Should Rimmer have come back when he went off to be the next Ace?

I thought it was really sad that Rimmer wasn’t the one to break the chain as I really think he could’ve done it. He’s the most weaselly, most despicable Rimmer that Ace ever met, and despite him always wanting to play the hero, I really think he could’ve been the one to do it. Ace was a pigheaded jerk- more stuck-up than Rimmer- and yet he did it. *Shrugs* I guess it figures- but I wish it didn’t.
