Over the winter of 2015/16 when we made series 11 and 12, some common sense momentum seemed to be building, but, since then, the project seems to have juddered to a halt. In the desert of silence I do encounter the occasional droplet of positivity but that’s it. If the droplet ever becomes a trickle, I shall of course leap to the keyboard and let you know. The Brittas position is not dissimilar. Since the promising newspaper articles of a couple of years ago and the enthusiasm of the Reunion last year, it all seems to have gone all quiet on the Whitbury front. All I can do is continue to express my desire to recreate the chainsaw voiced ogre and that is something I shall certainly keep doing.” Thanks to Chris Barrie Fans for making this known on Twitter. January 22, 2024 at 10:30 pm #292197 Stephen AbootmanParticipant Probably just making room for a new anniversary relevant update next month January 22, 2024 at 10:55 pm #292198 Frank SmeghammerParticipant It’s a shame really because when Chris updates his website this thread is really good value for a laugh. The studio audience finds this all hilarious, and perfectly fitting for an episode of Red Dwarf. Robert Llewellyn describes it as “some of the best Red Dwarf ever made”, and Chris Barrie declares it a “True return to form”. The media agrees when it makes it to air. Then everyone revises their opinions and declares it “a pile of shite” about 18 months later. NINEELEVENTICA Misjudged attempt to appeal to American viewers. March 13, 2024 at 9:31 pm #293217 Stephen AbootmanParticipant An update, with huge news for fans of a franchise very popular in 1993! That’s right, Simon the Sorcerer. March 13, 2024 at 10:24 pm #293220 JenuallParticipant Ah yes, a prequel – the perfect situation to make use of the vocal talents of someone now 30 years older… March 14, 2024 at 1:15 am #293222 WarbodogParticipant I loved Simon the Sorcerer, but couldn’t stand the voice version and turned it off, he sounded bored and detached. Plus I think Simon’s supposed to be a teenager even in the original. March 14, 2024 at 2:32 am #293223 MoonlightParticipant I loved Simon the Sorcerer, but couldn’t stand the voice version and turned it off, he sounded bored and detached. As someone who works with actors and considering this was a 90s video game, I can 100% guarantee you that he was given shit direction. Hell, more likely than not he wouldn’t have even had any context for any of the lines he was reading. Just going down a big list of dialogue in alphabetical order or something. March 14, 2024 at 8:35 pm #293256 International DebrisParticipant Ah yes, a prequel – the perfect situation to make use of the vocal talents of someone now 30 years older… This was first in line to become Big Finish Productions’s motto until someone came up with “for the love of stories”. March 14, 2024 at 9:40 pm #293259 MoonlightParticipant I think they should cast Philip Labey. March 14, 2024 at 9:43 pm #293261 Captain BollocksParticipant I still remember the comic con Q&A he did where he was asked if he still had any connection to video games, and he said (paraphrasing) that he had no interest in them and that he wished people would stop wasting their lives on them and spend more time doing things of value instead (such as collecting classic cars I guess, because presumably if it’s his hobby then it isn’t a waste of time?) Still, take the money, eh Chris? March 14, 2024 at 9:51 pm #293262 MoonlightParticipant That is a boomer-ass take if I ever heard one. As if their generation didn’t grow up watching television. March 14, 2024 at 10:41 pm #293263 JenuallParticipant It’s probably the bloody woke mind virus that’s driven us all to waste our lives on videogames! Either that or it was Corbyn. Still, take the money, eh Chris? Part of me wants to ask how long ago that was, because I always hope that if it was long enough ago someone may have changed their views. But considering the views we’ve heard from him in the past few years, I’m not confident that would be relevant in this case anyway.
