“Are you telling me that you built a time machine… out of a DeLorean?”
    “Well I’ll tell you…”

“When this thing hits 89 miles…”

    “88, sir.”

“88!! 88 miles an hour, you’re going to see some serious shit!”

They should do this on Broadway with the original cast, I hear Michael J Fox dances like a boss nowadays.

WHAT. I’m not sure if this sounds awesome or like a train wreck with a Delorean. Anyone go to see it, after all?

That’s what I’m asking – it runs in October, I’m not in the UK or else I’d go, but we really need info on it, even the playbook would be awesome. Please let me know if anyone plans on going!

Not really inclined until I see some reviews. Dearly love the film, but don’t see how this is representative of that – aside from the name.

Did anyone play the Back to the Future game?

    I enjoyed it.

The Wii port is utterly broken but just about worth it for the writing / dialogue. It’s a proper faithful little adventure with some nice ideas.

I had to play it through a few times for the Back to the Future Encyclopedia; loved it, very few continuity mistakes, and had all the humor and charm of the movies. We were cracking up just watching the video of my playthough!

I played the first level gratis when it was offered on the Mac and kinda gave up on it due to the cumbersome controls (I’m a console gamer so not really used to it before anyone jumps on me). Then a friend gave it to me on the Wii and I played through the same stuff I’d already played…and I’ve kinda given up on it again.

I appreciate that it’s been made with a huge amount of love and the voice cast is very good (the guy doing Marty is fantastic) but I found the gameplay incredibly slow and I realised I was just playing it because it was BTTF rather than because it was a good game. If they could take the attention to detail and commitment to the franchise and shove it in a more action-packed genre I’d have probably adored it.

Telltale games by their very nature are slower-paced games… and the BttF game was admittedly slower than the average Telltale game, so I can see where you’re coming from. I grew up on those kind of “point and click” adventure games, so it was old hat for me, but I can understand they’re not for everyone. Still, I had the added ‘bonus’ of having to click on every single item multiple times to get every last line of dialog in the game.. so you can imagine how slow it was for ME… =)

Still playing Telltale’s Monkey Island 5 series. So far, I’m loving it.

I did too, but I have to say I REEEEEEALLY dislike Telltale’s approach. It’s more “click here to advance to another flood of dialogue” than “okay, I have a cleaver, a thimble, a dinosaur egg and a picture of Sasquatch…how do I get into the fortress?”

I loved Maniac Mansion (my first, my always…), the Space Quest series and the first two Monkey Island games. It’s not that the genre is lost on me…it’s just that I prefer them to be games, rather than interactive storybooks.

Ha! OK, I’ll agree with you on that. The newer games seem to be more about the writing and less about making actual puzzles to solve. I think I only got stuck once in the entire game, and it was only because I wasn’t paying attention to what I was supposed to be doing. Fortunately they do enough of a good job with the material, whether it’s Sam & Max, Wallace & Gromit or BttF, to keep me coming back.. =)

Very much off topic at this point, but if you are interested in a recent(?) point and click adventure game that absolutely nails the writing, humor and logic of the old LucasArts ones, check out Jolly Rover. I think I got it on Steam for $2 during a sale and it’s truly a worthy play. I adored it.

And I’m really angry at myself for not listing Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist in my list of games above. It’s the best one.

    It is. The best one.

So Kate, what was the plot? Was it new, an amalgamation from all 3 movies, or just the basic plot of the first one?

Oh, okay, what I’m really interested in: THE SINGING. How in the world did BTTF lend itself to song? LOL

And the guy playing Marty had the same surname as you, and everything! Wow!

We had one person report back to us that it was a pretty faithful adaptation of the movie, but what were your thoughts? Was there anything in it that would be considered ‘new’ material for the encyclopedia? I wish I knew you were going, I could have sent you in as our correspondent.. =)
