My thread has a better title so, in a cosmic sense, I was first.

Except that’s in reference to a TEXT adventure…

They moved so fast. I’m playing Final Fantasy VII again and some of the music reminded me of ye olde graphic adventure games that I then realised were only from about 2 years earlier, so basically the same time.

I didn’t play any until Monkey Island 1 in 1996, with text rather than icons, but anything older seemed unplayably antiquated to me.

I never played any of the Lucasarts or Sierra games as a kid, but was instead introduced to the genre by Yahtzee’s freeware Rob Blanc games off DOSGames.com.

When I was a kid I played through the space Quest games, king’s quest 4, and I really love this mixed up fairy tales game with this Dragon Called Bookwyrm, and a scary hairy (pun intended) villain called Bookend. Nice and short.

In April 1998 when I got into Adventure Creator (which was later retitled Adventure Game Studio, or AGS) I really loved demo quest, which used the photograph of some town in Britain with a few brick buildings in the background, & a white van in the background that was really really really really really really realistic at the time, and I later loved other AGS made games, including this Star Trek the Next Generation parody where picard gets drunk, loses a poker game and all to some Pirates, and they have to hand over there clothes & the Enterprise D and data and then picard goes “Worf, Data, run for it!!!!! I’ll take care of these two…” then they escape, then when the demo ended, the ship was damaged in orbit around some jungle planet, and data went missing.

too bad the guy who made that game never finished it. it was really funny!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤩

I posted that Red Dwarf demo made in AGS in the other thread.
