May 17, 2022 at 8:38 pm #273782 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant If Doug were to officially announce the end of Red Dwarf in the TOS meme thread wouldn’t that just make everything worth it. May 17, 2022 at 8:55 pm #273786 DaveParticipant May 17, 2022 at 9:08 pm #273789 GlenTokyoParticipant At this point I just wish someone would say anything. It’s crying out for a statement. If Red Dwarf in it’s current form has carked it, then fair enough, it was always going to happen, the cast are getting old and diverting more time to other pursuits, apart from Danny, none of them act anymore apart from Red Dwarf as far as I know. It might be a good thing, perhaps some amazing alternative format will come out when Doug can focus on that instead. If Rob is going to do some Red Dwarf then I’ll feel bad for Doug, but he’s had a good go with it, however if he’s going to use the cast the above still applies, so he’d better get a move on hadn’t he. The memes are good though, so at least there’s that to look at while Red Dwarf floats aimlessly around the legal ether. May 18, 2022 at 11:06 am #273802 Ian SymesKeymaster The problem is, there’s no definitive statement to make while all this legal shite is ongoing. Nobody will officially know what’s happening with the show until there’s an official outcome to all that, which could take years, by which time everyone may be too old and knackered, and UKTV may well have got bored and moved on. The death of Red Dwarf is slow and drawn out, it’s happening right now and time is running out to prevent it. It’s also entirely self-inflicted. May 18, 2022 at 11:08 am #273803 Ian SymesKeymaster Still, you’ve got to laugh, haven’t you? May 18, 2022 at 11:33 am #273805 Flap JackParticipant Yeah, the situation is frustratingly absurd. Doug wants to make more Red Dwarf, UKTV wants to make more Red Dwarf, the cast want to make more Red Dwarf, Rob (allegedly) doesn’t want to prevent more Red Dwarf from being made, and presumably GNP also want to make more Red Dwarf. And yet here we are. He’s crying because he’s been reading the TOS meme thread. Do you think he saw the meme that used an episode he wrote to cast Rob as Ace Rimmer and him as a Nazi? Maybe that’s why Dave put it in the main memes thread instead. May 18, 2022 at 11:38 am #273806 Jason aka Smeg4BrainsParticipant May 18, 2022 at 11:57 am #273808 Ian SymesKeymaster That’s perfect, Smegley. May 19, 2022 at 12:40 pm #273859 Flap JackParticipant In the “Does this mean anything?? Idk” stakes, Doug just announced he’s under new management. May 19, 2022 at 12:41 pm #273860 DaveParticipant I hope that stands for Paul Bloody Jackson. May 19, 2022 at 12:56 pm #273861 StilianidesParticipant While it may mean nothing, hopefully some new material of any kind emerges from Doug at some point. May 19, 2022 at 2:41 pm #273864 UnrumbleParticipant While it may mean nothing, hopefully some new material of any kind emerges from Doug at some point. Specifically from his buttski? Or is that solely Rob’s preserve? May 19, 2022 at 2:45 pm #273865 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant Doug signing with a new management company somewhat suggests he at least expects to have some sort of work on the horizon. And I can’t imagine PBJ would take on a client that wasn’t planning to work. I know there’s a bit more to management than just work but, no-one would take on a client just to aid in their legal issues. May 19, 2022 at 3:19 pm #273866 Jonathan CappsKeymaster Out of the Red is happening, let’s go May 19, 2022 at 3:36 pm #273867 Flap JackParticipant If you want to interpret this news in the most conspiratorially optimistic way possible, then perhaps Doug’s old management were the ones playing hardball with GNP, and under the new management things will be resolved quickly. … yeah, not going to put any money on that one. I hope that stands for Paul Bloody Jackson. PBJ actually stands for “Peter Baynham & Jamelia”. They run it together.
