As we’ve now had 2 weeks of the Difficult Daily, I thought it might be prudent to move discussions of the day’s puzzle and our scores to a dedicated thread, so we’re not just bloating the comments of the “Reintroducing Smegle” post all the time. Let that be for more general feedback (or bug reports).

And of course, if you get any share-worthy frames in Casual Continuous, feel free to post those here too!

Somewhat tricky, but once I’d got the right series I felt confident I could narrow it down enough not to fail.

Also, what do you think: should this thread be spoiler-free, or not? I’m leaning towards not – because I generally prefer to do the Difficult Daily myself before hearing about others’ scores anyway, and it would be cool to speak openly without having to wait until the next day – but only if there’s consensus on it.

I did think it might be Promised Land initially, forgetting about the other deserty Dave episode, the correct one, then convinced myself it wasn’t that and went for Give & Take for some reason, then got XI and XII muddled up again and went for M-Corp. Then it was obvious.

I thought M-Corp initially, then Officer Rimmer. Both with lots of white in places. Was only getting the series did I then get the episode with that third reveal.

That third reveal clinched it. I remember all the excitement about that shot ahead of broadcast so it’s a memorable one for me.

This bastard turned up on Casual Continuous mode today.

Any guesses? It took me until the fourth try just to identify the right series.

A shelf protruding from a white wall? A quick shot of a cabinet someone’s about to open? Do any episodes have really minimalist interiors aside from M-Corp? I’d try BTE and TPL, since they’re a bit exotic. No idea.

The rectangle at the bottom is throwing me, too. I can only see it as a transitional state for a computer screen of some sort… maybe.

I’m just going to guess Holoship, why not.

I think you must be on the right track with the computer screen, as the episode is Cassandra. But even after knowing that, I can’t think which bit it’s from.

(With the disclaimer that I can’t remember whole swathes of VIII as I almost never rewatch it.)

I guess the rectangle was a visual glitch in one of the frames of the plug explosion that didn’t make it into the Smega-Drive? (The still images part of the Smega-Drive anyway; I know all the frames must be “there” for gif-making purposes.)

Already used mine to sync up with the DwarfCast commentaries. 😉 

Funnily enough if I hadn’t done my recent DwarfCast marathon, I probably would have struggled a lot more on today’s DD. Despite the hype around the model shot, I had completely forgotten that Twentica featured Starbug crashing in the desert in the daytime – until I rewatched with the G&T commentary. It’s just so aesthetically disconnected from the rest of the episode.

I remembered it being something that randomly happened in one of the opening episodes, so either Twentica or Cured, but I’d already ruled out XII.

Also I ought to have got it in 3, but even after recognising the scene my mind just went blank trying to recall the context… until I had one more guess.

Second square I actually thought of Tony Hawks appearing on the beach, but it was the correct episode, so…

weirdly I went with Terrorform first, as I thought it might be one of the Rimmer’s as rising from the dead as the end. At least that’s were the pink jacket type shape took me. Then once the jacket square was revealed immediately saw it as the news reader. 

Somewhat annoyed I didn’t think Backwards first as that makes more sense. But knowing the colours of the squares might not really relate to what’s on the screen now I’m ending up with weird ideas.
