Does Robert Llewelyn have a pseudonym?

Listening to the Boys From The Dwarf(cast) discuss his 1991 interview in Smegazine, it made me realise that I didn’t know much about him, having only read one (?) of his autobiographies many years ago. I read his wiki page and saw a mention of the village he lived in and what he’d been involved in.

Now, this is where it gets weird.

“Robert Llewelyn” was registered at an address in that village from 2007-2010 as part of a company called “Cream Studios” (which carried in until 2014) along with four other guys. That’s his sole listed company.

But at the same address you find Zest Management Consultants (2008-present) which among its three directors are Judy Pascoe, Robert’s wife and ‘Robert Charles Allen’ who has the same birthdate as ‘our’ Robert. He also lives at the same address as Judy, and the same address as ‘our’ Robert who’s attached to Cream Studios.

This ‘Robert Charles Allen’ is listed as a TV Presenter and is a director of the company ‘Fully Charged Limited’. He’s listed as another address here (this is 2017 onwards) that he shares with the company secretary until 2010, Judith Pascoe.

What gives? Like Chris Brown, did he take on an alias? One that we haven’t know about?

(I’ve tried not to doxx anyone here, but if admins think it prudent, then feel free to nix it!) It’s all publicly available stuff, though.

Meant to add, ‘Charles Allen’ doesn’t sound *entirely* dissimilar to ‘Llewelyn’…

Yep, Llewellyn is a stage name.

    *Gasp!*

Not even mentioned on his wiki. I like how it’s been generated from his actual name.

So we have Alan, Barry, Charles, Charles again, Chris, Craig, Danny, John, Jules, Llewelyn and Robert to now make up our ‘everyone has multiple first names’ conceit. Fun!

Okay, then I still don’t get this from his interview in the last Smegazine covered, discussing The Reconstructed Heart:

TS: You used your own name rather than a pseudonym.
    RL: It’s just Robert Llewellyn.
TS: It wouldn’t have been the same thrill seeing the book otherwise would it?
RL: No. I wanted my name on it!

They seem to know he goes by a pseudonym, but then respond as if he isn’t.

Fascinating! Has he *ever* publicly gone by his original name? I know it’s widely known that Chris Barrie is actually Chris Brown, but I’ve not seen the same suggestion for Robert.

I was looking for the first reference to the comedian Robert Llewelyn, and there’s this word salad from the Bristol Evening post 17/10/85

… fiendish oriental humour and disco music Their name comes from English writing Japanese pencil! Blah are Chris Eymard and Robert Llewelyn former of comedy group Tickets from the Albany Centre or the Hall organisers of an amateur show about an old part of Bristol …”

Can’t find a reference to him being in ‘Blah’ but Chris Eymard was an early co-writer of his.

All unknown. I wonder if anything ever became of future stars like Jock McLog?

Interesting that the name of Chris Eymard goes against the wikipedia quote of “started performing professionally with the group alongside Bernie Evans, Nigel Ordish and Graham Allum”

Obvs! Thanks for spotting that – as I didn’t. Either way, those are our first two references to him by that name…

The tone would suggest to not go there. Presumably he doesn’t want stalked by Stalkey, the stalk dispenser.

I’m pretty sure Craig mentions Bobby’s real name during one of the questions about almost all of the lead actors having two first names in the Swirly Thing Alert/Smegheads In Seattle videos.

No no, it was “…The Frank Chickens are a Japanese girl duo offer a bizarre cabaret-style mixture of fiendish oriental humour and disco”

The first people associated with Robert’s early days to have achieved some level of fame!

The Frank Chickens main front, Kazuko Hohki would later record The Fall. She is married to Grant Showbiz, the producer of some of The Fall’s very first albums, which were nearly flawless masterpieces which stand up well many years later. After a couple of short breaks, he would return to record them years later, despite the lack of the other key personalities of those early years, despite the writing standard having declined, and them performing to smaller and smaller audiences as those members who stayed the course became wizened parodies of their earlier selves, dragging themselves onstage despite increasing physical infirmities, physically assaulting people who were just trying to do their jobs, and spouting hard-right nonsense about immigrants and the woke.
I’m sorry, that got away from me.

Reference to the Monarchs song or just coincidence?

Some individuals have suggested that “Axl Rose” can be rearranged to spell “oral sex”. However, this is more of a play on words and not a standard anagram.

    Google has opinions…

I’ve been trying for ages (unsuccessfully, obviously) to think of a comedian whose real first name is Luke to make up what’d be a great Only Connect question.

It’d be Harry Hill, Bill Bailey, [x] and, pushing it, Romesh Ranganathan.

The problem being the positioning of the answers – they’re supposed to get easier, and the first is probably the easiest, the third obviously the hardest. The fourth stretching it to fit the answer.

Well, obviously, I’m after comedians whose real first name is different to the one they perform under.
