I think the title explains it all, really.
So, I guess I’ll start – I just now noticed that Rimmer’s dad’s acrostic on the whiteboard in the opening of “The Beginning” spells out DIVORCE.

It was only a couple of years ago when I first noticed that Rimmer’s kids in BTL have Hs on, quite hard to spot because they’re running around and jumping up and down so much.

That’s pretty grim. His mind hates himself so much it fantasised about having dead children.

That Chris Barrie is trying hard to suppress laughter throughout this sequence of Rimmer’s simmering outrage.

If they refer to this on the commentary, then I concede, but I feel like I remember noticing this myself after seeing it a few times

After Rimmer gets his hard light body, Starbug is finally able to step up to red alert. It’s basically spelled out, but still a nice follow up to The Gag.

If you listen carefully to the opening theme (Series III+ version), it actually has lyrics.

The lyrics are “Reg Wharf” repeated over and over, a subtle tease of the off-screen character who would eventually play a part in Back to Earth.

I used to be bothered, as others have been, about Kryten being ‘Additional 001’ in The Inquisitor, as opposed to ‘002’ after Cat. It was only last time that I specifically connected it with this being his ‘CPU ident’ logon as the first additional AI, as Cat would presumably be on the palm print database like Lister. (Unless Cat just never bothered registering, which would be a simpler overall solution).

Things you only noticed after posting in the Things you only noticed on re-watches (preferably hard to spot ones) thread:

Cat is confirmed not to be a registered crew member in Quarantine, a detail that was subtly seeded in The Inquisitor.

Theory: The hard light drive is powered by the blue alert bulb, which is why Rimmer’s jacket becomes blue. They put the red bulb in the alert box just for safekeeping.

I only noticed after “Bodysnatcher” when the alarm clock had a talking musical part…

That it was present but silent in the actual early series, such as Quegg

I guess the increasingly in vision Holly took over the role really, much like the disappearance of any role for the talking toilet or the diminished toaster role in the final shows of the first two series, they thought they needed more talking appliances than they really did in the show.

This reminds me of the time Dave was doing a RD marathon ahead of either XI or XII, and accidentally tweeted the word “Queel”, which we jumped on with gusto. I particular remember making Danny lose his shit by referring to the following episode as Paraggeg Universe.

    Amigas in Red Dwarf

    Series V uses A2000 keyboards.

The font in Terrorform looks like the Amiga’s default Topaz font.

In Terrorform, that isn’t any real kind of code or game interface being used. It could be an animation playing on a paint program like Deluxe Paint, either going backwards deleting letters one by one every few frames at different intervals to emulate natural typing, or adding characters one by one, which could be why the spacing looks a bit off. But since they were a bit more proficient than 12-year-old me, it could have been something more technical or even a live feed, I guess.

Speculative: I don’t know whether these monitor animations in series 2 used Amigas, but the cycling colour effect would be incredibly easy to do in Deluxe Paint. You can just press Tab and it cycles the colour palette until you press Tab again, so you wouldn’t even have to painstakingly animate it.

Grasping: Quegg 500 could be a reference to the Amiga 500 home computer released in 1987. A bit of a reach, but the same series references the already-outmoded Sinclair ZX-81, and it’s amusing to think of the modest A500 being referenced as cutting edge.

I’m sure either the DVD commentary or documentary mentions that it’s actually Rob or Doug typing live, and it also being a pretty last-minute rewrite, or something. Someone will know better than me

I think you’re thinking of Out of Time.  Definitely with the rewrite at least, not sure about whether it being typed live applies to the screen in Terrorform as well.

There’s a continuity error at the climax of Quarantine when Evil Rimmer is advancing on the others and they use Lister’s luck to get the required tech to save the day. If you look at the wide shots of the corridor closely before that, you’ll see that there is actually no B47/7RF resistor anywhere in that area.

Maybe he’s just so lucky that a B47/7RF resistor spontaneously materialises in the corridor in between those shots
