The Big Breakfast had an interview which used a Remastered clip, too. Actually, remember the ‘What happened next?’ bits before and after the break on The Big Breakfast? They did Red Dwarf a few times – I specifically remember them using the crash scene from Psirens. I also remember Snap, Crackle and Pop – their entertainment strand – reviewing Smeg Ups as well. Don’t suppose anyone has any of those? Long shot, I know… February 12, 2008 at 2:27 pm #120387 DaveParticipant >?the funding is all in place now? Since that money has been sitting around for ten years now just gaining interest, the movie must be just around the corner… February 12, 2008 at 2:30 pm #120389 Pete Part ThreeParticipant Don’t phone in, it’s just for fun! Wasn’t Craig going to be a presenter of TBB shortly before his arrest? February 12, 2008 at 2:33 pm #120391 Danny StephensonKeymaster I dont think I had the INTERNET when Big Breakfast was on. What truly superb morning telly that made. February 12, 2008 at 2:46 pm #120393 John HoareParticipant The Big Breakfast was stupendous. It did lose something once Chris and Gaby had both left, and I was never really a fan of the Denise and Johnny era like many people were – but at its best, it was wonderfully made telly, that had a fun about it that most programmes don’t even attempt to do any more. (Oddly enough, the Big Brother spin-off shows – Little Brother especially – seem about the closest in spirit to it these days. And even then they’re too worried about trying to be vaguely trendy, rather than being big, bright, colourful and stupid.) And it would still work today. All you need is a couple of great presenters who are willing to get up at that time of the morning. Dermot O’Leary would be FANTASTIC AT IT. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIPbkOSH8Iw February 12, 2008 at 3:15 pm #120398 Pete Part ThreeParticipant It was a show that depended completely on who was presenting it. Chris and Gaby were great, Johnny (with Denise or Liza) was brilliant. There were a lot of people who were awful though. Paul Tonkinson, Donna Air, Sharon Davies for example. >http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIPbkOSH8Iw Awesome. >Dermot O?Leary would be FANTASTIC AT IT. Didn’t C4 try this with Morning Glory? February 12, 2008 at 3:19 pm #120399 John HoareParticipant Yes, once you get the presenters, you’re 90% there with that format. I never saw Morning Glory. Any good? February 12, 2008 at 3:27 pm #120400 Pete Part ThreeParticipant Never saw it either, I’m afraid. It was only on for about two weeks but it was an extension of Little Brother so I guess the style would be quite similar to The Big Breakfast. February 12, 2008 at 3:43 pm #120401 Danny StephensonKeymaster > Morning Glory Trust Channel 4 to come up with a cock joke first thing in the morning. I was thinking about this the other day – things like Going Live used to be just fun programmes – you’d often hear the crew laughing with everyone else, no-one really took it that seriously and it was just a way to pass a couple of hours. You just don’t get that these days, and it’s truly missed… February 13, 2008 at 9:39 am #120426 AnonymousGuest >I was thinking about this the other day – things like Going Live used to be just fun programmes – you?d often hear the crew laughing with everyone else, no-one really took it that seriously and it was just a way to pass a couple of hours. You just don?t get that these days, and it?s truly missed? I absolutely agree. I saw an interview with Trevor and Simon recently and they said that when they were briefed by the heads of the Beeb about the kind of material they should prepare for Going Live, they were told “don’t worry about aiming it at or appealing to the kids…just make sure it’s funny and not excessively offensive.” Can’t imagine that happening these days. I think kids know when they’re being patronised and they can appreciate comedy on more levels than many assume…which is why I adored Blackadder and Red Dwarf when I was a nipper. I think I probably would have found so-called “anarchic” stuff like Dick and Dom patronising when I was a sprog. Do they even have kid’s telly on Saturday mornings any more? Can?t imagine that happening these days. I think kids know when they?re being patronised and they can appreciate comedy on more levels than many assume?which is why I adored Blackadder and Red Dwarf when I was a nipper. I totally agree. It’s a shame Trev and Simon went off-form a bit by the end – when they started, they were brilliant in every possible way. I wish more of their stuff was commercially released – there’s a huge body of work that’s never likely to be shown again. (I think they should show hilights of Going Live! late-night BBC THREE, personally. It’d be far better than most of the crap they put on, and I think it’d get the viewers.) I think I probably would have found so-called ?anarchic? stuff like Dick and Dom patronising when I was a sprog. Aw, I like Dick and Dom a lot – and I think their stuff was about just doing what they found funny too, rather than talking down to the kids. In Da Bungalow was like old-school Saturday morning telly for me, although I didn’t watch it enough as I was never up… Do they even have kid?s telly on Saturday mornings any more? On BBC TWO, yes – including Basil’s Swap Shop. Which I can’t comment on, not having seen it – it sounds like a great idea, but unfortunately the recent Basil Brush Show revival was excerable. February 13, 2008 at 2:20 pm #120441 BazParticipant >the recent Basil Brush Show revival was excerable OOOOO! You’re not like this when we play shuttlecock together Mr John! But yes, it was nothing like as good as the original, considerably toned down. It had to be really, the amount of smut and innuendo that went on above the heads of the kiddies was amazing (and still makes the orginal very very funny). February 13, 2008 at 2:41 pm #120443 John HoareParticipant OOOOO! You?re not like this when we play shuttlecock together Mr John! I belive the phrase is “boom boom”. But yes, it was nothing like as good as the original, considerably toned down. It had to be really, the amount of smut and innuendo that went on above the heads of the kiddies was amazing (and still makes the orginal very very funny). Plus they turned Basil into a smug, snide twat. February 13, 2008 at 4:35 pm #120449 AnonymousGuest Talking of kid’s TV these days, I must say that In The Night Garden is the televisual equivalent of a cross between Lysergic acid diethylamide and morphine. It’s incredible. February 13, 2008 at 4:47 pm #120450 BazParticipant Yes, it is sort of Telly Tubbies on acid (same creator). Narrated by David Jacobi too. Always thought Telly tubbies showed a great way forward in illumination technology, burning baby heads! February 13, 2008 at 7:18 pm #120460 Ian SymesKeymaster Also, Lee Evans is like Norman Wisdom… on acid. February 13, 2008 at 8:22 pm #120462 Joey TORDFCParticipant Dick and Dom are ace. Morning Wood? Brilliant. February 13, 2008 at 9:43 pm #120466 Danny StephensonKeymaster Norman Wisdom? on acid. That’s quite interesting, that Norman has an ‘N’ that goes like that, like an N like an N like an N, N. N. Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn… I laugh at In The Night Garden without having to take any drugs… That worries me. February 14, 2008 at 12:20 am #120480 peas_and_cornParticipant One thing he was right about in the interview- he didn’t get funny lines in series 8. February 14, 2008 at 8:37 am #120493 Pete Part ThreeParticipant Dick and Dom are like Bill and Ben, the Flowerpot Men…on drugs. February 14, 2008 at 11:46 pm #120522 Danny StephensonKeymaster not on Weed then? February 17, 2008 at 4:02 am #120580 pfmParticipant Something else that made me laugh out loud – I Met Chris Barrie! The tie… and naturally quotes like ‘I was doing a corporate for Allied Dunbar…’ spring to mind!
