Holy shit! LucasArts are re-releasing a Special Edition of the original Monkey Island for the PC and Xbox 360!

Holy shit! TellTale Games are releasing a new series of five Monkey Island games!

I’ve been a massive fan of Telltale since they started, and they just keep shocking me with all these announcements, getting awesomer and awesomer with each one. Sam and Max, Strong Bad, Wallace and Gromit and now this. If they do Day of the Tentacle and Red Dwarf I think I’d just melt.

Wow, thanks so much for posting this. Unbelieveably, I’m currently in the process of writing a Monkey Island article for the p2p blog. Just installed CMI again last week – the first instance of me actually wearing a CD out – had to buy a new one(!)

I’m reigning back my excitement for the new “episodes” as I have no experience with TellTale Games, but I’ll be interested to see how the redone SMI turns out.

A straight remake to take advantage of newer technology isn’t always a bad thing. Look at all those classic Sierra adventures that were later updated to crisp VGA graphics. Or…SMI actually. Hmm.

They’re absolutely brilliant. You can download an entire episode of Sam and Max for free on their website, trust me, you won’t be disappointed. ;)

This also. The Lost Vikings II remake was just a graphical upgrade, which looked gorgeous and had stellar voice acting. Compare that to Tomb Raider: Anniversary, which is a full “re-imagining”… *shudder*

In all seriousness I’ll be interested to see the MI remake (not least because the voice actor for Guybrush is ace) but some of those clips just sound wrong to me. I have all the voices I need for them in my beautiful head.

And Telltale have done nothing but underwhelm me, mainly because they’re taking on projects that have been done to near perfection in the past and there’s no way in hell their versions can ever feel worthwhile enough. Telltale’s 3D point and clicky engine is *lovely* and they can clearly make a game look wonderful, but… Monkey Island 4 totally stunk the place up so I’d already hopes the series would be left well alone, and I really can’t see Telltale bringing it back to even near its best.

That’ll be the second game, LeChuck’s Revenge. You mix a Yellow Beard’s Baby with a Blue Whale to make a Green… Spit-Thickener.

…And always use a crazy straw to drink it, too. :-))

I didn’t laugh during the new trailer, but during the retrospective one I did; the screenshot above raised a smile as well.

Similarly I lost interest in the new Sam and Max episodes at the beginning of Season 2.

I imagine it’s not just me?

Try the rest of Season Two – Moai Better Blues is admittedly rather dull, but Night of the Raving Dead is hilarious, Chariots of the Dogs is one of the best time-travel plots I’ve ever experienced and What’s New Beezlebub is chock-full of great continuity porn.

Can I say I love MI4? Okay, I’ll admit the controls are an abomination, but it makes me laugh. Now I know how John feels about Series VIII: It’s far from perfect, but it’s still funny. Note that I don’t feel that way about Series VIII. :O
