    It’s me, Blossom!

I’m currently watching Red Dwarf for the first time.

At the moment, I’m just about to watch Rimmerworld.

In this topic, I’ll be posting my thoughts on every episode after I’ve watched it.

I’ll also intersperse previous episodes into my watchthrough so you can get my opinions on those!

It is conventionally around this point where the forum becomes more interested in people’s reactions, if you’re aware of the behind the scenes changes after Series VI. Stay spoiler free if you can, of course.

All I really know is Grant or Naylor leaves, and no one really likes Series VIII

At least you get to watch the Smeg Ups and Smeg Outs in the meantime.

    Hello again.

I haven’t been on here in quite a while, and I have to admit, I haven’t finished Tikka to Ride.

I managed the recap and then I just had to click off.

I don’t know how to explain it, but it’s just not right.

So I haven’t watched any Red Dwarf in over a month.

Much too busy with Doctor Who stuff

I hit that wall when we did the big rewatch for the 35th anniversary. It took me about three sessions over a few days to force myself through the episode. It’s a tough barrier, but it got easier as my standards were steadily lowered.

was it like watching someone else have sex with your wife?

That’s certainly one way of phrasing it

The single camera and lack of live audience in Series VII (and Back to Earth) feels super-off, and I really like Tikka to Ride and most of VII, but even I feel that off-ness on rewatches. BtE just about gets away with it because it’s a reunion special but VII can never fully shake that off feeling even at its high points, which is why they rightly decided to go back to a live audience for VIII and X onward. (Not sure what there was for the live audience to laugh at for Series VIII exactly but partial credit where it’s due.)

    CUCKER TO RIDE

    POKE ME A WIFER

    OUROBSMISSUS

    FUCT SPOUS

    SCREW

    BEHOLD A BLOKE

    INFIDELIDEME

    ANOTHERMANARCHY

This is a work of pathetic wordplay. Any resemblance to persons either living or deceased is purely coincidental.

Last night I rewatched The End. It’s a good introduction to the series, I’ll definitely be continuing. (I kind of want to write some fic set before the events of this episode, but I don’t know if we get to see some of that later on in the show)

I’d love a novel set before the events of episode 1…maybe one set on Titan or something.

After you’ve watched Balance of Power and Stasis Leak, you’ve pretty much seen all of the additional pre-accident Red Dwarf bits. There are eventually some more, but for fanfic purposes I don’t remember them containing any major extra information.

You’d probably get a better overall sense of the pre-radiation leak setting from reading Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers (and the upcoming Titan, presumably), even though it technically isn’t canon to the TV series.

even though it technically isn’t canon to the TV series.

Except in the places it gets retconned into TV canon.

Or in the case of the later one, when the show gets retconned into the novels

Along with all the descriptions of their past antics here and there that I could always visualise to an extent.
