Creator Topic Viewing 17 replies - 1 through 17 (of 17 total) Author Replies December 1, 2008 at 5:24 am #87193 John HoareParticipant The worst comedians list is awful. Victoria Wood? Harry Hill? Spike FUCKING Milligan? Alan FUCKING Bennett? It makes me want to cry. And whilst I’m not the biggest fan of hers ever, what the hell has Jo Brand done to place her so high? December 1, 2008 at 4:36 pm #87195 Danny StephensonKeymaster The fact that Catherine Tate is anywhere IN that list makes want to vomit blood. December 1, 2008 at 5:48 pm #87196 Jonathan CappsKeymaster > what the hell has Jo Brand done to place her so high? She’s used by anyone who wants evidence that female comedians are shit. What they’ve done there is confused Jo Brand with ‘all female comedians’. Victoria Wood being on that list is an utter travesty (among others), though. December 1, 2008 at 6:14 pm #87197 hummingbirdParticipant Alan Bennett is a comedian? Bizarre. Actor, author, playwright, screenwriter, and director he may be, but *comedian*? December 1, 2008 at 6:17 pm #87198 Danny StephensonKeymaster Something’s confusing me. Eddie Izzard is in the top list. That’s fine. I love the guy, but Spike Milligan is instrumental in why Izzard started comedy in the first place… Who voted for this? December 1, 2008 at 6:42 pm #87199 Jonathan CappsKeymaster > Who voted for this? According to another forum, users of smile.co.uk, sub-category: cunts. December 1, 2008 at 8:06 pm #87200 Seb PatrickKeymaster Victoria Wood is ten times the stand-up that most of the people on the “best” list are. And Alan Bennett is quite simply one of the greatest and most influential comic writers this country has ever produced. In conclusion : people are fucking idiots. December 1, 2008 at 9:57 pm #87201 RidleyParticipant 7. Paul Merton That’s got to be not voted best as opposed to voted worst, surely? December 2, 2008 at 1:09 am #87202 pfmParticipant How could a poll about comedians be so humourless…? OK I don’t mind some of the ‘favourite’ list. At one time or another I’ve absolutely cried laughing at Peter Kay, Lee Evans, Rowan Atkinson, Jack Dee and Eddie Izzard. In fact, I was nearly weeing myself watching the Max & Paddy outtakes on youtube the other day, something I’ve never seen before because I didn’t buy the DVD due to the series being pretty poor. The outtakes are way funnier. Anyway, those that I listed are OK being up there, but the others aren’t. The ‘least favourite’ list is just weird. Did people actually vote for the worst or was it who was chosen the least? It’s funny how massively successful most of the people on that list have been. And I don’t dislike any of them. The only person I don’t rate out of both lists is Catherine Tate, though that’s just judging her from her sketch show. I liked her a lot on Doctor Who. I liked her a lot on Doctor Who. I think it’s starting to become a pretty standard opinion that Tate isn’t much of a comedian but blimey, she can actually act. December 2, 2008 at 2:08 pm #87213 Jonathan CappsKeymaster > but blimey, she can actually act. I have no idea where this had suddenly come from. She certainly showed no sustained acting ability during series 4 of Who – just flashes of okayness. December 2, 2008 at 6:20 pm #87217 Pete Part ThreeParticipant Yeah, but is she bovvered? LOL!!!1111 December 2, 2008 at 9:54 pm #87220 ChrisMParticipant >something I?ve never seen before because I didn?t buy the DVD due to the series being pretty poor I disagree. Loved it, but each to his own, etc. For example, I don’t like Victoria Wood that much (as a comedienne I mean, I’m sure she’s a lovely lady.) I wasn’t keen on her stand-up stuff (granted the little I’ve seen… and that was a while ago. There is a lot of humor I used to dislike that I like a lot now, so who knows?) and Dinner Ladies…. not my cup of tea. That being said she is much loved elsewhere, and many love her. She certainly doesn’t rate being one of the worst comedians ever. December 2, 2008 at 10:05 pm #87222 Pete Part ThreeParticipant I don’t think she’s been great for a while and I thought dinnerladies was piss-poor, but As Seen on TV is a truly great sketch show. December 3, 2008 at 7:08 am #87224 Danny StephensonKeymaster I do like dinnerladies, i think it’s got some killer moments, especially from the likes of Julie Walters. “As Seen On TV” has some low points but you can’t deny that Acorn Antiques is one of the best things in it.
