Someone else may have posted this somewhere else already, whatever…) Got my new SFX – the February issue – and in the Roundup section is this little titbit: ‘Craig Charles has divulged more about Dave’s Red Dwarf revival. “We are going to do Red Dwarf: Unplugged, which is just the four of us – and some chairs – trying to improvise, or rather trying to remember, classic scenes,” he said at the recent Collectormania Glasgow.’ So have I missed this? Has everyone been chatting about this? Or have I stumbled across something? Fucking. Called this. January 10, 2009 at 11:28 pm #88653 siParticipant Give that man a peanut. January 11, 2009 at 12:00 am #88654 Jonathan CappsKeymaster This appeared on the Red Dwarf Wiki page but was roundly dismissed as idle rumour. Lovely idea, anyway! January 11, 2009 at 1:38 am #88655 PhilParticipant Yeah, it did appear on the wiki page, and was eventually removed. (It was not cited.) But now, coming from Craig himself, it’s more reliable. Perhaps it was Craig editing the wiki? The real question is…when will it be revealed that I was right about Ricky Gervais playing Kryten? January 11, 2009 at 1:39 am #88656 siParticipant NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! January 11, 2009 at 2:57 am #88657 MnoooahParticipant Guess the big question is now how to feel when you prove to be much better at it then they are. :/ January 11, 2009 at 3:33 am #88658 pfmParticipant This is gonna be embarrassing to watch unless it’s a bit more than them just trying to remember the ‘classic’ scenes. We’re talking 20 years ago with some moments. You wouldn’t expect anyone to re-enact them to a point where it was actually good to watch. They’re gonna have to work their arses off to make this worth it! I wonder if the idea’s been kicking around for ages or whether Doug just sprang it on them? Looks like they’ll be playing other characters too. January 11, 2009 at 4:05 am #88659 PhilParticipant >You wouldn?t expect anyone to re-enact them to a point where it was actually good to watch. See, I think the best stuff would come from the ad-libs and the flubs. Look at the Smeg Ups…these guys are good at taking an embarrassing moment and turning it into a good comic moment. I wouldn’t WANT them to get everything right. Let’s say that Chris and Craig sit down and give us a miraculous rendition of the virginity conversation. Big deal. We already HAVE a perfect rendition, and it’s in the middle of a perfect episode. We don’t need another one, decades later. What we need is the chance for four (or five, or however many) great actors to get together and have silly fun, using familiar scenes as a jumping off point. For further evidence of their ability to work together like that, check out Can’t Smeg Won’t Smeg. The best stuff is unscripted. However nervous people might be about the new proper episodes, this seems to me like an absolutely perfect bonus. Even if the new episodes SUCK (which I truly doubt they will anyway) we’ll all just be happy to see the cast together again, having fun. I personally can’t wait. January 11, 2009 at 7:22 am #88660 ChrisMParticipant >The real question is?when will it be revealed that I was right about Ricky Gervais playing Kryten? Please form an orderly queue behind the gun sights. ;) This is gonna be embarrassing to watch unless it?s a bit more than them just trying to remember the ?classic? scenes. But isn’t them messing it up part of the fun of this kind of programme? Or at least seeing how well/not well they do? EDIT- Oh ok, Phil said that already.. much more eloquently…. I wonder if these are the multiple characters he was speaking of. (I.e. reenacting scenes involving other persona’s he has played.) That would be a minority though… so I think it might still be a reference to the two proper episodes. (Mixed feelings there.) January 11, 2009 at 11:48 am #88664 JamesTCParticipant To be fair it is better than a clip show. January 11, 2009 at 12:14 pm #88665 ChrisMParticipant >To be fair it is better than a clip show. I wouldn’t be surprised if they incorporated both what with ‘clip show with a difference’. I.e. act out the scene… then see how accurate they were to the actual performance. Should be interesting, but it could get old quick. Still, just a half an hour… and they may not stick to the same format each round. Anyway, it’ll fun finding out… (Mind you one guy I heard say that ended up giving birth to twin boys. Great big heads they had too. ;) ) That came across a bit negative, but I’m actually looking forward to these episodes. January 11, 2009 at 1:13 pm #88666 hummingbirdParticipant Still puzzled re how this ties in with Craig’s comment about playing lots of different roles. Of course, it could be the 2 eps he was referring to. January 11, 2009 at 1:49 pm #88668 Ian SymesKeymaster Our write-up here: http://www.ganymede.tv/atspeed/2009/01/whose-dwarf-is-it-anyway January 11, 2009 at 5:52 pm #88669 siParticipant Typical. I do the hard work (reading a magazine and copying it to here)… (and yes, I know I’ve got a credit) January 12, 2009 at 1:37 am #88671 pfmParticipant > Still puzzled re how this ties in with Craig?s comment about playing lots of different roles. Easy. There’s only 4 of them so sometimes they’re gonna have to be playing different characters. January 13, 2009 at 9:17 am #88673 JoParticipant >Perhaps it was Craig editing the wiki? Yeah Craig LOVES the internet! :oP January 13, 2009 at 3:05 pm #88682 Danny StephensonKeymaster Yeah Craig LOVES the internet! :oP Everyone’s got to have a habit, what’s wrong with fishing? January 13, 2009 at 6:00 pm #88685 hummingbirdParticipant Yes, the most popular pastimes have always been ones that males can enjoy alone. January 13, 2009 at 6:51 pm #88687 pfmParticipant > Yes, the most popular pastimes have always been ones that males can enjoy alone. Like wanking until you need an ibuprofen. January 13, 2009 at 6:59 pm #88689 Ian SymesKeymaster I wonder how many times I heard the line “and, of course, the all time number one” before I had the slightest idea what it meant? January 14, 2009 at 12:29 am #88694 DaveParticipant >Everyone?s got to have a habit, what?s wrong with fishing? Well, Junior Angler is the best you’re gonna get out of me, buddy January 14, 2009 at 12:51 am #88695 MnoooahParticipant Heh. Heh. Junior Angler. January 14, 2009 at 1:00 am #88696 Danny StephensonKeymaster Haha ha, haha ha ha ha… Thrush. January 17, 2009 at 2:57 am #88978 Ben PaddonParticipant I can hear sex noise! January 17, 2009 at 2:22 pm #88996 Danny StephensonKeymaster You guys are all awesome for knowing all that you know. January 17, 2009 at 8:48 pm #89016 Ben PaddonParticipant Call it a gift. A delicious, cream-filled gift with a crumbly, flaky crust. January 17, 2009 at 9:10 pm #89018 Danny StephensonKeymaster I love Cornettos. January 18, 2009 at 2:16 am #89026 Ben PaddonParticipant I was thinking of a different shop.
