Quite apart from it being Tom Cruise (and Branagh – god help us!), and I the only person who can’t quite take this movie seriously? http://valkyrie-trailer.blogspot.com/ Creator Topic Viewing 11 replies - 1 through 11 (of 11 total) Author Replies November 17, 2008 at 9:55 pm #86928 TheLeenParticipant … ugh. November 18, 2008 at 3:11 am #86929 Ben PaddonParticipant Tom Cruise was born for one purpose and one purpose alone – to play the dickhole Manager in Tropic Thunder. After this, he becomes redundant. November 18, 2008 at 6:01 am #86930 Pete Part ThreeParticipant I dunno; I liked him in Magnolia. November 18, 2008 at 11:45 am #86935 PhilParticipant Rain Man, bitchezzz November 18, 2008 at 11:54 am #86937 AndrewParticipant The only problem I have taking it seriously is that the assassination plot, as I first learnt about it, was definitely foiled by Dave Lister nicking Hitler’s briefcase. Aside from that: It’s Bryan Singer back with the writer of The Usual Suspects telling a fascinating true story. The cast’s certainly eclectic (Eddie Izzard!), but I’m with Whedon when it comes to using good comedy actors to play drama. And Cruise, mentalist or not, has been a wonderful actor (Magnolia, Rain Man, The Color of Money, Collateral) and movie star (Top Gun, Risky Business, Cocktail, A Few Good Men) in his time. I would LOVE to see that version. Lots of serious dialogue, pretentious Hollywood blather of ‘this isn’t the Reich we wish to serve’ etc, etc…and ‘it only takes a few good men to stand true’ then right at the end, a mysterious door opens in the air and a cherub faced scouser jumps out, beats up Hitler and nicks the briefcase. Imagine how many smegged off people there’d be. Lovely. Cruise is one of those actors I seem to like to dislike. I agree though. I particularly enjoyed Minority Report. No matter how good/bad the movie is, I’m always going to be hearing “banana and crisps …?” December 13, 2008 at 3:44 am #87443 AndrewParticipant Okay, now I’ve found out that David Bamber is playing Hitler – NOW I have trouble taking it seriously. “Miss Tripley, have Mr Cruise teach an art class – that’ll teach him to put a bomb in my briefcase.” December 16, 2008 at 2:58 pm #87552 Tanya JonesParticipant Ah, we watched the first ep of Chalk last night, and that news has made me laugh as well! December 16, 2008 at 3:13 pm #87553 PhilParticipant This is one of those rare movies that I want to see and want to avoid at the same time.
