He mentions the weather, tanks, and his dislike of people requesting his appearance on podcasts; but he also included this tidbit on future Red Dwarf and Brittas Empire:

“At the risk of repeating something I seem to have said many times over the last umpteen years, I simply do not know if/when we will be doing more Red Dwarf. Over the winter of 2015/16 when we made series 11 and 12, some common sense momentum seemed to be building, but, since then, the project seems to have juddered to a halt. In the desert of silence I do encounter the occasional droplet of positivity but that’s it. If the droplet ever becomes a trickle, I shall of course leap to the keyboard and let you know.

The Brittas position is not dissimilar. Since the promising newspaper articles of a couple of years ago and the enthusiasm of the Reunion last year, it all seems to have gone all quiet on the Whitbury front. All I can do is continue to express my desire to recreate the chainsaw voiced ogre and that is something I shall certainly keep doing.”

Thanks to Chris Barrie Fans for making this known on Twitter.

ufology is easily one of the most intellectually bankrupt fields of “study” there is with absolutely zero standards for what counts as evidence and an intense resistance to any explanation that isn’t aggressively fringe. Stuff like the famous version of the Roswell story was invented by a SINGLE AUTHOR DECADES LATER, which is incredibly easy to find out yet they still treat this fictional retelling as gospel to this day.

I’ll spare you another 2K word post on the subject but rest assured I could make one.

I’ll just give you a quick rant about how the Bermuda Triangle is 100% fictional. The idea that there is anything mysterious is nonsense. The whole concept was invented by a single author (paranormal author Charles Berlitz) exaggerating a couple accounts of missing planes from years past. However, there are statistically no more ships or planes lost in that area than any similarly sized patch of ocean. Period.

Armchair skeptics tried to explain this supposed mystery without checking to make sure that there was any mystery that needed to be explained, and you got ridiculous theories about giant methane bubbles eating ships and knocking planes out of the air and other stuff that’s genuinely not much less ridiculous than the fringe idea it’s attempting to explain away. Before trying to explain a mysterious event, make sure the event actually happened at all, and if it did, that it actually happened as described. Paranormal stories almost always fail this test. And the whole “invented by a single author exaggerating accounts from decades ago” thing is a pattern with paranormal shit, especially famous ghost stories.

Never has an avatar matched a post more perfectly.

The accuracy of Scully’s skeptical arguments varies pretty violently. At one point she claims there’s good evidence for the concept of spontaneous human combustion, which, no.

Definitely not gross the way Chris’s rhetoric is, but ufology is easily one of the most intellectually bankrupt fields of “study” there is with absolutely zero standards for what counts as evidence and an intense resistance to any explanation that isn’t aggressively fringe.

How do you prove a negative? I can’t prove it wasn’t literal unicorns but that doesn’t make unicorns a likely explanation for a UFO sighting. There are a million reasons why aliens are a shitty explanation for any UFO, and a lot of them should go without saying. On top of everything, military people aren’t automatically scientifically literate or skeptical. They’ve mistaken birds for UFOs plenty of times, complete with the “moves like no known craft” line.

“The military guy says he can’t rule out an unfalsifiable claim” is a truly embarrassing attempt at a gotcha. The truth is messy and complicated, and it’s really fucking easy to just accept a fringe claim simply because the situation is weird on its face and not because you’ve actually exhausted other possibilities.

I’ll just leave you with the observation that you failed to address a single specific point I made and, forgive me for invoking the name of a logical fallacy as if it’s some magic incantation that wins debates, just relied on a cheap appeal to authority…for someone who wasn’t saying anything of substance anyway.

Uh oh, Craig’s hosting a UFO panel. Definitely not gross the way Chris’s rhetoric is, but ufology is easily one of the most intellectually bankrupt fields of “study” there is with absolutely zero standards for what counts as evidence and an intense resistance to any explanation that isn’t aggressively fringe.

Come on, bit of an overreaction, surely? The organisers probably asked Craig because he’s best known for starring in a really popular sci-fi show, and Craig probably agreed because it’s easy money and a bit of fun. It’s hardly Chris ranting about globalisation and woke slavery.

    #282368

I’d host a UFO panel if it was paying well. Just a bit of fun innit

He liked the concept enough to allow his name in the title of Craig Charles: UFO Conspiracies.

I saw him doing stand-up back when you could light up indoors. He was certainly the cigarette smoking man that night.

Craig got into UFOs as a psyop distraction from Chris’ website updates. But TOS died and G&T was busy with memes, so hardly anyone even noticed.

You know, if TOS and the legal wrangling hadn’t been ringing the death knell, one of the core cast killing it by being practically unemployable (by any reasonable person) would have been absolutely gutting.  Ridiculous that I’m almost grateful those happened before he brought his beliefs into public.

And so marks the point where you’ve mentioned Corbyn more than anyone else in this thread (apart from in direct reference to you mentioning him).

Our of interest, what are your reasons for celebrating?

    #282449

Presumably because he’s not getting back in? Honestly I’ll take any excuse to celebrate at this point.

Just that it winds all you lot up. For a forum based around a (brilliant) comedy, you people are some of the most humourless, pompous, boring wokebros I’ve ever come across. The sexy details crap is just not funny. It never was and never will be. Anyway you were the first person to mention him, Jono, when you peddled the ‘it was a scam’ crap. But enough about Corbo. You’re right, I’ve mentioned him FAR too much.

Damn man, that’s fucking crazy. What did you think about the Coral Canvass? I’ve always felt Better Than Life to be quite weak and am disappointed that it ranks above quite a few better episodes.

So obviously Craig will come on to Mothership Connection by Parliament. But will he go off to No Doubt About It by Hot Chocolate or is that not cool enough?

I could make a joke about what happened in Last Human, but I won’t in the interest of good taste.
