in the Sin Bin And speaking of previously announced releases that now have covers, Sin Bin Island, Doug Naylor’s first children’s novel, now has a cover. Rather striking it is too, although it could do with some more eels. We’d previously had a glimpse at a proof copy, with its temporary cover in the uniform mid-90s Red Dwarf tie-in colours, and even from this it looked like a hefty tome. Amazon confirms it’s 320 pages, and they also include a very effusive testimony from Craig Charles. The illustrator is Nik Afia, previously a storyboard artist on Series XI and XII. It’s out on 11th September, which will make the anniversary easier to remember in years to come. What is this, a meeting of the official convention? The organisers of Em-Con have intriguingly announced a new venture, which is being billed as the first “official” Red Dwarf convention. While it’s technically correct that Dimension Jump wasn’t an official con in itself, merely an event put on by the official Fan Club, it’s a little bit of disingenuous claim. Still, Doug is apparently on board and is the one to have granted the official status, and as much as it pains me given my past involvement in Dimension Jump, TORDFC can’t really have any complaints at being usurped. They last put on an event in September 2021, last sent out a newsletter in May 2022, and last published a magazine in May 2019. Still, they’ve just this week returned to social media after an absence of nearly a year, and the chairman has posted elsewhere online that the club is currently in a “transitional period”. Yes, it’s transitioning from being an alive club to being a dead club. Anyway, as for the new convention, we’ll reserve judgement until we have more details on the line-up, the events and the pricing. Currently all we have to go on is a Facebook group and a website holding page, albeit one with stunning graphics that are right up there with Series VII. Chris Barrie has updated his website And finally, in somewhat related but all together more serious news, Chris has had to pull out of several events over the next few months, due to a “medical situation”. In a website update that was concerning to read, but not for the usual reasons, he said: I’m going to be brief, but over the last week I have been dealing with a medical situation which I am only just beginning to get my head around. In the light of this I shall be attending no more events over the summer and into the autumn. Updates on all this will be issued as and when. In the meantime I shall leave Scarborough on the itinerary for now and will look forward to returning there in the early winter. Obviously I shall miss not being with the posse in London this Sunday but I’m afraid that is the way it is. Enjoy! We sincerely hope that this isn’t as serious as it sounds, and that he’ll be right as rain once the situation has been dealt with. Hopefully with conventional medicine.
I shared this in the other thread already, but I still think you could easily make those silhouettes way more distinctive with just some minor tweaks. And yes, Rimmer’s H would be even better if you could make it read at that scale.
Nice write-up. When you put it all in one place like this, Red Dwarf seems almost alive. Regarding your Disc 33 theory, does Disc 4 of The Bodysnatcher Collection (the “Bodysnatcher Disc”) contain any content which isn’t also on the Bodysnatcher Disc Blu-ray from the Series I-VIII set? Because if not, surely they would just swap out the former disc for the latter, and that would allow them to include all of those Disc 1 Easter eggs while still keeping the disc count at 32.
Wait a minute, 15? I thought the only 15-rated episode was Marooned, and they sorted that out for the DVD by adding a couple seconds of Starbug b-roll at the end. Also how long has the 15 logo looked like that?
I think I’m correct in saying that the only things on Bodysnatcher that didn’t get ported over to the I-VIII release were the Remastered episodes themselves and the ‘What’s Different?’ text track.
Wait a minute, 15? The Red Dwarf XI Blu-Ray and the I-VIII Blu-Ray boxset are both rated 15, as is Just The Smegs.
You also lose the remastered episode commentaries that Ed Bye and Doug Naylor did. They only did 5 or 6 episodes but still.
I’m not in love with that box art; in fact, I think it’s a pretty bad representation of what the series is about. One can’t help but think perhaps putting a spaceship on the box might have been an idea, maybe, perhaps, actual Red Dwarf? But I’ll give them points for avoiding just doing a generic star field box, slapping the logo on it and calling it a day. Though, at the same time I’ll admit I thought the placeholder art looked quite nice in its simplicity and, dare I say it, a bit smarter than the finished piece. I can see me grabbing Doug’s book to support him but I doubt I’d get much out of it, not being a child and all that. Glad he’s doing something creative with his time though. I wish he had more of a presence on social media, it’s heartbreaking to see him post about this book and then get two likes. I know 99% of his followers will be for Dwarf but it’s got to be exasperating for him to have written hundreds of pages for barely a blip. To be honest, I’m not sure why there’s so much grousing from some corners over the convention. They’re called the “Official Red Dwarf Convention.” This is the first “Official Red Dwarf Convention,” not necessarilly “the first official Red Dwarf convention.” It’s been pretty surprising seeing the Fan Club chair get a strop on in the Facebook comments. What does the fan club think we should do instead? Just not have any Red Dwarf conventions? Based on available evidence I’d assume that’s exactly what they reckon is best. I do think it’s interesting how almost immediately after anyone G&T-adjacent (including Jo in that) stopped pitching in with DJs they just died. Yes, Covid didn’t help but I think we’re a bit past that point now. It’s one thing to say “I am involved in the very important group for cool people” as a badge of honour, it’s another entirely to actually fucking do anything and outward appearance suggests perhaps that’s a lesson some people in the fan club would do well to learn. From personal experience I’d say Em-con have shown they’re more than up to the job if you ask me, and a stylistically outdated website isn’t going to be enough to shift that stance. They’ve routinely had Dwarf cast members as guests year on year and they’re always among the most popular attendees. Given they get hundreds into one of Britain’s major arenas for two days every year with high profile guests from either side of the Atlantic, I reckon they can probably comfortably run a smaller venue with a more manageable guest list. Frankly, it’s nice to know a larger body is taking control. I’ll grant you it might mean they don’t prioritise getting Dave Benson Phillips but it ought to mean the accompanying Dwarfcast doesn’t have to begin with a laundry list of all the bits that were done in an amateurish manner, which we can’t say about every DJ G&T has covered. Would it have been “nice” if they’d asked the fan club? Yeah, I mean, sure, I guess. Did they have to? Er, no. They’ve already had almost every cast member in the past and this week’s events probably mean a couple of them will be looking to do less business with one convention organiser and picking up dates elsewhere. I’m reminded of a Smegazine Rack episode where you guys talked about the changing face of Dwarf fandom, with some names fading out and new ones rising. I get the impression that’s happened two or three times already. Ultimately, I think this convention and the new box set are markers Red Dwarf is probably entering a new (dare I say it, posthumous) phase of fandom with some people maybe about to learn that perhaps sometimes it’s healthiest to just move on. And if Red Dwarf fandom is going to survive at all it will almost certainly need to enter a new era as – if you’ll pardon my cynicism – the cast and executive producer get older, time marches on and the series continues not to be produced. Once the box set is released in October, these conventions – official or otherwise – might very well be all we get at this stage.
Wait a minute, 15? I thought the only 15-rated episode was Marooned, and they sorted that out for the DVD by adding a couple seconds of Starbug b-roll at the end. Also how long has the 15 logo looked like that? When making the HD version of Marooned, they decided for whatever reason (either broadcast authenticity or forgetfulness) not to include the extra Starbug shot that was used to get a re-rating for the DVD, and so the rating for Marooned reverted to its original VHS classification, meaning the whole Series I-VIII set had to be a 15. In order to fix this now, they would have to specifically re-author and resubmit the Series III disc with the DVD Starbug shot added back. But as Dave says, Series XI on Blu-ray/DVD was a 15 anyway, so getting Marooned classified as a 12 for a complete series set would be pointless. As for the BBFC symbols, they were redesigned in 2019 and started appearing on new releases in 2020. Not in time for The Promised Land though. (For reference, I believe the first Doctor Who home media release to use the new symbols was The Power of the Daleks Special Edition.)
I think I’m correct in saying that the only things on Bodysnatcher that didn’t get ported over to the I-VIII release were the Remastered episodes themselves and the ‘What’s Different?’ text track. OK, thanks, so either they decided to spread the 1 Blu-ray Bodysnatcher Disc content across 2 DVDs for no reason (unless 2 DVDs are cheaper to print and package than 1 Blu-ray?), or the extra disc is SOMETHING ELSE. OOOOH.
You also lose the remastered episode commentaries that Ed Bye and Doug Naylor did. They only did 5 or 6 episodes but still. Weirdly, the commentaries are in the I-VIII Blu-Ray set but audio-only, without the episodes themselves.
One can’t help but think perhaps putting a spaceship on the box might have been an idea, maybe, perhaps, actual Red Dwarf? I think the angular shape is meant to represent the ship, but only in quite an abstract way.
The real question is are they going to be updating the Dave era Blu-ray discs in any way? I’m mainly asking because BtE’s 2009 Blu-ray is 1080i with this shitty fucking variable framerate that would never happen even a few years later (and makes it very difficult to rip and encode for your personal media library). It’d be really nice to get it in proper 1080p without that early Blu-ray nonsense. Surely in 2025 you’d fail quality control standards to release a disc encoded that way. The hardware limitations that led to those choices are long, long gone. I’m mainly interested because I’m interested in replacing all my NTSC Dave era Blu-rays because the region conversion is absolutely horrible.
It would be kind of weird for a 2025 Blu-ray release to contain a disc where one of the main menu options is instructions for setting up an HD TV.
I think the cover reads more “Rimmer’s Badge” than an abstract Red Dwarf shape. Still… not a great cover sadly.
I had to zoom in to work out who was who. (And that’s after getting my drastically stronger glasses and being able to see everything more clearly than I’d remembered was even possible!) Dave, your tweaks are brilliant. Did TPL have bloopers / any other bonus features included in its physical release? Doug’s book, I wouldn’t be put off by the age range if the premise is of interest. I know not everyone’s like me and people have better-working brains and prefer writing aimed at a higher level, but if the premise and characters are compelling enough they could more than make up for the writing style not being one’s preference.
The bluray cover is kind of giving “they die at the end”. Series XIII spoilers??? As for the BBFC symbols, they were redesigned in 2019 and started appearing on new releases in 2020. Not in time for The Promised Land though. (For reference, I believe the first Doctor Who home media release to use the new symbols was The Power of the Daleks Special Edition.) Maybe I missed a newspaper campaign or something but I feel like everyone was oddly quiet about this. I’ve been steaming about it ever since the first time I glanced at my bluray shelf & it looked like all of classic Who & new Trek had been rated 18, along with the live-action Knuckles mini-series starring Idris Elba
I will probably buy the blu ray set either on release or shortly after as I’ve done a Dwarf marathon the last two Christmas periods and this is a novel way to get things going. I’ll get the Doug book too as I’ve just been going through Rob’s novels.
the live-action Knuckles mini-series starring Idris Elba AKA the show that helped me to discover the limits of my Sonic fandom.

According to the BBFC site it’s the “infrequent strong sex references” in Samsara. I imagine it’s this scene in particular.
Anyone know what this is about? I remember they previewed Twentica in Edinburgh and then did some small editing based from seeing it on the big screen. I don’t think this means we’re going to see the cast’s back projection car escape but would be nice.
Ooh. Thanks, forgot about that one. Thinking of future watching with the kids. Still, we’ve got DNA and Krytie TV to get through first… *Grits teeth in parent*
Did TPL have bloopers / any other bonus features included in its physical release? There’s a half-hour documentary, smeg ups and deleted scenes on the DVD and Bluray, all of which were already available on UKTV Play before the physical release, and still are AFAIK. I noticed they were still on there not that long ago. On the discs there’s also a featurette called Through An Audience’s Eyes, and something you need a DVD/BD drive to access but I don’t know what that turned out to be, come to think of it. The DVD has the customary reversible cover.
Is it just me or are those silhouettes all taken from the Series X poster? Cat’s outfit is particularly distinctive
and something you need a DVD/BD drive to access but I don’t know what that turned out to be, come to think of it. It’s a PDF of the front cover & emergency landing pages from the Starbug manual.
Is it going to have 2 slide out book boxes inside?Corresponding to the space the two red colours used on the spine. If they split it down the middle as listed by disc on zavvi, then 1-VII & Smegs will be book 1, the second would be VIII – through Bodysnatcher – the promised land. 8 folds of 2 discs. Wouldn’t surprise me if disc 33 is just slipped in a separate paper folder, in the middle. I really don’t like the logo red over the red background. Probably like it more than the previous art design.
What’s with the strip on the front at the bottom where it says Complete Series etc. that’s covering up the bottom of the ellipse. It’s a PDF of the front cover & emergency landing pages from the Starbug manual. Oh very cool. Thanks sleepey.
Did TPL have bloopers / any other bonus features included in its physical release? Yes and you should watch them. Norm gets some good lines in.
And yes, Rimmer’s H would be even better if you could make it read at that scale. I had the same issue when I worked on a Red Dwarf sprite sheet. I ultimately decided an oversized H is better than none. Since you added Kryten’s monitor in white you could try a white H, especially since you don’t have to worry about his other features.
What’s with the strip on the front at the bottom where it says Complete Series etc. that’s covering up the bottom of the ellipse. Good point. Don’t think it’s front opening. A flap where a set of differing art cards sit? Or a sticker covering where 32 discs now says 33 lol. It’s a weird design for sure:
Or is it a rip off strip and underneath it says Series 1 – The Promised Land + The Bodysnatcher Collection
I’m blanking on what it’s called but sometimes box sets come with a piece of paper wrapped around them, so they can put all the obligatory back-of-the-box stuff on that instead of on the case itself. Then when you get it home you can throw it away & there’s a cleaner design underneath. Looks like one of those.
It looks like it’s one of those cardboard/paper insert things that go around the outside of boxset inside the plastic wrap, with all the blurb printed on the back of it. For people who like to keep all the packaging, like me, they’re annoying as once you unwrap the set there’s nowhere to put them, so they usually end up folded up and stuffed inside somewhere.
the live-action Knuckles mini-series starring Idris Elba AKA the show that helped me to discover the limits of my Sonic fandom. It’s a series that seems to be entirely a shitpost given a mid-size budget. It’s absolute insanity and I can’t help but love it. Is it good? No, is it bollocks, it’s a generic comedy series with Knuckles the Echidna stapled to it (it should have been called Wade 3 & Knuckles, if we’re honest). But I love the stupidity of it. Though if we’re honest, when it comes to the Paramount series, only the third film actually really nails the Sonic franchise.
In terms of bringing the feel of the games to the movies, definitely. But all three of them have something to enjoy, and the second movie is definitely getting there with how much it brings in from the games.
Amusingly, somebody on Roobarb’s Forum has posted Dave’s improved version of the artwork as if it’s the real thing.
This is great. Yeah Dave, it’s a bit underwhelming. Must do better. They obviously missed the version with the Hollies, Snacky, Kochanski, Tony Hawks and Hitler.
Wait, did the UK releases of XI / XII also only have one disc? Because my American ones do, but this set lists there as being bonus feature discs for both of them.
Wait, did the UK releases of XI / XII also only have one disc? Because my American ones do, but this set lists there as being bonus feature discs for both of them. Nope, two discs
I’ve been trying to work out what the rough geometric shape is that they’re standing in…is it the ship? Kinda?
I’ve been trying to work out what the rough geometric shape is that they’re standing in…is it the ship? Kinda? I think the angular shape is meant to represent the ship, but only in quite an abstract way.
Nope, two discs So they crammed everything onto one disc and did a terrible job converting it to NTSC. Fantastic.
If we’re linking this up with Sonic (as we always should of course) then whilst that box art is a bit shite, it’s still not as big of a crime as what we got in EU regions for Sonic 3: Absolute state of it! 🤮
I always loved it. I was so pumped to finally get the game (already having &Knuckles, even) that I can’t see past the joy. I like game-accurate pink Knuckles too. THIS, on the other hand:
I was particularly going to mock the concave pupils bulging out of his eyeballs, then noticed they were always like that in the American ones. …Although I guess that is how eye lenses work. I preferred smooth Sonic, that’s how I always drew him.
Yeah I was always more influenced by the European art than the US art, for obvious reasons, and (even though Sonic 2 used the US style Sonic, although quite small on the cover), I didn’t even really start thinking about different models until this abomination.
I’d guess that’s early Carl “Jake Bullet” Flint (see, this is totally Red Dwarf relevant) who did most of the STC covers for its first few years. Or he just decided to copy its style weirdly closely.
The Megadrive cover for Sonic 1 is the greatest video game box art ever created It is seared into my memory from childhood. I used to draw and trace box art all the time and it might be my most-copied cover ever.
There was always something off about the Sonic 2 cover Robotnik to me, and I just realised it’s that it looks like he’s got a beard.
I actually don’t mind the new cover art, but it does remind me a bit of the PosterSpy contest entry I made in the run up to Series XII:
It’s also a bit reminiscent of that scene from Justice where they’re lined up like a… lineup. It’s even the right order if you flip it.
Looking at that image has made me realise that the relative heights are completely wrong on that Blu-Ray cover. Cat towers over everyone, Rimmer and Lister are the same height (but smaller than Cat even when they’re standing on tiptoes) and Kryten is tiny.
Now I’m always going to see that cover as them standing in some weird diagonal formation with Kryten lurking in the background.
They’re at the gates of silicon heaven after jump starting the 2nd big bang (jump starting the 2nd big bang?!) & Kryten is running on ahead to see if they’ll let the others in.
The Zavvi listing now has a disc breakdown: Discs 1-2: Series I (Episodes + Bonus DVD) Discs 3-4: Series II (Episodes + Bonus DVD) Discs 5-6: Series III (Episodes + Bonus DVD)Discs 7-8: Series IV (Episodes + Bonus DVD)Discs 9-10: Series V (Episodes + Bonus DVD)Discs 11-12: Series VI (Episodes + Bonus DVD)Discs 13-15: Series VII (Episodes + Bonus DVD)Disc 16: Just the Smegs DVDDiscs 17-19: Series VIII (Episodes + Bonus DVD)Discs 20-23: The Bodysnatcher DVD CollectionDiscs 24-25: Back to Earth (Episodes + Bonus Blu-ray)Discs 26-27: Series X (Episodes + Bonus Blu-ray)Discs 28-29: Series XI (Episodes + Bonus Blu-ray)Discs 30-31: Series XII (Episodes + Bonus Blu-ray)Disc 32: The Promised LandDisc 33: DVD Easter Eggs They really are making a disc that’s just a handful of Easter Eggs. This would be the perfect opportunity to provide value with some new extras, if such things as budget and time existed. Meanwhile, The First Three Million Years remains unreleased.
The First Three Million Years remains unreleased. This does seem like an omission. I wonder if there are rights issues attached to the lack of a home release.
Wow, so they really are authoring a whole new disc rather than just swapping out the DVD Bodysnatcher Disc for the Blu-ray one. Baffling. At least it’s something “new” for the G&T review… ? Obviously it would have been cool to see new extras (Universe Challenge, the US Pilots, complete Mobisodes, the aforementioned First Three Million Years, new commentaries?), but as I said before I would resent having to re-buy the entire show just for those.
Hearing this is the final cover (Apologies to real artists and the trees that had to be burned for this)
> Obviously it would have been cool to see new extras (Universe Challenge, the US Pilots, complete Mobisodes, the aforementioned First Three Million Years, new commentaries?), but as I said before I would resent having to re-buy the entire show just for those. I feel like if anything produced in the lifetime of the BBC era isn’t on disc, it’s almost certainly because it couldn’t be cleared. (I think we’ve heard before that because of the rights to the University Challenge format, Universe Challenge is a Dimensions in Time-style “this can never be used again” deal.)
Logged in for hot new Red Dwarf news and all I found were pictures of a fucking blue hedgehog. Can he at least me Photoshopped onto the end of Richard Meldrew’s foot for the classic slipper/hedgehog misunderstanding please? Ta.
Hearing this is the final cover (Apologies to real artists and the trees that had to be burned for this) Why are all of the cast either a) wanking off the other cast members and/or b) being wanked off by the other cast members?
Just replying to Unrumble here. This is funny, yes. But it’s going to bring on four page of wank-related gifs. So I’m going to kill it here stone dead.
Just replying to Unrumble here. This is funny, yes. But it’s going to bring on four page of wank-related gifs.
why are these gifs so big Don’t know if you’re using a computer, but they all look the same size to me on a phone.
Don’t know if you’re using a computer, but they all look the same size to me on a phone. Chrome on PC here
Those screenies do a really poor job of showcasing just how ginormous those gifs really are, they take up the whole height of the screen
Respectfully, what the fuck does that mean? Sorry, I’m old enough that I assume Father Ted is just written into everyone’s DNA. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MMiKyfd6hA0
Chrome on PC here I’ve never been a techie person and always catch on slowly to these things through apathy, but switching from Chrome has improved my quality of life.
Speaking of web browser issues, I’ll post this here because I can’t start a new forum thread about it… Today, I’m having an issue with the site, in both Chrome and Firefox on Android, in both mobile and desktop site modes. I’ve only tried it on my phone so far, haven’t checked on PC yet. When logged in, the bottom of every page appears cut off, and the hamburger menu doesn’t work. Also, the forum only shows the first three-and-a-bit topics. When logged out, the end of a page looks OK: But when logged in, it only goes this far: And how the forum appears in desktop mode: Anyone else getting this?
Yeah, the frontpage doesn’t load the right-hand menu with the forum, search etc. for me, and on mobile I’m getting ‘Recent comments and forum threads’ at the menu at the top, which doesn’t work when I tap it.
Interesting, we’ve updating the server today so it might be related, but I can’t see a problem. Have you tried logging out and back in?
Yup. Happens on both my phone and laptop. It was working again earlier but is back to not working again now.
Same problem here – burger menu not loading and forum cuts out after a few topics. Running chrome on android.
Busted for me, Firefox on PC Logging myself out seemed to sort it all out But logging back in put it back in the bin
I hope the cover artists are being well paid for being shouted at by Doug to just do what the fan on G&T did
Oh wow, yeah, that sure doesn’t seem like a coincidence! Obviously they’ve tweaked it further compared to Dave’s version, but mostly the tweaks are just fully realising the same ideas or correcting errors. Giving Lister the bazookoid is a cool extra idea though. I am tickled by the prospect of Doug and/or other GNP folks reading these comment sections and having to sift through the inevitable derailments into Sonic the Hedgehog and wanking to check if there’s any more actual useful feedback.
Yeah if that is a deliberate copy that leaves a bit of a nasty taste in the mouth. Hopefully it’s a coincidence and Dave’s design choices are just in sync with whoever was working on the cover.
Oh I’m genuinely not that bothered if it means we get a better cover in the end. Maybe I can wangle a free copy out of it or something.
You can see from Technopeasant’s gif that they even corrected the height discrepancy that was talked about upthread.
Surely that’s a guitar. You’ve got to hope it’s one of the two, because the third possibility is even worse.
Oh I’m genuinely not that bothered if it means we get a better cover in the end. Maybe I can wangle a free copy out of it or something. That’s the spirit! Throwing in of those Starbug models you fancied as well would seem adequate.
That’s the spirit! Throwing in of those Starbug models you fancied as well would seem adequate. A free copy of the Blu-Ray set, an original Starbug model and the scripts to the new specials. That’s all I’m asking.
It’s got to be a bazookoid. The neck of Lister’s guitar isn’t shaped like that, you would be able to see the tuning pegs. Also there is a promotional image where Lister is holding a bazookoid in a very similar way (the main Series XI one), while the promo images I can find where Lister is holding his guitar have him holding it differently.
There’s always a thing. Whether it’s the wrong episode titles, gets burned in a fire or is Vindalunar. It’s one of the show’s best traditions.
Was looking at pre-ordering Doug’s book and the delivery estimate is September 27th. So, y’know, after everyone has already read it.
Nobody young enough to be on social media is aware of Doug Naylor. Given it’s a children’s book that bodes poorly.
So i was sort of right i think with the split of series across two inner boxes. The bodysnatcher stuff comes as it should before Back to earth. And it does look like the easter egg disc is then in it’s own little wallet. Is that a booklet on the right? All the extras listed in it?
Argh god, it would be sooooo much neater if they swapped Just The Smegs and Series VIII. Apart from anything else, JTS has the Series VIII Smeg Ups on it.
Argh god, it would be sooooo much neater if they swapped Just The Smegs and Series VIII. Apart from anything else, JTS has the Series VIII Smeg Ups on it. Yes. But JTS is 1 disc in a tray at the end of book box 1. And series VIII is 2 dics isnt it a bluray for the series and a dvd for the extras 2 trays of book box 2 ?. 16 discs in each box.
So Doug says The AA adverts are on the new blu ray. Must be on that Easter egg disc? I’m now head cannon calling those + the promised land = XIII collectively! I wonder is the AA radio ads are on it too.
The Facebook page for the Official Convention got an update today (Thursday). The con is taking place next year, July 18–19, in Nottingham. “For updates, guest announcements, and ticket info, hit up reddwarfofficial.com OFFICIALLY LAUNCHES TOMORROW AT 7PM ALONG WITH TICKET SALES!”
Oh now come on. That feels deliberately misleading. Official convention, sure ok you have the blessing of Doug/GNP. But calling your website Red Dwarf Official without qualifying that it is the convention is disingenuous. It’s not as though you pay for URLs by the letter. Call it reddwarfofficialcom or something if you must. Do they think they’re competing with the Unofficial Red Dwarf website that was spun off by the worst of humanity when the forums closed?

Shakespeare street. So not in a linked hotel like previous fan club conventions did, it’s a three floor venue space, i used to drink there decades ago when it was my student bar i think. Don’t know how rebuit it is since those days. I am talking about when Paul Mcgan was Dr who!! / Still provisionally booked the crown plaza from Friday and will check at the website later for costs for the actual sat/sun event.
