I’d like to find out if they’re still the owner of the remaining piece of the OG Dwarf model, and if I could get some exact measurements as I’m trying to do as accurate as possible a 3D reconstruction. Precise measurements of it or identified greeblies would go a long way to correctly scaling the photogrammetry of the DVD model shots. Even more so if they still have the list of greeblies they said they’d already identified. I bought a model of the classic Dwarf a while back, they’re still on eBay and etsy, it was absolutely terrible. It wasn’t hugely accurate but I could live with that, the problem was that none of the pieces would fit together. A friend of mine offered to fix it with some laser cutting thingy but it turned out that the details on the hull wouldn’t line up if he made the internal faces fit together. We definitely need a well made Red Dwarf model on the market. With 3D printing you wouldn’t even have to print them yourself. You could sell the STL or failing that upload it to a site like Shapeways, they print and post and you get a share of the money. A decent-sized Starbug would be a must-buy. I missed the boat on the shitty toy version with the wonky sound chip when that came out, but ideally I’d like something a little bigger. One of those Lego Ideas sets that keep doing the rounds would be great. July 19, 2025 at 8:16 am #308916 Cardinal_HordrissParticipant We definitely need a well made Red Dwarf model on the market. One of those Lego Ideas sets that keep doing the rounds would be great. I’ve got a fairly good Starbug print. It has a few Dave elements but is mainly old school Starbug. It originally was able to detach the rear section but the problem was it wouldn’t stay together when you lifted it up so I glued it in place in the end. The legs swing back and the feet fold up which is a nice feature. The Product Enterprise Starbug is a bit of a let down. The legs are very weak and the plastic is quite brittle overall. I have 2 because my finger literally went through one while just holding it. July 20, 2025 at 2:36 am #308931 SciParticipant Would that be for 3D printing? I wouldn’t have space for one thing. What I wanted to do eventually was make a VR experience of it in full scale flypast to really get the sense of size depicted in the show. But I also just want it to exist again in one form or another. A loving homage to a lost piece of childhood. And fuck-you to Sir Issac Newton. I’m not looking to charge for any copy of it. Photogrametry of the DVD model footage has been helpful for general shapes, but getting the precise scale of the original model is important for correctly identifying the various greeblies used. Like the piece in Captain Star’s user icon appears to be a rear portion of the left shoulder of a Super Dimension Century Orgus II model kit, but I can’t be sure what specific kit. I’m guessing a 1/40 scale, but there seem to be a few. Captain Star’s matches the number of vent grills on the original, but has a locating tab/tophat that I can’t make out on any of the footage available. I managed to find a duplicate of the wooden ruler they used for scale in their photos of the remaining name panel, but none of the shots are pefectly square on, so there’s still some distortion trying to scale it as precisely as possible. It’s also really frustrating that not all the model footage used in the show is included on the DVD bonuses. I know some footage of original model was used in Skipper, but I’d really love to know if that’s restored/upscaled archival stock or actually re-digitised from original filmstock. Because if that 35mm filmstock still exists, it would be far more detailed than anything publically available. The perspective was off the upper right side of the ship but not a close-up. It was more well lit than most shots used in the UK version so it might be of some use, that said it might be too blurry. March 6, 2026 at 8:54 pm #317096 Captain StarParticipant I’m still here, I missed the original post. I’ve been mostly lurking, dipping in from time to time, as I’d forgotten my log-in. I’ve identified & collected quite a few Xabungle & Robotech kits used on the original model over the years, I need to catalogue them & where the parts appear. The parts I identified on the name panel come from the Robotech ORGUSS II 1:48 scale kit (other parts are also on the rear side & back of the ship). Another notable kit to gage scale is Xabungle: Sendvead Type 1:144, an entire sprue was vacuum formed as a side panel on the underside. March 7, 2026 at 6:04 pm #317117 JimboidParticipant Speaking of people who haven’t been around for a while – whatever happened to past regular Pete Part Three? March 7, 2026 at 7:42 pm #317120 Spaceworm JimParticipant Not to turn this into a ‘where is…’ thread, but I also wonder about Pete. March 7, 2026 at 7:56 pm #317121 tombowParticipant I miss the threads we used to have at new year where we talked about our favourite (non dwarf related) music, films, culture etc of the year… I could have started another but i didn’t want to if that wasn’t the current “vibe”. March 8, 2026 at 7:24 pm #317139 RidleyParticipant As long as the answer is Sonic you’re fine. I messaged Peter Parter on the Twitters a while back to inquire after him but that was post-Musk and my own checking in on that was few and far between before that whole passcode system got implemented. (Arrogantly assuming my sliding into his DMs is even welcome.) March 8, 2026 at 9:19 pm #317143 TechnopeasantParticipant But what of Pete Parter’s sister? (If he has a sister, I do apolagize…) Author Replies Viewing 14 replies - 1 through 14 (of 14 total) Scroll to top • Scroll to Recent Forum Posts You must be logged in to reply to this topic.
