VIII Classifications News Posted by John Hoare on 29th August 2005, 01:20 A couple of BBFC classifications before I piss off. First up, RED DWARF 8 – DVD EXTRAS – SUPERMODELS FX SHOTS & CGI. Part of this is obviously Bill Pearson’s effects featurette Super Models, as mentioned here. But judging from the title, some of the 18 minutes 5 seconds is other effects footage of various kinds. We also have RED DWARF 8 – DVD EXTRAS MUSIC FEATURETTES & STORYBOARDS. This includes the 2 minute 23 second music featurette Fight (no word on the music yet, sadly), 7 mins 18 secs of Screen to Storyboard Comparisons (yummy), a 2 minute 27 second egg (I won’t even try and guess at this one yet), and a 7 minute 10 second item called Clear, which puzzled me a bit until I remembered that music video Danny, Norm and Craig were in by a band called Intro2, latterly Kanuba…
I reckon the egg might be something from the commentary booth. Or it could be a Doug piece to camera answering criticisms of VIII. Or it could be Craig Charles in character (as his Corrie character obviously) telling us how we’re sad fanboys with no life and how conventions are for losers. It could also be Chloe doing something with a model of the VIII/remastered ship. That something being humping it ’till she cums, her foaming twat on full display. Two nuns in a bath, one of them says ‘where’s the soap?’. Peace.
As a dedicated, lifelong fan of Red Dwarf, and as a dedicated, lifelong fan of trailers, I’m horrified and insulted that you didn’t mention the content in the link below. Shame on you. http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classified.nsf/ClassifiedWorks/DD4D3CA91D9BC7A18025706A001B9F75?OpenDocument
What the fuck? But that doesn’t show up in the ‘Recent Decisions’ section! Excellent work. 11 trailers! Hooray!
Not a fantastic easter egg, a trailer. I still wan’t that outtake from Series 1 or 2 (I can’t remember) that ‘fell off’ in the edit as an egg. But I suppose it could be included in a possible Re-mastered DVD release.
> 11 trailers! Hooray! Just so nobody gets too excited – that’s a tape the BBC submitted. I don’t think they meant to get it all classified, given that they’re just various versions of the same trails. There are, I believe, only two main trails for VIII – the Star Wars one, and the episode two one – and we’ll have both of these. (And not off VHS for a change!) Oh, and neither will be an Easter Egg. Something similar happened last year where we got a missing piece of music from a Beta tape, placed it on our delivery digi to the BBC, for inclusion as a music cue, and it went through the BBFC along with the rest of the contents, despite not having to. Which is to say, the BBFC listing won’t always be accurate to the DVD contents…
Which is rather odd, as that means the BBC are paying more than they need to for classification. Not a lot, obviously, but more than they need.
> Which is rather odd, as that means the BBC are paying more than they need to for classification. Odd, innit. I think it’s off-set slightly by a) saving of transfer/duping costs if you just send the whole tape in, rather than edit; and b) the expediency of just bunging the tape off. (We’re always up against time with these things.)
Indeed. And anything under 10 minutes is charged at two-thirds of ?85 anyway, so it probably made sense to do the whole lot :)
The things I learn doing this site. An insight into both the way the BBC classifies things, and how many different versions of trailers they do, and the different times. Not that the latter isn’t obvious, but somehow it all becomes clearer when written down… > . There are, I believe, only two main trails for VIII – the Star Wars one, and the episode two one – and we’ll have both of these. As the Star Wars one isn’t classified in that little lot, is that both 30 and 40 second versions of the same trail, as well as the different endings?
“As the Star Wars one isn’t classified in that little lot, is that both 30 and 40 second versions of the same trail, as well as the different endings?” I never saw the different versions of that. I saw one that followed an episode of remastered and which I still have on VHS. And I think I revisited the same one on the internet some months later. They made series VIII look so impressive with that trailer. Really epic, and somehow lonely even though the crew had been resurrected – exactly what the series needed in fact. What were the differences in the alternative versions of the trailer?
Chloe Annett definetly had a guest appearance on Saturday/Sunday morning CBBC. That might be an egg of some sort.
You’re right, Pete. However, I doubt that these will be used as easter eggs – it’s expensive to use extracts from other shows on DVDs, so I expect they’d be main features if they went to the expense and bother of clearing them.
