Didn’t manage to see episode one as I was travelling.

    Thoughts?

I have several. Mostly centred around why British TV writers struggle so much with this kind of thing…

Like Buffy, but without any of the elements that make Buffy good.

It’s all that Jonny Capps fault then?

    That bastard simply *must* die.

I’ve not seen Demons, but I’ve heard far too many terrible things about it for it to have any hope of being something I like. Looking forward to yours thoughts on it, though Andrew. NTS, HO!

    > NTS, HO!

Hmm, dunno if I have time. OTHER PROJECTS, y’know…

Maybe at the end of the series. I’m loathe to lay into anything on the basis of the every-tricky first ep.

    Fair enough.

How about the first word from the New Dwarf script?

Actually, genuinely, that might be too much of a giveaway right now.

    So it’s either…

    CAT: Bin-men!

    or

    HOLLY: Shit.

I quite liked the Dickensian monsters, particularly the idea of a cretin with a fake nose. (That strikes me as familiar for some reason.)

The programme was atrociously cliche ridden though. And I wish Philip Glenister had left that accent alone.

And plastic bullets which just bruise humans but kill ‘inhumans’? And shot from a grantedly cool looking antique gun? Keep the gun but stick with staples like the silver I say. Sure that can kill humans too, but provides all the more of a challenge for the ‘Helsing’ character.

It’s too early to judge properly though, I’ll give it a bit more time.

Well, I’ve still not watched this but according to this which my li’l sis found:

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/cult/a147881/demons-to-be-axed.html

…it’s likely to be axed after Philip Glenister said he wants to pack it in.

All this on the day that it’s been reported that he wants to put Gene Hunt to bed after a third series at most of Ashes to Ashes…

Have to admit, I’m glad (although I didn’t see that many episodes.) I found the vampire episode especially annoying. I don’t mind a bit of reinvention but the nonsense they came up with…

To kill a vampire you have to get hold of some of their cells. Submit it to an electric shock to bring the cells to life (!?) then put ‘living tissue’ on a bullet. Shoot your vampire. Living tissue somehow brings them to life causing them to age and die of old age. (So what if it’s a young vampire then?)

What was wrong with the old stake in the heart routine? Make them super-powerful and fast fine, but don’t mess with the classics.

A bit worrying that I was paying enough attention to remember all that, but I stopped watching it shortly after that.

I thought Being Human on the other hand was rather good. (It’s not like Torchwood, despite what someone said in another thread. Ok, a bit in the sense that both have toothy monsters.) And it’s coming back for another series next year.
