Question about the audiobooks

Is there an unabridged version of Backwards on the market? Because mine is missing the Gunmen section.

Also, I thought that the audio version of Last Human was unabridged having not noticed any difference between the novel and the audiobook. But somebody has just bamboozled me by claiming that the Audio Book had a section from the novel missing….and didn’t say which section it was. Buggered if I can remember!

Nah, both Backwards and Last Human are abridged. I don’t think any unabridged version exist, unfortunately.

If I remember correctly, Last Human completely omits the section based on DNA.

I think the audiobook of Last Human is better without the DNA stuff. That was some serious shoe horning!

The Gunmen stuff in Backwards maybe would have been best kept in but the best part of Backwards by far is Ace.

The way they kill Rimmer in the abridged version is rubbish. Abridged versions are rubbish.

Cheers for that. Now I will have to see if I can get more than 3 paragraphs into a book without nodding off. Something I haven’t managed to do in about 10 years!!

I have versions of all 4 books that are each several hours long; I didn’t think they were abridged. I’ll have to listen to Backwards again for the Gunmen bit to see if it’s there. (I do remember having to hear about tired Spanners’ erection in Bongo’s line of sight and thinking *Well, I like me some slash, but this is a bit detailed …*)

I have both the unabridged and abridged versions of IWCD. I tried following the book with the abridged one once, and it kinda sucks to have stuff taken out.

I don’t think IWCD is unabridged in any form. The bit that stands out is were we go into the mind of a plant after being shot (a bit of a Douglas Adams moment). Goes into how McIntyre (I think he is called McIntyre in the book) became a hologram (loan debts meant he decided to commit suicide).

The McIntyre bit is in the Unabridged…but I can’t remember about the plant

The abridged IWCD omits all the Me2 parts and cat and Lister off mining….and the death of all the Skutters. Also cuts out a lot from Lister’s life in hell borrowing Hopper’s and returning them and that.

The unabridged Infinity is definitely properly unabridged – I remember reading the book along with the tapes when I was little. I have no idea why. They do have Joe Klumpp instead of Kevin Keegan, though, I seem to recall.

(I’ve been re-listening as recently as late last week, in fact. My favorite bit is Cat’s “YOOHOO!!” scream upon spotting the Nova 5, as I try to imagine Chris’s face and movements while doing it.)

The only unabridged versions of the first two novels for download are on audible. As far as I know. Chris reading Last Human and Backwards unabridged – I’d definitely buy those!
