December 10, 2008 at 3:28 pm #87396 ChrisMParticipant From little snippets I’ve read here and there, they’re taking the first 2 films as the basis. (Whilst adding a lot of their own interpretations of course, allowing for the fact that the future can be changed so things aren’t exactly the same. ) I think T3 remains part of the continuity though. December 10, 2008 at 4:04 pm #87398 Tarka DalParticipant I was totally with you up until the last line. December 10, 2008 at 4:05 pm #87397 pfmParticipant > I think T3 remains part of the continuity though. Well the guys who wrote T3 created the story for Salvation, and more than likely wrote the first draft of the screenplay. There’s no reason AT ALL why T3 should be disregarded. It’s a solid episode IMO. Not excellent but still worthy of comsideration. The array of talent involved with Salvation suggests it’s gonna be a decent film, whether it does the Terminator series justice or not. The script is by The Shield creator and Angel producer/writer, Shawn Ryan, along with Paul Haggis, writer of the last two Bond’s and one-time Due South creator, not to mention Flags Of Our Fathers, Million Dollar Baby and Crash scribe. The main cast all get my vote. Even Bryce Dallas Howard (she’s playing John’s wife, Katherine Brewster, well obviously she’s called Kate Connor here) who I think is still waiting for that one big thing to let her prove herself and boost her into the big time. Sam Worthington’s got an interesting year in 2009. Starring both in this and a little-known low budget art flick called Avatar. Though I’ve never seen him in anything there must be something that made Cameron go after him. Bale fits the role of John Connor pretty well. After all, he basically played an English version of him in Reign of Fire. He has the ability to up the credibility factor. Helena Bonham Carter is in this too. Even though she’s not down as playing her don’t you think it would be interesting if she was Sarah Connor, possibly in flashback? OR Sarah could still be alive. I reckon the way they played her ‘death’ in T3 allowed for that. OK, she had cancer, John saw that, but he never buried her, the Terminator had the info that her ashes were scattered by her ‘friends’ somewhere else, which always seemed lame to me. She’s probably been in hiding with Cameron…… December 10, 2008 at 4:17 pm #87399 ChrisMParticipant > I think T3 remains part of the continuity though. It?s a solid episode IMO. Oh, sure, I actually rather liked it. I didn’t mean that as a complaint, just a statement for those who disliked it. I wasn’t keen on the ‘it’s all predestined’ storyline, discounting the message of T2, and the Terminator seemed a bit of a parody of his previous incarnations, but it was a decent enough action flick with very cool robots. . Even Bryce Dallas Howard (she?s playing John?s wife, Katherine Brewster, well obviously she?s called Kate Connor here) Considering the film is set in 2018, I thought she looked a bit young. Not much older than the T3’s Kate Brewster in my eyes… but some people weather well. She looks good in the role though. Bale fits the role of John Connor pretty well. I agree. He can certainly do the intense thing well. That silly growly voice was starting to irritate me though. Helena Bonham Carter is in this too. Even though she?s not down as playing her don?t you think it would be interesting if she was Sarah Connor, possibly in flashback? That would be interesting. I’ve read other more sinister things about her though, although I’m not sure they were so much genuine spoilers as just speculation. December 10, 2008 at 4:24 pm #87400 Seb PatrickKeymaster This is a weird one. I remember when Bale was announced, and the suggestion seemed to be that John wouldn’t actually be the film’s major character. Clearly that’s gone out of the window. And I’m not sure that a film set in that famed apocalyptic future will be as interesting as the ones that had it lurking in the background as a threat. But we’ll see. I hope the rumours about them CGIing Ahnuld’s face onto the body of a guy who once played him in a film for the T800 prototype are true, though. And I find it amusing that they’re going to have a teenage Kyle fighting alongside an adult John. December 10, 2008 at 4:45 pm #87401 ChrisMParticipant I hope the rumours about them CGIing Ahnuld?s face onto the body of a guy who once played him in a film for the T800 prototype are true, though. And I find it amusing that they?re going to have a teenage Kyle fighting alongside an adult John. I have heard that Roland Kickinger will be the guy taking the role of Arnold’s character… although again that could just be speculation. McG has also stated that they are trying to pull off a certain affect but haven’t been successful yet. Personally, whilst I would get a certain kick of seeing Arnold in the film, it feels a bit of a disservice to the actual actor to me. It’s not as if different actors haven’t successfully taken over the role of characters in the past. Besides, I’d like to see other model T-800s as well. Anyway, I did a quick google on Kickinger and it turned up these: (oo-er) http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=Roland+Kickinger&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=4&ct=title According to his site, he is definitely in the film. http://www.kickinger.com/film.html December 10, 2008 at 4:45 pm #87402 Pete Part ThreeParticipant Slightly off-topic but does anyone know when TSCC will return to Virgin One? December 10, 2008 at 4:49 pm #87403 ChrisMParticipant >Slightly off-topic but does anyone know when TSCC will return to Virgin One? It’s back already. It’s on every Thursday. We’re on episode 8 this week. December 10, 2008 at 4:55 pm #87404 Pete Part ThreeParticipant Oh. Fuck. That’ll teach me not paying attention. Have been wasting my time Sky+ing Heroes (but recently gave up on it once and for all) and had no idea that something I was genuinely interested in seeing had been back for two months. Is it any good? Worth downloading? December 10, 2008 at 6:41 pm #87405 ChrisMParticipant >Is it any good? Worth downloading? It’s worth watching, I think. There are plot points and issues here and there but by large it’s a decent show. December 10, 2008 at 6:54 pm #87406 pfmParticipant I’d make the most of it because this series is probably the end of the road, unfortunately. I would watch it for Summer Glau alone, though IMO it had been quite good on the whole anyway. A couple of dodgy eps but EVERY show has those. December 11, 2008 at 8:16 am #87415 Ian SymesKeymaster I find TSCC completely underwhelming. Its heart’s in the right place, but everything feels so cheap and rushed that I can’t get emotionally involved. I think it definitely loses its impact when there’s a new Terminator to dispatch every week. You shouldn’t be able to burn through Terminators as quickly as that. Plus, John Connor is a little bitch in this series. “Wah, why do I have to do this, why can’t I be a normal kid?” Because normal kids don’t have massive killing machines sent back through time to kill them, you shit. Do what your mother says, and stop being a pussy. That said, I still watch it, although there’s currently about four episodes stored up in our Sky Plus, for no other reason than we never seem to fancy getting through them. Heroes Season Three, on the other hand, is kicking arse at the moment. December 11, 2008 at 11:33 am #87417 ChrisMParticipant I like Heroes a lot. The unrealistic character switching is getting tiresome though. Good, bad, good…. i.e it’s like their trying to make the characters 3-dimensional, but make it so unbelievable that they end up doing the opposite. It’s certainly an enthralling series though. Terminator on the other hand… not quite so exciting, (and I agree concerning John Connor’s character) but more grounded somehow. Just as good to me, but in different ways. I’ve seen the ‘terminator of the week’ criticism before. I didn’t really agree, until last week with the scene with T-Ellison at the start. (I won’t spoil it more, but you’ll know what I mean if you’ve seen it.) Before then though it was mostly a group effort to dispatch the terminators, often with Cameron being bested until someone else stepped in and distracted them in some way. (There is one notable exception to this with a female terminator. ) The film versions were more difficult to kill, it’s true, but in the first film their weapons weren’t exactly advanced (no explosive armour piercing rounds) and the next 2 they had elite terminators (liquid metal and super-armoured) on their trail. And Cromartie has been around since the start, even surviving decapitation. (They could have handled the noggin-through-time thing better though.) December 11, 2008 at 4:16 pm #87425 pfmParticipant > Heroes Season Three, on the other hand, is kicking arse at the moment. Atm I’d rather watch a show composed entirely of machine code that you have to translate to understand. December 11, 2008 at 7:05 pm #87426 Ian SymesKeymaster I think it’s right back on form – lots of interesting plot threads going on, characterisation much stronger than Season 2, most of the deadwood (like Maya and Monica) from Season 2 gone, Claire being less annoying, Hiro being utterly awesome, and Sylar has become more of a Hannibal Lecter type, which can only be a good thing. The only negative mark for recent episodes is the “Clairebear” paradox messing with my brain. December 11, 2008 at 7:14 pm #87427 pfmParticipant I always think they should just reset everything and have a fresh start but isn’t that what they were supposed to be doing with season 3? December 11, 2008 at 7:41 pm #87428 ChrisMParticipant I thought Monica had a lot of promise (although she could be a bit cheesey.) An interesting power, and someone who seemed happy to go with it like Hiro, rather than freak out. As for Maya, I thought the idea of dual powers that compensated each other was interesting. It’s just a shame it came to nothing… and she ended up not doing much but cry and be victimized. (Creepy, devastating power though.) December 11, 2008 at 7:50 pm #87429 AndrewParticipant I, too, am enjoying series three. I’d have liked to see Monica again, but the character was going nowhere isolated out as she was – and the show constantly struggles to glue its regular characters together as it is December 14, 2008 at 10:20 pm #87474 ChrisMParticipant Another snippet concerning Kickinger’s role in TS. A bit spoilerific though, including Helen Bonham Carter’s role. I wouldn’t take it all as true however. We know what papers are like. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/62208/Movie-stardom-beckons-for-Arnie-fan/ February 3, 2009 at 4:15 pm #90464 Pete Part ThreeParticipant http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KRhjBq2kYj4 I’m guessing everyone has heard this by now, but worth posting simply for how incredible it is. February 3, 2009 at 4:32 pm #90467 NakrophileParticipant Arnold should be the star. Epic fail otherwise (so epic fail). February 3, 2009 at 4:33 pm #90468 Ian SymesKeymaster Because that worked so well last time. February 3, 2009 at 5:23 pm #90469 ChrisMParticipant >Arnold should be the star. Epic fail otherwise (so epic fail). I totally disagree. It’s not about ‘robot’s going back’ for one thing, it’s John Connor’s story. It’s about the resistance in 2018 after Judgment day has taken place. Shoe horning in Arnold at this stage wouldn’t be that great from a storyline point of view. (For the later films when he get’s sent back, fair enough.) On a spoilerific note, it does appear that they’ll be trying to digitally place Arnold’s face over Kickinger’s, so there’s a good chance we’ll be sort of seeing him anyway. I’m not keen on that either but I suspect it will happen at the end of the film. Lots of stuff on http://www.terminatorfiles.com/. Some quite major spoilers there though (particularly in the T4 Salvation part of the forum) so be careful. Oh… and lots of guys talking around and around and around in circles. If you thought we do that with new Dwarf, on that site they take it to a whole new level. (Good stuff there too mind.) February 3, 2009 at 5:26 pm #90470 ChrisMParticipant >http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KRhjBq2kYj4 Yeah, not Bale in his best light. I suspect he was under quite a bit of stress when he had that outburst (and the guy was quite likely in the wrong) but that was well uncalled for. February 3, 2009 at 5:34 pm #90471 NakrophileParticipant Well for the series they should have just left it alone after T2 or gone into the war after that instead of 3. But Arnold makes everything better. February 3, 2009 at 6:57 pm #90474 ChrisMParticipant >Well for the series they should have just left it alone after T2 They could have. I’m glad we’re getting future war films though. >or gone into the war after that instead of 3. I don’t mind T3… but I don’t think that’s a bad idea. It wasn’t the comedy that bothered me so much as the way they tied the storyline together with fate. (I.e. JC happens to break into the clinic of a girl who he had a little snog-fest with in the past…. cue T-X…) Great robot designs though. >But Arnold makes everything better. He is very good as the Terminator, but he’s not the in-all-end-all in the franchise. At least he shouldn’t be. I hope we get to see other T-800 models in the new trilogy. The first film makes it clear they exist. (They’d be rubbish infiltrators otherwise.) My friend, Arnold is the be-all-end-all of everything. He is the ultimate person. Anyway, this new film will probably be quite good.
