Anyway should any of you wonderfully sexy people be interested I’ll be at the UK Web & Mini Comix Thing on Saturday. It’s in the Great Hall of Queen Mary University in Mile End, London. Admission is £3, and I’ll be selling comics, tee-shirts, and not a lot else because my order of badges was delayed and won’t get to my Mum’s place until the Monday afterwards. Bastards. Give us notice, boy. March 20, 2008 at 3:06 pm #121813 PhilParticipant Give me notice, too, so’s I can hide in yer luggage. March 20, 2008 at 3:13 pm #121814 RidleyParticipant 80 Available 81 Jump Leads 82 Available Somebody’s antisocial March 20, 2008 at 5:33 pm #121821 Danny StephensonKeymaster Jumpleads for two? Can do. March 20, 2008 at 5:58 pm #121822 Ben PaddonParticipant I was actually the first person to book a table. I was given the choice of the entire hall, and I just told the organisers to put me where they want me (arf). Apologies for the poor amount of notice, incidentally – I try to avoid plugging my own stuff on forums because it seems a little silly, but it occurred to me today that seeing as we’re all fans of the same stuff (and given that Red Dwarf was a huge inspiration for me) that you might be interested. But anyway. March 20, 2008 at 7:40 pm #121823 PhilParticipant I think John’s specifically said (somewhere…) that he doesn’t mind people posting links/news of their own achievements or projects as long as they’re actually regular posters or contributors to this site. So unless he pops up to say otherwise, don’t be so shy next time. It looks like you would have had a few G+T visitors if they’d have had notice! March 20, 2008 at 8:13 pm #121824 Ben PaddonParticipant Well, to coin a phrase, “Whoops.” I guess I’ll not be quite so modest next time. Still, considering my next convention is likely to be in the States is it worth announcing it here? How many people would come out to Bumfuck, AZ to see me sign a comic? March 20, 2008 at 8:47 pm #121825 PhilParticipant Come to the same town in Florida and I’ll be there. March 20, 2008 at 10:06 pm #121828 Jonathan CappsKeymaster I love that you’re using Yorkshire slang when describing your coming to England from fucking California, Ben. Ah well, I’ve just watched a program about how you’re going to fall into a SPLIT IN THE EARTH, so I’ll take the cold for now! If I was still living in London town I’d be there in a flash to say hi and have a peek at your wares. Unfortunately I’m in Yorkshire, now. Chuff. March 21, 2008 at 1:01 am #121836 DaveParticipant >Jumpleads for two? Can do. So the fella?s standing there?as I say, we don?t normally go to such entertainments, but as I say this one was really super! The fella?s standing there and he?s got a Robin Hood outfit ? he?s got the leggings and the tunic, and the bow and arrow and the feather on his head! And as I say, he?s playing all the parts himself?so he?s the stag that Robin Hood fires his blooming arrow at, and he?s going hell for leather with the antlers! And there?s Robin Hood chasing after him AND his Merry Men?and he?s got the bow and arrow poised and he?s got the feather coming out the top of his hat! And he fires the blooming arrow and he?s shot of course! As I say, we don?t normally go to these kinds of things. It loses a little in translation, but? March 21, 2008 at 1:03 am #121837 DaveParticipant I can’t make it, but I would’ve liked to. March 21, 2008 at 12:20 pm #121848 Ben PaddonParticipant CAPPSY! I love that you?re using Yorkshire slang when describing your coming to England from fucking California, Ben. Fun Fact: I’m originally from England. Shocking, I know! I’m not from Yorkshire mysel – born in Milton Keynes, raised in Luton, and somehow I’ve managed to not grow up into Chavvery – but my Uncle is and I picked up a lot of slang from him as a young’n. That and if you hang out on the official forum for Team 17 Software you tend to absorb a lot of the slang the Teamsters use. March 21, 2008 at 2:25 pm #121849 Tanya JonesParticipant I lived in Milton Keynes from 1982-1985. My fondest memory of the place is hiding in the gaps in the girders holding up the shopping centre :) I love the idea behind the town, but it’s a real shame it didn’t really work out (i.e. the Redways becoming notorious for attacks on women, although I think that’s been cracked down on now). March 21, 2008 at 3:25 pm #121852 Danny StephensonKeymaster Unfortunately I?m in Yorkshire, now. Chuff. THERE’S NOWT CHUFF WI’ YORKSHIRE, LAD!! March 21, 2008 at 9:02 pm #121860 Seb PatrickKeymaster Tanya, Ben – have you ever seen Superman IV? March 21, 2008 at 9:20 pm #121861 AndrewParticipant > Tanya, Ben – have you ever seen Superman IV? *Sniggers* March 22, 2008 at 6:30 pm #121865 Tanya JonesParticipant Erm…no. March 22, 2008 at 6:42 pm #121867 Jonathan CappsKeymaster It comes highly recommended from me. It’s legendary for being utterly awful but – without wanting to sound like a prick who only enjoys things ‘ironically’ – it’s brilliant precisely because of its awfulness. It’s filmed (quite obviously) in Milton Keynes posing as New York and suffers from a severe lack of budget in every single frame, but that just gives it this fantastic charm. We all watched it back when me and Seb were in Northfield Ave. and it was of the most joyous group film watching experiences I’ve ever had. It’s FAR more enjoyable than Superman III, which is just a big load of shit disparately clinging on to the opinion that it’s brilliant. March 22, 2008 at 7:58 pm #121868 Seb PatrickKeymaster Er, yeah. What Cappsy said. Also, the Agony Booth’s dissection of it is tremendous fun, and responsible for coining the phrase “masonry vision”. Also : Mac MacDonald! You like the Agony Booth too? I’m a member of their messageboard. March 22, 2008 at 8:12 pm #121870 Seb PatrickKeymaster Heh, cool. Yeah, I can’t remember how I discovered them, but their recaps of Superman III and IV, and especially the one for Batman & Robin, are some of my very favourite things in the history of the internet. I wish they updated a bit more often, although I appreciate what a mammoth task the recaps are! Although – Evil Superman fight. Which is a wonderful thing surrounded by a crap film. March 23, 2008 at 12:38 am #121872 Jonathan CappsKeymaster Aye, ok, I’ll give it that. I don’t suppose you’ve seen the one for Eragon, did you? That one’s not bad either. And they just updated with Battlefield Earth, which looks either painful or hilarious to watch… March 23, 2008 at 12:46 pm #121878 Danny StephensonKeymaster Wasn’t Battlefield Earth based on the story of the guy who created Scientology? Edit: Yes it was, but only the first half of the book he wrote… March 23, 2008 at 12:50 pm #121879 Arlene Rimmer BSc SScParticipant >Wasn?t Battlefield Earth based on the story of the guy who created Scientology? It was based on part of a big ‘ol sci-fi novel written by the guy who later went on to found Scientology, yes. John Travolta’s into Scientology, so this was sort of his big Vanity Project, or so I’m led to understand. March 25, 2008 at 4:33 pm #121925 Ben PaddonParticipant Superman III and IV do not exist.
