I know…I just saw that. Most intriguing. Personally I think that Dave was already interested in doing a new series on the premise that the viewing figures of BTE were good, but that may be my Friday-inspired sunny optimisim shining through…

Red Dwarf, Series IX, has a nice ring to it.

It’ll be announced at Dimension Jump. Let’s hope Doug is already getting some ideas together for some episodes.

I’m sure he’ll still have Red Dwarf stories to tell. Personally I would like the Rimmer’s son angle to come into play, even if it’s completely different to the book. With BtE being a strong Lister episode methinks Arnold needs some attention. Also, could we finally get a Cat episode??

I think the first story to be told is the Kochanski/Lister situation, I wouldn’t actually be opposed to them getting together, I mean it will be nice for Lister to be happy.

But finally getting them together would remove one of his prime motivators, so while it would be nice for him to be happy it would be a disaster for the character.

I don’t think it would ruin the show though, if anything it would give more potential for comedy, imagine that they were making Series VI now and they said that Red Dwarf would be gone, how would we react to that, I mean the main setting gone! But it made one of the best Series in the history of Dwarf.

I think Doug has now set it up nicely so the whole show could end with Lister finding Kochanski, whether this would be at the end of the next (possible) series or further down the line.

I think the search for Kochanski is far more interesting than him finding her …. the fact that she is out there, and theoretically obtainable, as opposed to during series I-VI when she was completely unattainable (being slightly dead).

Character is all about motivation, and this a strong one for Lister. If he gets the girl then you’ve got to provide him with another goal … and I don’t think getting back to earth is strong enough reason anymore, having been done in various forms already.

I’d love to see Starbug in a new series. And I’d love to see more of the stories that only Dwarf can do as a sitcom leading Red Dwarf to deliver jokes that only it can deliver.

I do hope we see Starbug, I love that little ship.

It’s more wanting to see a ship-to-surface vessel. If a new one was introduced in the new series I’d be just as happy because we could see a set that’s new to the show and the Dwarfer’s would be able to do more and, more importantly, have a cockpit scene or two. I did love the starbug sets though.

    White Midget.

The sets of Series VI are my favourite.

Also my favourite. And yes White Midget did spring to mind. Would love the “used future” look to carry on in any new ship sets rather than have everything look like the cold, sterile new bunk room. It was beautifully made but didn’t feel very dwarf and seemed a bit cold.

    New Drive Room, perhaps?

    ‘Infinity’ as a series please!!!!

‘Infinity’ was mostly an expansion of the story told in the show, well told in a much funnier and interesting way to the show but still. I think if Doug is to turn a book into a show it would be ‘Last Human’, which would work rather well overall though I don’t think the budget could stretch to the scope of the novel, all those rogue droids, all those Gelf, all that sperm.

I think TOS has been down since about 1969, they did make those 6 films too though.
