BBC Four schedule for Sunday 23rd:

7pm: Hancock’s Half Hour (“Twelve Angry Men”)

7.30pm: Just Good Friends (“After All This Time”)

9.20pm: ‘Allo! ‘Allo! (“The Gateau from the Chateau”)

    10.10pm: The Young Ones (“Bambi”)

    10.40pm: Red Dwarf (“Quarantine”)

11.10pm: I’m Alan Partridge (“Never Say Alan Again”)

11.40pm: Steptoe & Son (“Divided We Stand”)

12.10am: Till Death Us Do Part (“Min the Housekeeper”)

There are also similar schedules for every evening that week, typically with ten different shows on one night; sadly no sign of The Brittas Empire.

Frankly the idea that boosters aren’t universal is fucking appalling anyway. Most people’s immunity will be severely waning by now and there are no restrictions in place, is everyone just expected to be ok catching it this year or something?

Not just that, but the people who are more at risk would be better protected if everyone around them had the booster, not just people they live with etc

THIIIIIIISSSS except that would mean caring about the fact we live in a society, and the pushback against even the most basic precautions (masking and testing) and the glee with which they were dropped leaves us in no doubt where the prevailing priorities lie.

I’ll go through the questions again and see exactly what options it says.

As a general sentiment, I hope all of you cunts who are struggling at the moment are ok.

So, we watching this tonight? As long as we’ve calmed down from all the Doctor Who excitement by 10:40.

It feels a bit silly considering I last watched Quarantine LITERALLY LAST WEEK, but I can’t deny the novelty of watching Red Dwarf live on the BBC is alluring. Don’t think I’ve done it before.

Yeah I’m going to dust off the TV,  and actually make use of the licence I pay for and actually watch some live BBC tonight.

    Novelty innit.

    #278832

The above meme but it’s a TV License letter.

Don’t have a telly but I’ll be watching Who live on iPlayer. First time since Spyfall.

Hey, I don’t suppose anyone else has been experiencing image weirdness lately?

For my last reply, I first tried setting them as HTML images, but it kept displaying one or more of them as just the alt text when I loaded the page, then I tried updating them to ‘G&T’ links, but now it just never manages to show all of them on a single load.

Come to think of it, I’ve seen that a lot in other people’s image replies as well.

Yeah lately I’ve seen random broken links with certain images loading and others not, often within the same post.

Yeah I can’t see most image links now. When I was posting a meme the other day I replaced all the links with uploads because I couldn’t see the links.

    #278838

Plenty of blank images here lately, and a couple of errors on here and the smegadrive. 503s, I think?

    #278840

Yeah I’ve been having similar issues for a few days.

For what it’s worth, I stopped watching Doctor Who in 2011, and more than a decade later I still feel entirely vindicated in that decision. Barring anniversary specials, nothing has ever tempted me back. Not a single thing either Moff or Chibs have done. I’m even doubtful bringing back RTD at this late stage will do it for me, but I’d like to be proven wrong.

Moffat wrote some really cracking TV

Always, at the moment.  It got better for several months, come to think of it, but the past week or so it’s started again.

We have a new (well, new-to-us) large TV, I shall watch along and delight in the double novelty!

OK, not just me then. I wonder if the broken image links and the random “503 service unavailable” pages I keep getting are related.

Damn, you’ve missed quite a few all time great episodes, FP. Each to their own, of course, but you have created a kind of a catch-22 for yourself. The only way to know for sure that you were right to stop watching the show is to watch the episodes you missed.

Also… today’s episode was an anniversary special. Of the BBC not Doctor Who, yes, but a celebratory episode is a celebratory episode.

Anyway, having seen it, I feel vindicated in my suggestion that watching the special could create excitement.

If you’ve got any recommendations I’ll go check them out on iPlayer.

Sure. Top episodes for me were probably:

    – The Girl Who Waited (if you stopped after Series 6A and so didn’t see 6B)

    – Mummy on the Orient Express

    – Flatline

    – Face The Raven / Heaven Sent

    – Oxygen

    – World Enough and Time / The Doctor Falls

    – It Takes You Away

    – The Haunting of Villa Diodati

So, Quarantine was pretty good again! A relief to know it wasn’t just nostalgia for 13 days ago that made me think so.

However, I was a bit disappointed there was no bespoke continuity. Even the announcer saying the name of the programme would have been something.

Also, was the image stretched for everyone? I compared with the Blu ray afterwards just to be sure, and it was definitely wider. But maybe my TV was doing that, somehow.

Seemed correct aspect ratio for me.

(Gotta say it looked good on all 43″ of screen :D  my sister no longer needed it so gave it to us, and I am super chuffed to be able to see details from a few metres away again – especially Red Dwarf details!)

Have managed to update the BBC Broadcasts Guide *without* fucking the tables up more than they already are https://cwickham.blogspot.com/2016/12/the-red-dwarf-bbc-broadcasts-guide.html

Why did Only the Good randomly get an additional airing over all other VIII episodes?

I presume because both the premiere and the first repeat were bumped out of their usual slots by sports coverage

Given that my parents are in their 70s, my mum was recently hospitalised with heart failure, my girlfriend has ME and I have long Covid, I don’t feel too guilty about putting down that I live with vulnerable people.

Had it this morning. There are (a very few) reports of people recovering from long Covid after their booster as the increased antibodies fight off the remaining virus in the body that’s causing the prolonged symptoms so I’ve got my fingers massively crossed.

Oh by the way Flap Jack, I’m now having to watch through the entire Moffatt and Chibnall eras anyway, for reasons too convoluted to get into right now but that I’m sure you will find interesting when it all comes out, so my plan to give you my thoughts on the episodes you listed individually will take slightly longer than intended, as I’ll also be watching all the other episodes between them. I would’ve got around to them eventually but with everything that’s been going on I just haven’t had the opportunity, so I hope this will give me some motivation to get around to it.

Oh, OK, sure. Will be interesting to see how much or little you agree with those being the best episodes of their series.

Glad that you’ve chosen to experience the Moffat and Chibnall eras in their full, um, glory.

    Chosen, or been chosen?
