So it aledgedly has a smaller fan base than dwarf (or it’d be outselling it on DVD eh?) and ‘BBC Films’ decide to fund a damn film? Can someone explain to me how this remotely makes sense after the BBC’s refusal to fund a RD film??

Now I understand some people may find the show incredibly funny (my brother is one of them), but personally I find it totally unfunny shite and can’t understand how in gods name its still on the air, never mind a film being made of it??? But hey maybe I’m just getting old.

Seems like another attempt by the Beeb to appear ‘young hip and trendy’ and not as it actually is ( an incontentant 70 year old with a walking frame who dribbles alot and rarely makes sense.)

The Mighty Boosh film will have a minute budget compared the Dwarf film. It’s also complete shit, obviously, but it goes some way to explain why the BBC would be prepared to fund it.

I borrowed the Boosh DVDs from a friend. I don’t love it, I don’t hate it. But I can’t watch two episodes back to back without really losing interest, so 90 minutes would destroy me.

Yeah, the thing to remember with the Dwarf film is that it has a huge budget for an independent British film. In fact, I can’t remember seeing any British film without backing from an American studio that cost anywhere near ?12m to make. It’s *that* that’s the problem.

(I do wonder whether something good could have been made for less money, mind you. But I suppose Doug has a vision, and if you can’t make that vision come to life, it might be best not to do it at all. And it’s fair to say the higher the budget, the more chance the film has of breaking through to a mainstream audience, which is essential for it to make back any money at all.)

The trouble with the Dwarf film has always been that it’s beyond the $10m of an independent film, but under the $30m of an entry-level franchise flick. It’s like a novella is to a publisher – neither one nor the other, and nobody knows how to deal with it.

Well maybe Doug should have gone for the $30m treatment then. Nah sod it, go the whole hog, $100m! This would cover Danny’s suits for the film at least.

BBC Film quote “With an annual budget of ?9 million, BBC Films makes a minimum of six films per year with budgets generally up to ?10 million. A wide variety of films made with a particular link to new talent.”

Like the comparison between Brittas and that office guy, you can’t judge them together.

I can’t see Dwarf being made for under 10 million can you?

No, although ?12 million isn’t far off ?10 million, and it does say “generally”.

I think it’s sad that BBC Films didn’t offer some of the funding. They’re obviously under no obligation, but it’s still a shame.

The funding is out there, but not in enough quantity.

Boosh. current 3rd Series, Live shows.

    Dwarf. last show?

The economics are too risky. I hate that fact, I’m sure every Red Dwarf fan does.

DOUG: (into phone) Hello? (pause) (in disbelief) How much?
DUKE: (into phone) Sixty million dollars. I mean, do you want it all, or
    would something less be OK?
DOUG: (into phone) Well, erm, yeah, no, we could probably make a great film for around twenty million. But thinking about it, maybe sixty million could be the way to go. (pause) Yeah, no, sixty million is definitely the way to go.

I literally have Kylie in my house right now. She’s ‘vouching for me’ as I type this, if you know what I mean.
