Having searched G&T I could find no discussion of this. Though I found enthusiastic old posts from John Hoare watching similar old American Spitting Image Pilots. This one co written by Rob & Doug doesn’t come up though… The 1987 Movie Awards.

This Special episode  hosted by a real David Frost, takes plenty of pot shots at a flappy eared Leonard Nimoy being an aged actor in an overly long running sci fi franchise (oh the irony now for our Dwarf crew!!). This disgruntled Mr Spock tries to rig the Oscar’s.

Aimed at launching a US series this one doesn’t have Chris Barrie as voice. It did air in the UK as a special before Red Dwarf started.

We see a couple of nominated films as sketches including this Aliens Parody – The Alien.

You can currently find the sketch in the show at 32 minutes into this longer video on archive org,

We see the siqourney character mock the horror movie cliche’s of easily picked off co stars, and the her gratuitous striping to underwear for no logical survival reasons, before we get a beautifully shot puppet in full Giger style complaining about all the stairs. All this stylishly executed a couple of years before playing at the creation of the polymorph :-)

Our Alien …”Gavin” … later attends the award ceremony looking nicely turned out.

Some proto-Simpsons voices from Harry Shearer there.

And the year before in the third year of the main show in 1986, executive script edited by Rob & Doug comes the Star Tek Sketch.

“Its mission to go round and round until everyone knows each episode off by heart…
new generations to wear silly ears at conventions.”

Oh 1984 Doug, if only you knew the world  2025 Doug would be regularly appearing in!!!!

“According to tricorder There is life on this planet. Above the level of vegetables but below PE Teachers.”
Turns out jokes can live long and prosper.
