I wonder if this will affect RD repeats as he was a reasonably large part of Meltdown. I think if it was mainline BBC then it would, but would Dave or Netflix do anything? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-57720012 July 6, 2021 at 4:12 pm #268196 DaveParticipant It’s not on Netflix any more, is it? July 6, 2021 at 4:19 pm #268197 WarbodogParticipant Taking the method approach to Elvis impersonation. Sorry, good taste chip, etc. July 6, 2021 at 5:08 pm #268199 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant I’m not really fond of the idea of all but erasing something from history on the basis a person turns out to be a cunt, though I do understand not broadcasting certain things if it is sensitive and said cunt is the focal point. But I don’t think that necessarily applies here, he’s a guest actor and not really renowned enough for anyone to recognise him let alone under the costume. BBC might have chosen not to repeat it if they were still broadcasting any Red Dwarf. I see no reason for any digital platform to pull it though. If it were still on Netflix, and Netflix did decide to pull it, they’d have to do the same for their own show House of Cards which they didn’t do. Granted Spacey hasn’t been convicted, that didn’t stop them (rightly I think) removing him from the show. On a bit of a side note, I keep thinking that of course the BBC would never repeat any Top of the Pops with Jimmy Savile on it, but have they edited those shows in anyway so the performances remain but Jimmy himself is removed? Because that would be a shame if they were lost to BBC archives. July 6, 2021 at 5:26 pm #268200 JamesTCParticipant The story here is that a victim of sexual assault took 20 years to get justice. And even then had to go public to help other victims and to highlight the systematic protection that perpetrators of sexual assault have had for far too long. A Red Dwarf episode from three decades ago is an irrelevance. July 6, 2021 at 5:33 pm #268201 DaveParticipant Taking the method approach to Elvis impersonation. Sorry, good taste chip, etc. Now I don’t feel so bad about abandoning my original post about Hitler also featuring prominently in the episode. That’s a bit uncomfortable, isn’t it? :/ July 6, 2021 at 11:54 pm #268211 International DebrisParticipant I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets cut from repeat runs and wouldn’t complain if that were the case. July 7, 2021 at 10:41 am #268213 RudolphParticipant Am just glad justice has been done and he’s got his comeuppance. July 24, 2021 at 4:52 pm #268518 RickParticipant If they did remove him, they would only have to trim a few scenes. Did he sing over the closing credits as well or was that someone else? If it was him then they would just have to replace the audio with the standard end credits music. July 25, 2021 at 12:14 pm #268529 MoonlightParticipant Just don’t repeat it. Cutting out Elvis is obviously impossible to make work without breaking the episode. If you think it would only involve trimming inconsequential moments you need to rewatch the episode to refresh your memory. July 25, 2021 at 1:08 pm #268535 DaveParticipant Just don’t repeat it. I think the trouble with this approach is that you then cut off anyone else who stands to benefit from the episode being repeated, all because of the crimes of one man. Which doesn’t seem fair on everyone else involved. Personally, I wouldn’t be offended by seeing the episode again in its original form, even if I am probably going to be thinking about this matter every time Elvis is on-screen. July 25, 2021 at 9:44 pm #268543 GlenTokyoParticipant Deepfake and dub. The 2021 solution. Sort of. July 25, 2021 at 10:18 pm #268544 StilianidesParticipant Very sad to read this news, but the episode should still be broadcast in its original form imo. There are plenty of great movies and TV shows that unfortunately have featured a criminal in a minor role, and I don’t think they should be hidden away. July 27, 2021 at 2:28 pm #268596 By Jove its holmesParticipant What kind of freaking message would we be sending to the girls and women this turdie preyed upon, sexually harassed and raped if we say “sorry about your lifelong trauma, but my desire to not besmirch the reputation of my favourite tv show is more important”! July 28, 2021 at 1:05 am #268628 loadoftottnumbParticipant I could understand it being cut, some things are more important. Erase this dickheads career from history. August 1, 2021 at 2:09 pm #268659 By Jove its holmesParticipant I think dickhead is being kind to him. But yeah, at the least and out of respect for his victim, going forward, Meltdown should no longer have the Elvis version of the closing theme. August 1, 2021 at 2:14 pm #268660 WarbodogParticipant Series XIV news can’t come soon enough. August 2, 2021 at 4:17 am #268665 By Jove its holmesParticipant Clayton Mark had a lot of teenage and pre-teen female dancers in his Elvis tours… how many more will come forward? August 2, 2021 at 7:45 am #268666 DaveParticipant Probably not the best idea to be casually speculating what serious crimes someone may have committed.
