Spending Christmas Eve working on some writing project or other while listening to commercial-free Christmas radio, ever since I was a wee teen. I always end up creatively inspired on Christmas Eve (at least partly now that it’s become a habit) and the music’s a big (but importantly temporary) part of that. I miss turkey though. The cook in our household isn’t that into turkey (although she does a nice spread otherwise.) EDIT- You guys are fast. Ok, I’ve nibbled it down to 1. December 15, 2008 at 9:16 pm #87504 pfmParticipant 7. Watching/reading A Christmas Carol. I don’t care how many times I’ve seen various Christmas Carol films OR read Dickens’s story (which I still love and next week I AM going to read it again) IMO it can never be enough. I can’t wait for Zemeckis’s Beowulf-style mocap version that’s out next year. Jim Carrey as Scrooge, Gary Oldman as Bob Cratchitt, Colin Firth as Fred (Scrooge’s nephew), Bob Hoskins as Fezziwig. Could it be the definitive version? Er no, probably not. The Alistair Simm version is the closest we’ll ever get, and that’s certainly not perfect, but yes still the best. Apart from the Muppet Christmas Carol, of course. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KBthi_An5qQ December 15, 2008 at 9:19 pm #87509 TheLeenParticipant 8. That’s where a bunch of brewers go to someone’s house (usually the person is aware of this) with a case of their beer, and then everyone swaps so they walk away with a bottle of everyone else’s. Essentially everyone has a great time getting drunk and talking about beer. At this year’s swap there was 14 beer taps hooked up :) December 16, 2008 at 8:59 am #87531 JoParticipant >Bill Murray in Scrooged Agreed! Ian we need to get this on DVD :o) 22. I ordered my dad a box-set of WW2 war films for his birthday, then realized one of them was a film I’d already bought for him on a previous birthday/Christmas. When you star duplicating presents…. not good. Not much point in having 2 so, hence the e-bay. December 16, 2008 at 2:27 pm #87549 Tarka DalParticipant I ordered something from HMV on November 30th. December 17, 2008 at 3:53 pm #87620 Pete Part ThreeParticipant I can never understand them putting on Christmas Carol adaptations after Christmas Eve. Same with stuff featuring Santa. December 17, 2008 at 4:02 pm #87623 PhilParticipant Well, Christmas Day is excusable for A Christmas Carol, I think…nearly all (if not all) of the adaptations retain the, “Today? Why, it’s Christmas Day!” scene, which sort of advances the story to the day on which you’re watching it. So I can understand that. The Santa Claus stuff, though…yeah. Agreed.
