    Doubt it.

    a) maybe Doug doesn’t care about playing with the real-world continuity of Dwarf because he doesn’t think (or knows, depending on the ending of Pt 3) that there will ever be another series, therefore it won’t matter
    b) the universe they are in now on Back to Earth isn’t OUR universe anyway (as we have no series IX or X) so the branch off point could literally be anywhere between the moment series VIII ended, right up to the moment IX was debuted in the BtE universe… therefore any series IX that WE get could easily pick up that ‘Only The Good’ cliffhanger if he so wished ;)
    c) any new series of Red Dwarf will still be called Red Dwarf IX, and won’t be bound to follow the established events because it’s Red Dwarf, where continuity is just a word used by anal freaks.

Why treat the real world any better than the disregard for in-series continuity!!

what if part 3 ends as a final episode? a proper full ending to the whole show :O

with the idea that a 10 could be made but it would have to be a prequel

I’ve mentioned this a bit in the official site chat, but I’ll explain fully here. Another series would be great, and whether it’s before, after or next to BtE for me is quite irrelevant, as I really don’t care about resolving OTG- I just want some good Dwarf, which is IMO what we’re getting with BtE. So in that light I fully support the idea of another series whatever it is labelled- IX, X or XI. Doesn’t really matter to me.

However, there is always a question in the back of my head- IF BtE is rendered not the last episode with the hypothetical signing of another series, when should the show end? BtE seems like it’s heading towards a great conclusion, and if that was it I would be quite satisfied. However, if more was made, how many series would be made before Doug says “I’ve done enough, the show is done”? The show can’t be made for ever, so how should it be determined that the show is “finished”?
