We think it’s Freddie, because he’s dressed very similar, but then Del (David Jason) steps into shot, pats him on the shoulder. ‘Come on, Rodders…don’t want the chips to go cold, do we?’ and they walk away. Or not…lol. January 2, 2011 at 4:29 pm #111284 pfmParticipant > Your comment has been queued for moderation by site administrators and will be published after approval. April 23, 2011 at 8:58 pm #111959 ChrisMParticipant I only found out about that a short while ago. A real shame. April 23, 2011 at 9:57 pm #111962 Pete Part ThreeParticipant You can see from my comments above that I had huge problems with his output from the last 10 years but I adore pretty much everything he did throughout the eighties and nineties. He’s probably the first TV writer I ever knew by name. RIP I guess that’s the end of Rock and Chips then, huh? April 23, 2011 at 11:24 pm #111967 CarlitoParticipant I think John Sullivan’s son is also a writer, and wrote a lot of The Green Green Grass, so don’t write off Rock and Chips entirely (although I’m not sure that were ever any plans beyond the trilogy anyway). If anything, it puts to bed Only Fools and Horses. Though I could kinda see Rock and Chips continuing with new writers, I doubt David Jason could ever be tempted to reprise Del Boy without John Sullivan’s words in his mouth. April 23, 2011 at 11:31 pm #111968 CarlitoParticipant R.I.P. to Mr Sullivan, I should add. The writer of my joint favourite sitcom of all time (no prizes for guessing the other!). Creator of Del Boy Trotter: a man who stands at the top of the league that includes such luminaries as Arnold Rimmer, George Costanza, Harold Steptoe, Frasier Crane, Alan Partridge, G.O.B. Bluth, Edmund Blackadder, Victor Meldrew and that sweary bloke played by Peter Capaldi in The Thick Of It whose name I inexplicably cannot think of… and then did (Malcolm Tucker) but figured I’d leave my stream of consciousness text present none-the-less, even though it would have taken less time to correct the sentence than type all this… in the file marked ‘Greatest Sitcom Characters Of All Time’. So there. April 24, 2011 at 5:39 pm #111998 Pete Part ThreeParticipant Top 10 OFAH episodes, anyone? 10.Dates (1988 Xmas) 9. Yuppy Love (Series 6) 8. The Jolly Boys Outing (1989 Xmas) 7. Surprised ‘Time On Our Hands’ didn’t get a look in there, Pete. April 25, 2011 at 6:16 pm #112017 genericnerdyusernameParticipant I don’t find Heroes & Villains all that funny when they’re running past Parralel Universe-Lister, which is what is always shown on clip shows in my experience, but when they arrive at the funeral always cracks me up, so it’s on my list (which I shall probably never make into a physical list JUST yet, as I haven’t seen all of OFAH yet.). April 25, 2011 at 6:47 pm #112018 CarlitoParticipant From the top of my head, my top 10 (in no particular order, as it would always depend on my mood and tomorrow could be in a totally different order – or even a slightly different list!): Time On Our Hands The Jolly Boys’ Outing Yuppy Love Dates A Losing Streak Class of ’62 Strained Relations Oh To Be In England (aka Miami Twice Pt II) Sickness & Wealth The Frog’s Legacy Special mention to Rodney Come Home simply for Uncle Albert’s “look horrified, like you’ve just seen a U-boat off the starboard bow” scene; a scene criminally underlooked in ‘best of’ clip compilations every time. I kinda hope that someone else does write more just to draw the story to a close. April 29, 2011 at 6:27 am #112088 Pete Part ThreeParticipant I think the problem Sullivan had with the idea was that there was no real plan for how many episodes there would be. The story essentially ends when Reg walks out, but good viewing figures would delay that…meaning we have the same problem with a lot of US TV (for example, How I Met Your Mother) and things are dragged out far longer than they need to be with very little of interest actually happening. Probably not now though. I doubt anyone would take over this. While the ratings have been solid, the reaction has been muted. I haven’t seen last night’s episode yet but rest assured I’ll be whining about it in a couple of days… April 29, 2011 at 11:12 am #112078 CarlitoParticipant I only saw the last 40 mins but enjoyed what I saw. This definitely didn’t end like it was supposed to be the final one. Guess we were going to get more, and then the unfortunate occured. If you look at it as a stand-alone show (I guess there have got to be some people out there who have been watching Rn’C but never watched OFAH) it is now horribly unresolved. I suppose I would kinda like to see a final episode now to wrap things up (even though we know what will happen) but it would be bittersweet coming from the pen of another writer. For all we know, John Sullivan may have scripted more prior to his untimely passing anyway. Either way, I have to say that – aside from the pointlessness of the project – I have enjoyed Rock and Chips more than any other John Sullivan show in many years. The first episode was a bit meh, just okay, but the Xmas special and last night’s show were pretty funny.
