The melting point? 23 Nov” “DougRDNaylor Doug Naylor Does a sun have an Event Horizon? Anyone know? I thought it did but I’m being told it doesn’t. 23 Nov” So, apparently someone will be flying into a sun at some point. Nothing major, but nice to see something like this and then engage in some elaborate plot speculation. November 25, 2011 at 1:21 pm #113385 Paul MullerParticipant Have just read that back and doesn’t justify the excitable thread title at all really. Sorry about that. November 25, 2011 at 4:36 pm #113386 ori-STUDFARMParticipant I think it is perfectly justified. I love pre-show speculation. This is the start of the kind of speculation that we had for BtE Easter specials. Speculation that will probably be killed by the presence of a live audience in a few weeks time. One of the few unavoidable negatives that having a live audience brings about. November 25, 2011 at 5:15 pm #113388 Stabbim the SkutterParticipant I reckon we can keep it under control; although one mod would have to take one for the team, he could then delete any spoilery information that crops up, or move it to a hidden topic. November 25, 2011 at 5:24 pm #113389 ori-STUDFARMParticipant It’s going to very awkward indeed. I’ve posted a thread on another forum I moderate to see what they want. Full spoilers. No spoilers. Or some spoilers provided they state the source of their information and provided it isn’t from an audience member. Trouble is, as a moderator I’m going to have to read everything and check… …shame. It would be nice to go into this series knowing nothing for sure. November 25, 2011 at 8:42 pm #113390 pfmParticipant Well, flying into a sun is a tad more believable than them turning up on Coronation Street, right? :P November 25, 2011 at 11:02 pm #113392 Jonathan CappsKeymaster We’ve not worked out our exact spoiler policy just yet but I think it’s safe to say that anything Doug says is fair game. November 26, 2011 at 9:19 am #113394 DaveParticipant >So, apparently someone will be flying into a sun at some point. Gunmen Of The Apocalypse. November 26, 2011 at 9:32 am #113395 JamesTCParticipant That was a moon. November 26, 2011 at 11:35 am #113396 CarlitoParticipant Well, maybe he’s written a sequel? Sunmen Of The Apocalypse. November 28, 2011 at 10:37 am #113407 Kris CarterParticipant I’m kinda sequel-ed out now. No more sequels please. Ooo! Unless they’re going to follow up Stasis Leak! (Yeah, yeah, I know, never gonna happen..) November 28, 2011 at 11:06 am #113408 Paul MullerParticipant Stasis Crap? November 28, 2011 at 12:56 pm #113415 Danny StephensonKeymaster Follow up not follow through. November 28, 2011 at 12:57 pm #113416 Danny StephensonKeymaster Follow up not follow through. November 28, 2011 at 1:58 pm #113417 siParticipant Just had a neb to see if Doug had written anything interesting about the readthroughs on Twitter. I see his last Tweet was a reply to a nauseating Gazpacho Soup Day message from…someone. :/ November 28, 2011 at 3:34 pm #113418 RidleyParticipant Gee, it sure is boring around here. I just wonder what Gannon’s up to! November 28, 2011 at 5:59 pm #113420 AlexParticipant Has anyone noticed Doug’s comment on twitter about the set? Retro Season 5 feel but probably best look ever -though not finished yet. Ingenious the way it fits together. That sounds very promising to me. November 28, 2011 at 8:26 pm #113423 Ben PaddonParticipant He said Season. I may have to hurt him. Said the hypocrite. November 28, 2011 at 10:53 pm #113425 JamesTCParticipant Doug has confirmed on twitter that Starbug will be in the new series. Hurray!!! November 28, 2011 at 11:06 pm #113427 siParticipant Oh good. :) November 29, 2011 at 12:09 am #113428 AlexParticipant Doug has confirmed on twitter that Starbug will be in the new series. Hurray!!! Oh really? I’d just assumed that having returned to being on the Dwarf, and with the budget being what it is, that the expense of making the Starbug set as well would have meant we didn’t see it. That said, it could just be the exterior. Nice to know it’s in there. November 29, 2011 at 12:17 am #113429 JamesTCParticipant He responded to a question about where the series would be set, whether it would be on Red Dwarf or Starbug and he responded “Both” so I think it is safe to say interiors and exteriors. November 29, 2011 at 1:18 am #113430 JoParticipant In which case, I really hope the budget stretches to bring The Model Unit back in! November 29, 2011 at 9:36 am #113431 Jonathan CappsKeymaster In which case, I really hope the budget stretches to bring The Model Unit back in! This. November 29, 2011 at 11:36 am #113432 siParticipant Likewise. November 29, 2011 at 7:17 pm #113454 Ben PaddonParticipant I foresee disappointment on that front. November 29, 2011 at 8:33 pm #113458 JoParticipant I foresee disappointment on that front. Well, aren’t you just Mr. Piss-on-your-chips. I’m sure we’re all aware that The Model Unit being involved is a long-shot, but it doesn’t stop us from hoping it’ll happen, does it? But hey, if/when they’re not involved you’ll be able to say you told us so. Good for you! November 29, 2011 at 8:49 pm #113459 AlexParticipant Well, aren’t you just Mr. Piss-on-your-chips. Ah, the character from the x-rated version of Catchphrase. November 29, 2011 at 9:20 pm #113460 JoParticipant I lolled :oP November 29, 2011 at 9:33 pm #113461 Ben PaddonParticipant High hopes are the key ingredient in a disappointment soufflĂ©. Case in point: Series VIII. I’m excited, but I’m keeping my expectations low. November 30, 2011 at 1:41 am #113470 pfmParticipant > Ah, the character from the x-rated version of Catchphrase. Best ever late-night catchphrase… ‘Built Like A Brick Shithouse?’ ‘Riiiiiiiiiight!’ (squares disappear, audience flinches ‘urrrgh’) :P December 1, 2011 at 1:51 am #113484 clemParticipant > I’m excited, but I’m keeping my expectations low. I’m trying to. I’d rather the series continued in the same vein as BTE than returned to anything like VIII, so the fact that VIII is the only Dwarf we’ve got thus far that was written by Naylor without Grant, with a studio audience in mind, is a bit worrying. So is Danny’s Duane Dibbley tweet. On the other hand, listening again to the Dimension Jump DwarfCasts, Doug’s ideas for X as regards character development etc. sound really promising. Regardless of how the series eventually turns out, I can’t help but be excited about actually going to a recording. Whatever happens, January 27th is gonna be a stupendous moment in my own personal history. December 1, 2011 at 8:27 am #113486 Paul MullerParticipant Hold your horses. I mean, Duane Dibbley shows up in Back to Reality, which I expect a lot of you would place as a pretty high ranking episode. And he also appears in Series 6, which personally, is my favourite series. Even if Doug’s putting him in RDX, it doesn’t necessarily follow that the episode concerned, or the series as a whole, will be shit. True, I’d rather eat my own eyeballs than see that character on screen again, but there’s still potential for it not to be a disaster. December 1, 2011 at 10:20 am #113487 Pete Part ThreeParticipant It’s not that we don’t like Duane (when used effectively, like in Back to Reality and, to a lesser extent, Emohawk, he’s great); it’s more that it signifies a reliance on ideas that are twenty years old and have been wrung dry of any humour by repeatedly relying on them as guaranteed “crowd-pleasers” (“stick Danny in the wig and teeth and that’s 2 minutes of laughs in the bank”). Duane has gone as far as he can go and needs to be put out to pasture alongside Ace Rimmer, positive-viruses and shared hallucinations. Relying on the same old reliable stuff, is what fucks up Hollywood. December 1, 2011 at 10:31 am #113488 CarlitoParticipant ^ and AR. Especially AR where they don’t know they are in AR ^ December 1, 2011 at 12:42 pm #113489 Paul MullerParticipant Agree with you on that, it would be good to see some really original ideas in the new series, something on a par with Future Echoes, Backwards etc. It’s possible that Doug is worrying that it was these tried and tested gags and supporting characters that made the show so popular. Which I’d like to think is bollocks. Although I was casting a bemused eye over some old RD fan fiction the other day and the prevalence of Aces and Duanes was quite upsetting. December 1, 2011 at 8:05 pm #113491 RidleyParticipant Well I’m hopeful that the changes in the world since 1999 have inspired a bunch of new ideas. The ones dropped in the DwarfCast were spiffy. It’s not like the Back to Earth references to its past were unconscious (like Die Another Day and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull {there might be more well received examples}) but I said around the time that the first episode had me optimistic for Red Dwarf in the post-New Who world. Now just don’t give me a six-parter about Kryten needing to recharge his solar powered Peter feed. ;) December 1, 2011 at 9:10 pm #113492 danny fParticipant I really hope that my slight off-topic tangent will not offend, but I am a desperate man. On the off-chance that people have missed my thread… I have two tickets for December 16th recording which I would like to trade for two tickets on *ANY* other date. I am being forced to work on this date and I cannot get out of it. I will even offer a financial incentive if somebody is inconvenienced by the trade. Sorry to clog up this thread but time is slipping away and I am getting pretty down, thinking that I will have to miss this… Thanks, and sorry again. :) Author Posts Viewing 38 posts - 1 through 38 (of 38 total) Scroll to top • Scroll to Recent Forum Posts You must be logged in to reply to this topic.
