Now i’ve wrote this topic starter I can’t think of an example. Bollocks Anyways… Discuss. March 24, 2026 at 6:51 pm #317693 RudolphParticipant March 27, 2026 at 10:10 am #317890 Ian SymesKeymaster Just remembered that as a ten-year-old unfamiliar with The King and I, I had never heard of Yul Brynner, and thought that Rimmer had never been mistaken for “urine-a”. March 28, 2026 at 12:56 am #317919 TechnopeasantParticipant More people remember him from Westworld these days surely? March 28, 2026 at 1:27 am #317920 MoonlightParticipant I watched The Ten Commandments last month. Am I allowed to remember him from that? I still want to say I know him from Westworld and I’m not sure I’ve seen that in 15 years. March 28, 2026 at 6:44 pm #317943 Frank LewisParticipant I misheard Danny in White Hole; – thought he’d been referring to Rimmer & Kryten as Weirdly Named Characters from obscure cartoons. March 28, 2026 at 7:00 pm #317946 WarbodogParticipant I misheard Danny in White Hole; – thought he’d been referring to Rimmer & Kryten as Weirdly Named Characters from obscure cartoons. I only knew Laurel and Hardy as an unremarkable cartoon when I was a kid. It probably wasn’t until I saw Meltdown or read about it in the Programme Guide that I learned they were more significant figures. Similar with the Pink Panther and probably more things I didn’t know were really other things. March 28, 2026 at 8:34 pm #317950 TechnopeasantParticipant Similar with the Pink Panther and probably more things I didn’t know were really other things. And probally still more you don’t know yet. March 28, 2026 at 9:26 pm #317952 Ben SaundersParticipant I love Oliver & Hardy as a kid for some reason, probably because my parents did. I went to the museum and had several DVDs. March 28, 2026 at 11:12 pm #317956 Flap JackParticipant I love Oliver & Hardy as a kid for some reason, probably because my parents did. I went to the museum and had several DVDs. On first pass I read these two sentences as completely unrelated to each other. March 28, 2026 at 11:16 pm #317958 TechnopeasantParticipant A true cinephile in possesion of literally several DVDs. March 29, 2026 at 4:36 am #317966 International DebrisParticipant I, too, have visited a museum. March 29, 2026 at 5:00 am #317969 MoonlightParticipant I once kissed a girl under the space shuttle at the National Air and Space Museum, and yet NASA ignores my applications. March 29, 2026 at 7:36 am #317974 DaveParticipant I love Oliver & Hardy as a kid for some reason They weren’t as good as Stan & Laurel. March 29, 2026 at 7:37 am #317975 DaveParticipant I once kissed a girl under the space shuttle I’ve never heard it called that before. March 29, 2026 at 10:05 pm #317991 clemParticipant I love Oliver & Hardy as a kid for some reason Could it have been because they’re very funny? March 29, 2026 at 10:29 pm #317993 RudolphParticipant When Lister is talking about his vibrator-using teacher in Queeg, I thought he was saying they went on a camping trip to ‘The Ganymede’ rather than ‘Deganwy’. March 30, 2026 at 5:14 am #317999 TechnopeasantParticipant April 21, 2026 at 7:32 am #318950 WarbodogParticipant The trains discussion reminded me that I used to think Lister was randomly putting on some kind of accent and saying Rimmer would be in charge of making sure the ship’s rail system ran on time (having seen this after reading the novel), as if that was really any more of a tedious chore than his current duties. Lister saying “latrines” in his normal accent clicked eventually. May 12, 2026 at 2:22 pm #320193 gerrydelaselParticipant This whole time I thought he said “thermosanitroglycerine”, like a futuristic version of the chemical. Only just spotted the correct line in the smegadrive! May 12, 2026 at 6:37 pm #320205 PodeyParticipant Journeying through the Smega-Drive’s ‘random’ mode last night alerted me to the fact I never correctly heard the “reproductive system, baby” line in Tongue Tied. I always thought it was “think we’ve lost the system, baby”, but I’ve no idea what I thought that actually meant. May 12, 2026 at 6:56 pm #320210 Flap JackParticipant That’s a shame, because when I first saw Parallel Universe, them singing a refrain of “reproductive system, baby” while doing pelvic thrusts was one of the funniest bits of the song to me. May 12, 2026 at 7:06 pm #320214 PodeyParticipant That’s a shame, because when I first saw Parallel Universe, them singing a refrain of “reproductive system, baby” while doing pelvic thrusts was one of the funniest bits of the song to me. I was 4 years old when it aired so I almost certainly heard the single before I saw the visuals, years later. May 12, 2026 at 8:02 pm #320220 MoonlightParticipant Nothing’s worse for your comprehension of a show’s dialogue than having repeatedly watched it since you were a kid and some of those kid misunderstandings slipping through the cracks until you suddenly realize decades later.
