I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on the BBC’s preferred alternative to Red Dwarf in 2006, Hyperdrive.

    Hyperdrive

Anything but episode 1 with the gross hand licking, I’ve already watched that one twice over the years and failed to progress further.

I’d also enjoy expanding ‘Dwarf-adjacent’ from personnel connections to “you might also like” thematic links, depending on what they’re actually interested in covering (Hitchhikers, Futurama, Sonic, whatever).

Do it, that cellophane might be worth something one day.

Dave showed Hyperdrive for a little while. I guess no one watched it because they don’t show it anymore.

Similar to Red Dwarf, Hyperdrive boast record breaking figured of Dave.  However it’s because no-one tuned in .  So extraordinarily bad is it, that even the TX guys put something else on, putting the viewing figures of the entire run of Hyperdrive on Dave into negative figures.

My copy of the Hyperdrive DVD was gifted to me by the writers and is signed by Nick Frost. Thus I win.

    #271542

Even the writers don’t want a copy! Presumably the signature was to increase its value to £0.00

Thread should have been called ‘Idea for a dwarfcast’. You could guarantee a few thousand replies then.

Dwarffast: Ian, Cappsy and Danny do a commentary on every film in the Fast and Furious series, played consecutively, fuelled only by curry and Leopard Lager.

Find old magazine articles and talk about them on Dwarfcast. you would be surprised by the information thats been forgotten about over time or how the cast felt about various things in those years. It be worth a discussion :)

IS IT GOOD, OR IS IT SPIT?

G&T land a once in a lifetime licencing deal for DwarfCasts to be played on British Airways flights. The agreement also permits them to print excerpts from the Idea for an episode. forum thread in the in-flight magazine.

    WORFCAST

Every scene in Star Trek featuring Worf is commentated on. Other scenes are skipped. As Danny and Cappsy have never watched Star Trek, this causes some confusion. Every episode features a reference to Patrick Stewart claiming Data wouldn’t exist without Kryten.

Much in the style of Critical Role or Harmontown, G&T runs an ongoing tabletop campaign of the Red Dwarf Roleplaying Game.

Or, like that Masterclass where Aaron Sorkin works through writing a hypothetical Season 5 of the West Wing in an alternate non-existent timeline where he didn’t leave after Season 4, a similar academic exercise where G&T’ers try to break episodes of the mythical “Series IX” discussed in Back to Earth and what it would have had to accomplish to be the “best series, best by miles” that Noddy refers to.

Or, more ambitiously, a food podcast where the G&T’ers actually give quiche a chance.

A Dwarf-inspired food Dwarfcast could be great actually. Trout a la Creme, beer milkshakes, a triple fried egg chili chutney sandwich, shami kebab diablo, kippers vindalooed, fresh strawberry waffles, a Toffee Crisp and an edible Pot Noodle. What a dinner party that would be.

When the G&T team run out of good ‘adjacent’ shows, commentaries for some of the oft-cited Red Dwarf influences could be good. Steptoe, Dark Star etc.

    MATHS IN THE DWARFCAST

Cappsy, Ian and Danny have recorded four new Dwarfcasts.

The Dwarfcast about the second issue of the Smegazine is longer than the commentary for Polymorph Remastered.

The Dwarfcast about Son of Cliche is shorter than the commentary for the first episode of A Prince Among Men.

The two commentaries are exactly the same length.

If the above statements are all true, which is the longest Dwarfcast?

The Smegazine Issue 2 DwarfCast is the longest, if it’s longer than 2 hours 28 minutes. Otherwise, DwarfCast 48 – 25th Anniversary Live Special is still the longest.

I’d also enjoy expanding ‘Dwarf-adjacent’ from personnel connections to “you might also like” thematic links, depending on what they’re actually interested in covering (Hitchhikers, Futurama, Sonic, whatever).

We’re only doing a Sonic Dwarfcast if I get to complain about Sonic 4 on it.

A League of Gentlemen DwarfCast would be great. “The late Don Henderson of Bulman fame” is mentioned in the cave guide monologue, so there’s your flimsy Red Dwarf connection.

I think the bloke who narrated the First Three Million Years documentary on Dave a couple of years ago has been in a couple of episodes of Doctor Who. You could try one or two of those if it’s not too vague a connection.

I tried to think of proper connections without resorting to IMDb, then eventually remembered the Real Ground Controller was in one of the charity shop sketches. There are probably more obvious ones.

This may sound like me taking the piss, but genuine idea for a Dwarfcast.

An episode of something Juliet May directed that isn’t Red Dwarf.

Maybe an episode of Morris Minor’s Marvellous Motors? Which as an extra Dwarf connection, stars Tony Hawks.

Astonishingly, the guest cast also includes Andy Serkis, Camille Coduri and Una Stubbs.
