Very impressive indeed. I like the idea of having them bound.
Although the pedantic twat in me wouldn’t have put the Remastered stuff on it.

The design for Red Dwarf on the first issue has some resemblance to the Re-Dwarf.

The design for Starbug on the first issue has little resemblance to any Starbug.

I always found the artwork in the smegazine quite horrific. I am not saying its bad but I found the drawings and art really unsettling and I remember when I was younger reading them being quite horrified by the comic strips. The main crew always unsettled me, the strip about the polymorph and things always give me a really bad time.

Some of the art was great, I thought. I moan about the Issue 1 cover, but I liked a lot of Jon Rushby’s stuff, in the Future Echoes strips especially. Kev F Sutherland did a funny Androids strip, and there was much to study when working out how to draw Kryten’s head properly – where the lines on his head are, how his chin and mouth work. Lots of nice things, and sometimes experimental stuff. The Jake Bullet strip was great.

The artwork in the Future Echoes adaptation of the part where Bexley explodes made me feel sick and made me nervous to watch the episode when it finally came out on video a year later.

Yes, I was surprised at some of the visual differences, too.
And Rimmer’s line “Git”, about halfway through. In the episode, he says it quietly, almost under his breath, as Lister leaves.
In the magazine, it’s the final panel of the issue’s strip, and it becomes a loud exclamation shouted at him.

Oh yeah – I remember the git line got a big laugh from me because I was expecting him to shout it! The series 1 episode guide in issue 3 was a huge thrill as well.

I did really like that Grant Naylor finely got their wish for Rimmer to be monochromatic.
