That’s like a baby’s toy!” But seriously, if that actually exists, that’s quite insane how clever that is. June 2, 2009 at 12:37 pm #99480 NoFroParticipant I just read about this but hadn’t seen the video. If it really works as well as that then the Wii just got destroyed. June 2, 2009 at 1:11 pm #99483 John HoareParticipant If it really works as well as that then the Wii just got destroyed. Bear in mind it isn’t even due to be released until late 2010! And who knows what Nintendo have up their sleeve in the meantime? Besides which, technology is only half the equation – the games are the other half. And you’re not tearing me away from a lot of Nintendo’s franchises in a hurry… June 2, 2009 at 1:41 pm #99486 Danny StephensonKeymaster “Nintendo have announced what they claim to be ‘the next level of gaming’ ‘Better Than Life’ is part of the new breed of ‘alternative lifestyle’ computer games, such as the Sims and SecondLife, dubbed a ‘Total Immersion Videogame’ (or TIV for short), allows the user (or users in a multiplayer setting) to live out their fantasies via a special headset which detects the innermost desire of the user and allows to feel as if they are “really there”, using what the developers call the ‘Senso-Lock feedback’ system. However, psychologists fear that the game could make people dependent on the game depending on their mental health on entering and not allowing people to leave the game as the controls or the game are all made using the mind. Dennis McBean, Creator and Designer of ‘Better Than Life’ assures the psychologists by stating “The user only has to want to leave the game, and a door will open. all they have to do is walk through it. Simple as that” While the game is still in it’s developmental stage, McBean is hoping for a 2010 release of the game, coinciding with the release of the Xbox360’s ‘Project Natal'” June 2, 2009 at 2:12 pm #99488 JamesTCParticipant Arn’t Sony making a virtual reality console? This motion thing looks ok but really the only games I play are shooters like Crackdown and Halo, maybe the odd racing game, it really depends on the price if I could justify buying one. G&T, Andrew. June 2, 2009 at 2:58 pm #99492 Tanya JonesParticipant “Oh crap! No, not you!” June 3, 2009 at 6:54 am #99564 Ben PaddonParticipant I do apologise, I wasn’t paying attention. See you later! June 3, 2009 at 6:59 am #99565 peas_and_cornParticipant The question I have is- why release it for the 360? It’s been around for a few years and as such all of its catalogue will not support this peripheral- only a certain number of games that are released afterwards (and it won’t be all, in the same way that not all wii games support the crazy gyroscope stuff). Why not save this new technology for the next console so that a library of games can be built up from the beginning? June 3, 2009 at 9:37 am #99571 AndrewParticipant Because it’s much harder to build a new market from scratch than to build on an established one. People already have 360s in their homes. What’s the benefit of ‘saving’ this for a hypothetical next generation when a) they’ve developed the tech and will want to recoup costs, and b) building a library of 360 Natal games is the same as building a library of Natal Console games anyway. A library of titles still gets built from the beginning – this being the beginning – but it’s done in a safer commercial way. Hardly surprising given how console makers struggle to turn profit these days. June 3, 2009 at 3:39 pm #99580 pfmParticipant The funniest thing about this video is how it misses out all the million times someone makes a movement and it doesn’t pick it up. June 3, 2009 at 4:02 pm #99582 Smeg4BrainsParticipant I knew I should have finished watching the E3 Microsoft conference. June 3, 2009 at 4:21 pm #99583 NoFroParticipant To be honest, I found the trailer for “The Beatles: Rock Band” far more exciting than either of those two motion capture products. The look of it (the fact that the stages and members change to reflect various points and songs in their career) twinned with the fact that it’s pretty much guaranteed to deliver what it promises makes it more exciting for me. June 3, 2009 at 4:44 pm #99584 Pete Part ThreeParticipant Mario Galaxy 2 will keep me off the streets. June 3, 2009 at 5:12 pm #99585 JamesTCParticipant Crackdown 2 was the best gaming announcment ever. Loved as “Here Comes the Sun” came on and it went into what can only be described as a voyage to Trip-Out City. BUT, I was referring to the gameplay trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGBF6AHaaS0 June 3, 2009 at 10:08 pm #99595 Ben PaddonParticipant I was at E3 yesterday. Beatles Rock Band, New Super Mario Bros Wii and Arkham Asylum were definitely the highlights. June 3, 2009 at 10:23 pm #99597 hummingbirdParticipant tbh I can’t see the appeal of these kind of games when most of the songs are straightforward enough to play on a real guitar. I mean, if this guy can play them http://www.metacafe.com/watch/455489/amazing_6_year_old_guitarist/ June 3, 2009 at 10:32 pm #99598 Ben PaddonParticipant tbh I can’t see the appeal of Doom when most of that sort of demon are straightforward enough to kill with a real shotgun. tbh I can’t see the appeal of EA’s Fifa games when you can go play football outside with a real football. tbh I can’t see the appeal of Grand Theft Auto when you can go steal real cars and kill real prostitutes to get your money back. tbh I can’t see the appeal of City Of Heroes when you can get a real superhero costume and go and fight real crime. I could do this all day but tbh I can’t see the appeal when I could go argue the point with real people. Demons are fictional, you can’t kill something fictional with a real shotgun. >tbh I can?t see the appeal of Grand Theft Auto when you can go steal real cars and kill real prostitutes to get your money back. I don’t think you should talk about your private life on here. I don’t like the Guitar Hero games but I can see the appeal, I just prefer to listen to music instead, much less effort. June 4, 2009 at 5:14 am #99605 peas_and_cornParticipant I play a real guitar, and as such have difficulty playing guitar hero. QFWTF June 4, 2009 at 5:51 am #99607 DaveParticipant tbh I can?t see the appeal of Tetris when you can really control gravity and abolish completed lines with telekinesis and the power of your mind. tbh I can?t see the appeal of Monkey Island when you can amuse yourself with a real rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle. tbh I can?t see the appeal of http://www.ganymede.tv/forum/2009/06/maybe-theyll-release-it-as-a-tiv when you can just watch real Red Dwarf on a real television screen. June 4, 2009 at 7:54 am #99609 NoFroParticipant I play guitar myself but can definitely still enjoy Guitar Hero/Rock Band, despite not even being a massive gamer nowadays. It’s great fun to play with friends and you don’t have to be able to play an instrument which means, just like any game, anyone can join in. Unfortunately, I’m rubbish at them but I still enjoy playing them or watching other people have a go.
