‘Allo ‘Allo to be shown in Germany

Hm, another show that I’ve never seen. I’ll certainly watch the first episode in English AND German, if they really boradcast the dubbed version on telly here in the end. The dubbing might just totally kill any humour, too. I think it’s easier to translate and dub American humour than British. Maybe because we have a lot more experience with American tv series and films. Or maybe due to the nature of the humour. You can’t preserve anything accent-based, and other aspects of British humour seem… almost too subtle to carry over. Also, cynical comments are just funnier in English than German. Oh God, Blackadder in German was *so bad*.

Of course, just because Pro7Sat1 bought all eight series doesn’t mean they’re actually going to broadcast any (or all) of it – see Doctor Who or the *cough* iTeam/IT Crow. In general, many people think that Pro7 is (or used to be?) a great tv channel for teh movies, but is general shit with series (… and promoting, err, NOT promoting them) and Sat1 is even worse in that aspect.

But we will see! Thanks for letting me know, I’ll keep an eye on the tv schedule :)

‘Allo ‘Allo is largely awful.

But I do enjoy its piss-taking of all nationalities.

I like Cadbury’s Mini-eggs.

?Allo ?Allo is quality! And I think you would hard pressed to come up with a Series that has spanned that amount of time and STILL kept it funny, and if you say Friends, I’ll kill you with my little tank… Jimbo, you don’t like anything!

Actually, I will agree that in concept Allo Allo is funny.

The conceit that everyone’s speaking French and poorly spoken French sounds like broken English in a bizarre accent is genius.

I also like its irreverance for pretty much all sides of the conflict.

Aside from that, the seaside postcard-style willies and bums and titties and amusingly-shaped sausages humour isn’t something I enjoy.

The copy that Mad Lord Bath had hung up eventually had to be taken down ‘cos so many people were stopping to admire it that it was blocking the corridor and no-one could get through.

Amazon.de only lists the UK imports?
Also, yeah, at least British accents would be lost in a German dubbing – we can?t just replace them with random German local accents (?). A French accent would work though.

This is how we made the dubbing:

The british talk with british accents
The french with french accent
Bertorelli talks a great macho italian style
Germans talk “normal” german (sometimes more prussian military style, more gay or a fussy nazi stlye)
Grabtree talks weird german (using similar sounding words) with a british accent.
