GUYS, YOU GOTTA KNOW YOUR LINES… YOU HAVE GOT TO KNOW YOUR LINES. February 15, 2009 at 8:37 am #91617 peas_and_cornParticipant Why is there a vampire in Red Dward? February 15, 2009 at 8:51 am #91620 Tyrell CorporationParticipant Why are the two black people in Red Dwarf the lazy and vain characters? Why does that weedy looking bloke have an ‘H’ on his head? Holly? A fucking rip off of HAL… This looks like shit, what time is Thirtysomething on? February 15, 2009 at 8:53 am #91622 peas_and_cornParticipant >Why does that weedy looking bloke have an ?H? on his head? It’s a tattoo DUH February 15, 2009 at 9:00 am #91623 Tyrell CorporationParticipant VERY METAL. February 15, 2009 at 10:16 am #91624 JamesTCParticipant I guess I will watch ‘The End’, I did the same for Doctor Who last november for its 45th and watched ‘An Unearthly Child’. February 15, 2009 at 12:56 pm #91637 Tyrell CorporationParticipant It’s been nearly 70 years since Britain declared war on Germany, I think I’ll rush to the east and blitzkrieg France. February 15, 2009 at 2:39 pm #91643 JamesParticipant How many people here were actually born before 1988? February 15, 2009 at 2:45 pm #91645 PhilParticipant I’d imagine an awful lot of us. Why do you ask? February 15, 2009 at 2:49 pm #91647 JamesParticipant No reason really, just wondering how many saw it for the first time and how, day one, a repeat, on video, on DVD. How it captures people over 21 years. February 15, 2009 at 3:32 pm #91649 Tyrell CorporationParticipant By their balls and never lets go, judging by our sanity. February 15, 2009 at 4:45 pm #91651 siParticipant Twenty One years. Egad, I was only nine. February 15, 2009 at 8:30 pm #91667 CarlitoParticipant I watched V-VIII on their first runs. I was 5 yrs old when series 1 was broadcast so forgive me for not being there from ‘day one’. I’m sure I would have appreciated the show in time for series IV, though, had I known about it. As for how I’m going to be celebrating the 20th Anniversary… I am currently having all of my memories of Red Dwarf erased by Dr. Mierzwiak of Lacuna Inc. and tonight I begin watching the show for the very first time all over again. Lucky me. February 15, 2009 at 8:31 pm #91668 CarlitoParticipant What the fuck is “Red Dwarf” then? February 15, 2009 at 8:53 pm #91669 ChrisMParticipant I liked that Holly gag. ;) Go on say it. “Which Holly gag?” “Whose Holly?” I sometimes wish I could do that. It’d be great to enjoy stuff for the first time again. I watched Alien again recently*, and whilst it remains a great film, the first part kinda dragged for me. I can imagine it really working when you’re watching it for the first time though. Before you know what shape the threat will come from and where. That and I know when all the scary bits are going to happen, and so the shock factor is far less. (It still made me jump a bit, in places though. Especially Jones the cat.) *It was the theatrical cut. I plan on watching the Director’s Cut shortly, so I can compare. I’ve seen both before, but I’m investigating whether the cut bits really ruin the tone of the cut, something I never really noticed. February 15, 2009 at 9:21 pm #91671 CarlitoParticipant But who IS Holly? February 15, 2009 at 9:55 pm #91677 PhilParticipant Not Norm. Norm will never be Holly again. He was told in an email that due to budget reasons he will not be asked to play Holly. He will no longer have anything to do with Red Dwarf as he can’t work with these people. He is going to write an autobiography. If the lawyers don’t stop him he is going to tell us all about his experiences with Red Dwarf and GNP. February 15, 2009 at 10:20 pm #91678 Tyrell CorporationParticipant Partly budget reasons, partly Norman moaning about every planned Red Dwarf project past series VIII. It makes me wonder how much lucre he wanted to take on the Holly role again. I’m sure Hattie Hayridge would have jumped at the chance and would have did it for her bus fare home. He’s a miserable sod and I have no sympathy for him. February 16, 2009 at 2:45 am #91694 CarlitoParticipant To celebrate the 20th anniversary, I watched The End: The Original Assembly, Future Echoes and Balance of Power. Stopped to watch WWE No Way Out live on Sky. May watch the last three from series I later. February 16, 2009 at 2:57 am #91696 ChrisMParticipant Off-topic, but there was a Red Dwarf reference in Being Human this week! One guy (the widower of the ghost) talking about porn said something along the lines “I kept it in my Red Dwarf box-set. There was no way the missus was going anywhere near that!” Ha! I’m not entirely sure if that’s an insult or not, I.e. portraying it as something the missus doesn’t like… but then he likes it or he wouldn’t have it. (And his current missus is portrayed as a bit shallow anyway (not the ghost.)) It was nice to have the reference. Being Human is shaping up to be a decent series by the way. Amusing, good stories, and downright disturbing in places and a little bit scary. Different in some ways to the pilot, but in a good way (much as I liked the pilot too.) February 16, 2009 at 10:25 am #91713 thomasaevansParticipant http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/cult/a146654/red-dwarf-where-have-the-smegheads-been.html February 16, 2009 at 1:14 pm #91717 Tyrell CorporationParticipant Being Human is nonsense. It’s like a really bad children’s drama that was rewritten to include some macabre sexual references and been given a late night slot. Utter, utter drivel. February 16, 2009 at 4:32 pm #91749 Jonathan CappsKeymaster > It?s like a really bad children?s drama that was rewritten to include some macabre sexual references and been given a late night slot. Oh dear, another Torchwood. February 16, 2009 at 4:34 pm #91750 Tyrell CorporationParticipant At least Torchwood has guns ‘n ‘splosions ‘n shit like that. February 16, 2009 at 6:07 pm #91760 AnonymousInactive “Twenty One years. Egad, I was only nine.” I wish I was… I’m gonna drink some sake and watch the Japanese version. February 16, 2009 at 10:01 pm #91813 ChrisMParticipant >It?s like a really bad children?s drama that was rewritten to include some macabre sexual references and been given a late night slot. The vampire snuff video was pretty freaky, and I think they went too far there… It was bloody disturbing. However it’s not JUST about that. There is plenty of twisty plots and 3-dimensional characterization in there (albeit they play up the shock value a bit, but then it is horror.) It’s certainly not suitable for children, even removing the sexual stuff. And it’s not like Torchwood. Much. February 17, 2009 at 11:54 pm #91932 JoParticipant > At least Torchwood has guns ?n ?splosions ?n shit like that. Weevils and bollocks and shit… February 18, 2009 at 3:13 am #91964 Ben PaddonParticipant Torchwood series one mostly just has shit in it, apart from some good episodes in the middle. February 18, 2009 at 12:24 pm #92001 siParticipant As much as I like Torchwood, I don’t really know why. The Cyberwoman episode was terrible, and the Fight-Club-With-Weevils episode was downright awful.
