November 5, 2017 at 3:06 pm #223772 RidleyParticipant Why did you combine three separate people’s opinions into one though? November 5, 2017 at 3:55 pm #223787 siParticipant You’ve missed Danny’s version from the Tongue Tied single. November 5, 2017 at 9:04 pm #223867 Guybrush ThreepwoodMember A shame most of them seem to be covers of the Hu and Lambert cover. November 5, 2017 at 9:37 pm #223876 Ben SaundersParticipant There’s a horrible shitty version of the theme they keep playing at the cast’s convention appearances with the most unconvincing guitar solo you’ve ever heard. Breaks my heart. I’d refuse to appear unless they sorted it out. November 5, 2017 at 9:58 pm #223882 bloodtellerParticipant when will Jawscvmcdia actually DISCUSS any of the things in the topics he starts? he just does the OP and then fucks off November 5, 2017 at 10:16 pm #223887 Ben SaundersParticipant It’s the Hu and Lambert version I was talking about, hahaha. Shite. November 6, 2017 at 6:31 am #223911 Seb PatrickKeymaster There’s a very simple test: if you play or cover the Red Dwarf theme and it includes the Hu/Lambert extra lyrics, you should not be allowed to play or cover the Red Dwarf theme. November 6, 2017 at 10:17 am #223928 Ben SaundersParticipant I quite like the “you and me and the galaxy” line, that’s not in that version is it? It’s better than the shite extra verses Howard showed us on the VI DVD. November 6, 2017 at 10:24 am #223929 Pete Part ThreeParticipant >I quite like the “you and me and the galaxy” line, that’s not in that version is it? It is and it’s shite. The extra (fake) lyrics don’t make any sense within the context of the song. The song is about someone dreaming of being on holiday in Fiji, not a jolly romp about traversing the galaxy. Goodall’s extra lyrics may not have been great, but they continued the idea of the song, rather than completely contradicting the first part of it. November 6, 2017 at 10:42 am #223930 Ben SaundersParticipant Well I didn’t care about any of that when I was 9 and downloaded the “extended theme” from Kazaa November 6, 2017 at 10:55 am #223931 Seb PatrickKeymaster It is and it’s shite. The extra (fake) lyrics don’t make any sense within the context of the song. The song is about someone dreaming of being on holiday in Fiji, not a jolly romp about traversing the galaxy. Yes, this. To say nothing of the fact that Lister is three million years away from “the galaxy”. Basically, whoever wrote those lyrics thought they were writing Hitchhiker’s Guide. November 6, 2017 at 1:17 pm #223932 JawscvmcdiaParticipant I also think that there are some similarities between the Red Dwarf theme and the Z-Cars theme from the 1960s. What do you think? November 6, 2017 at 1:36 pm #223933 Ian SymesKeymaster Very much so. My first exposure to the Z Cars theme tune was watching an Everton game on TV (their players run out to the song, for some reason), and as a nipper I could have sworn it was the latter part of the Gunmen end theme. November 6, 2017 at 1:43 pm #223934 Pete Part ThreeParticipant Oh, ditto. November 6, 2017 at 3:46 pm #223940 Ben SaundersParticipant It’s just a major arpeggio so it’s going to sound like anything else that uses a major arpeggio November 8, 2017 at 11:50 am #224121 Toxteth O-GradyParticipant The Hu/Lambert version, that’s the one they played on University Challenge recently. Oh how I hate it! If the BBC can’t even manage to source their own original version of the theme, and use this piece of garbage instead, it’s not surprising that conventions don’t get it right either. It’s seemingly the most commonly stocked version of the tune, comprising about 99% of the world’s music titled ‘Red Dwarf theme’. They’ll be using it on the actual show next. November 8, 2017 at 5:54 pm #224142 HamishParticipant > They’ll be using it on the actual show next. Timewave Remastered perhaps? November 8, 2017 at 8:00 pm #224162 Taiwan TonyParticipant Because of Eddie Izzard, I can only hear Kumbaya when I think of the music to Z Cars. And vice versa. November 8, 2017 at 8:40 pm #224178 International DebrisParticipant Just found the Hu/Lambert version on YouTube. So THIS is the shit I downloaded when I first got Napster 17 years ago.
