BBC news are currently saying it went as far north as Darlington, which is only up the road from me. I thought I was having a fit! My family were not impressed. At All. Shitting bricks in fact. Apparently there was a minor aftershock about 30 minutes from it. February 27, 2008 at 1:50 am #120881 Mr FlibbleParticipant Never felt the aftershock but did feel the original quake. We had one in August in Manchester, so I’m used to it now… I’m not sure scary is the word – let’s face it, it was only a minor tremor – it’s just a bit confusing as you think “hmm, why is my screen not staying still” and then wonder if it might be an earthquake. February 27, 2008 at 2:00 am #120882 GhostieParticipant It never felt minor where I live (Rotherham) – it felt bloody strong! February 27, 2008 at 2:13 am #120883 Michael WarrenParticipant http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsww/Quakes/us2008nyae.php I felt it. Not happened to me before. February 27, 2008 at 2:41 am #120885 pennyParticipant Am I the only one not to notice at all!? February 27, 2008 at 2:43 am #120886 Jonathan CappsKeymaster Scotland didn’t get it, I don’t think. It only went as far North as Darlo, apparently. February 27, 2008 at 8:18 am #120888 DaveParticipant Didn’t feel a thing February 27, 2008 at 9:51 am #120889 Ian SymesKeymaster Couldn’t feel it in Ealing. Either that or I slept through it. The one in Dudley a few years ago woke me up, though. February 27, 2008 at 10:25 am #120890 mickParticipant It knocked my room all over the shop and spilt my tea :( February 27, 2008 at 11:15 am #120893 BazParticipant Vaguely woken up during the night by odd rumbling noise, but I just thought it was my brother. I have experienced 3 earthquakes in the UK though, two in the 80s and that Birmingham one a few years back. THAT woke me up, and I was in Wiltshire at the time. February 27, 2008 at 12:53 pm #120899 mickParticipant Aparently it’s magnitude was 5.3 according to the British Geological Survey, last night News 24 were reporting it as a 4.6 and Sky news 4.8. “damage to homes and property is likely to be in excess of ?10 million” I was writing up a review for my website when it happened, and needless to say, I shat my pants. February 27, 2008 at 1:03 pm #120903 JonsmadParticipant I was watching an Indy movie on a projector and something blew up on screen as part of the film, and then the ground shook, and I briefly thought Blimey this Dolby 5.1 is amazing stuff. Now I think they should make all films in Richter 5.3 if only such a thing were possible. February 27, 2008 at 1:08 pm #120904 AnonymousGuest Didn’t feel a thing, although I live on Holloway Road and every time a bus goes past it feels like an earthquake. Me parents were shook up in Lincolsnhire, though. For some reason their first thought was that their radiators had exploded. That’s what it sounded like, apparently. February 27, 2008 at 2:41 pm #120907 Joey TORDFCParticipant Didn’t feel a blimmin’ thing. Why do Northerners get all the fun? :( February 27, 2008 at 2:56 pm #120911 Jonathan CappsKeymaster > Why do Northerners get all the fun? :( Cos we’re AWESOME. February 27, 2008 at 3:11 pm #120913 Danny StephensonKeymaster Gives us something else to moan about. February 27, 2008 at 3:39 pm #120914 BazParticipant Can’t be long before Yorkshire variants of this start appearing. http://www.messybeast.com/dragonqueen/dudleyquake.htm#dudley1 February 27, 2008 at 5:02 pm #120918 ChrisMParticipant I didn’t feel it. Not consiously anyway. I did sleep in late though, and I also had an uneasy dream (not that common for me I rarely remember my dreams, and when I do, they’re like vague thoughts. This time I wasn’t even aware I was dreaming.), Doesn’t necesarily have anything to do with the quake of course (in fact the dream wasn’t about that) but I wonder if the greater clariy and sense of unease was caused by my mind subconsciously registering the quake. My mind has incorporated real world stuff into my dreams before (i.e. radio etc.) Nah, thats likely rubbish. February 27, 2008 at 5:03 pm #120919 AnonymousGuest I had a dream that I was being raped by a piano. February 27, 2008 at 5:07 pm #120920 ChrisMParticipant That’s funny. I can’t remember my dream clearly (although it was quite vivid at the time) but it was something to do with an ‘other presence’, a spirit or demon of some kind. Weird thing is, I had an idea my bed was located where it used to be as a kid. (i.e. same room different wall.) Dream likely caused as much by the James Herbert book I’m currently reading as the earth quake though. The Secret of Crickley Hall, a ghost story. Not that scary but the sleeping mind can take ideas and blow them up somehow… February 27, 2008 at 5:24 pm #120924 mickParticipant >I had a dream that I was being raped by a piano. What a coincidence! I had a dream I was being sodomised by Sam Neill. February 27, 2008 at 6:34 pm #120926 pfmParticipant I was having a wank. It helped, actually. February 27, 2008 at 11:05 pm #120928 Smeg4BrainsParticipant > I was having a wank. It helped, actually. You’re so wrong……..but yet so right. > It never felt minor where I live (Rotherham) – it felt bloody strong! Hey, i’m from Rotherham too. And your right it did feel FUCKGING strong. February 27, 2008 at 11:23 pm #120931 Ben PaddonParticipant Just typical. I move to California, and then England has a bloody Earthquake! I have to say, I’m rather disappointed. February 27, 2008 at 11:53 pm #120935 AlParticipant I was watching some random stuff on my massive (and soon to be discovered, wobbly) telly when I felt the first big rumble, like a big bang, and thought “Ah this is a bit like what happened in 2002, I bet therell be an earthquake in a second”, and sure enough, the house trembled all over the shop. Wasnt anywhere near as cool as the one in 2002 though. I live right near Birmingham, so I copped a good heft of it that time! February 28, 2008 at 12:43 am #120937 DaveParticipant >For some reason their first thought was that their radiators had exploded. That?s what it sounded like, apparently Maybe that’s how Richter came up with his scale. February 28, 2008 at 1:05 pm #120948 siParticipant Sat watching Sky Sports News at five to one – freaked us out something rotten. Our Tom was running around for half an hour or so, although my Dad never even got up from his chair… February 29, 2008 at 1:38 am #120983 John HoareParticipant Just typical. I move to California, and then England has a bloody Earthquake! I have to say, I?m rather disappointed. Yes, the one time something interesting happens, and I’m out of the fucking country too. Typical. Author Replies Viewing 28 replies - 1 through 28 (of 28 total) Scroll to top • Scroll to Recent Forum Posts You must be logged in to reply to this topic.
