Can be comedy, drama, comedy-drama, sitcom, sketch show, topical show, US, UK (other nations are available), film, TV or radio, whatever. Don’t fight it, John. Let it in. Let it all in. October 16, 2008 at 3:23 pm #86156 DaveParticipant Weeds is not my favourite TV show but I am really enjoying it, because it does things like this: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=cJYuI_gOFi4 October 16, 2008 at 3:51 pm #86158 Jonathan CappsKeymaster Just a man in the Major Crimes police department, re-organising a picture board set to Johnny Cash. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=oFLiI1iBTx4 Also, the opening titles for the first season. A master class in montage set to brilliant music: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=J3t6io0vW-c Also, this is quite spoilery for season 4 of Lost, but this face-off is just brilliant, but only really in the proper context of the show. That one scene sets up so much for what is to come and covertly reveals a great many clues as to how both men are connected to The Island. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=DkOsImjXcQs And, finally, the scene from The West Wing season 2. Again, it needs some context to properly work, but I care not a jot: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-EgLiPvhV-Y October 16, 2008 at 3:53 pm #86159 Jonathan CappsKeymaster > Weeds is not my favourite TV show but I am really enjoying it, because it does things like this: Also, I hear it has Mary Louise Parker’s bum in it. I didn’t know he’d done that on Homicide, but almost the exact same scene is in season 5 of The Wire. Also, The Wire has swearing and nudity. October 16, 2008 at 6:15 pm #86164 hummingbirdParticipant > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgOQerqcj_A How lovely it would have been if we’d had a whole hour of Jacobi. I’ve just been re-watching this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiQkVhHYR2A&feature=related Love this show. Series one in particular just oozes gorgeousness. (just don’t mention the special) October 16, 2008 at 6:16 pm #86165 Jonathan CappsKeymaster > (just don?t mention the special) I’d rather not mention the entire show. October 16, 2008 at 6:18 pm #86166 DaveParticipant I love how Green Wing manages to squeeze a half hour worth of jokes into an hour. Probably the IT Crowd moment that made me laugh the most: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MTbX1aMajow October 16, 2008 at 6:24 pm #86167 Jonathan CappsKeymaster > I love how Green Wing manages to squeeze a half hour worth of jokes into an hour. Basically, any scenes without dialogue were candidates for slo-mo. October 16, 2008 at 6:27 pm #86168 John HoareParticipant My favourite MBB moment is 20 secs into this: October 16, 2008 at 7:19 pm #86171 AndrewParticipant > Excellent! I didn?t know he?d done that on Homicide, but almost the exact same scene is in season 5 of The Wire. I need to read his book. And finish revisiting the Homicide DVDs. And get the whole Wire boxset. Given that a lot of the book was used as the basis for both shows, it’ll be interesting to see what else is duplicated. > Also, The Wire has swearing and nudity. Boxset. Need it. But you are DETERMINED to make it seventeen. October 17, 2008 at 4:24 pm #86185 pfmParticipant http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXs29cBjR8c I couldn’t get over how brilliant this episode was. The first four of that season are some of the greatest episodes of television ever made. The big question is, can they better or even match that with the end of season 4? October 17, 2008 at 4:29 pm #86186 Jonathan CappsKeymaster Going by the mid-season finale, I think they’ll do just fine. October 17, 2008 at 10:21 pm #86193 Seb PatrickKeymaster I’ve said it on here before, but – FUNNIEST MOMENT IN TV HISTORY : http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jcdK7sAy40A And meanwhile, because the TWO best TV moments of 2007 BOTH involved John Simm : http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=aOEfvMMcw_A The absolute brilliance of that sequence, the use of the music… everything made up for the fact that series two was a little disappointing compared to the first. It would have been fine if they’d just had the first series ending with that scene, to be honest. October 18, 2008 at 11:19 am #86201 Tarka DalParticipant > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgOQerqcj_A It doesn’t matter how many times I watch that, it doesn’t get any less special. Jacobi is fantastic, obviously, but Tennant also has his finest five minutes as The Doctor. EVERYTHING works. EDIT: Everything apart from the sparky effect on the cable. October 18, 2008 at 12:16 pm #86202 Seb PatrickKeymaster I’d almost go so far as to say Jacobi’s performance in Utopia is the equal, if not the better, of anything in Who. Ever. That moment when he turns around after opening the watch… there’s no makeup, or anything like that, but purely through his eyes you can see that he’s changed. Awe-inspiring stuff. And I still get a shiver down my spine when it cuts in the Face of Boe bit. And when you hear the Gallifrey music (although at the time we didn’t know it was that, of course) as Yana is remembering “his” life. And… oh, the whole thing gives me goosebumps. October 18, 2008 at 12:32 pm #86203 Tarka DalParticipant I really like the whole “It’s Alive” Frankenstein’s Monster vibe. The bubbling noise and the soundbytes. Watching that clip again I just love the way Tennant plays it when Martha is telling him about the watch. October 18, 2008 at 2:43 pm #86211 Pete Part ThreeParticipant http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ob1rYlCpOnM October 19, 2008 at 2:20 am #86216 pfmParticipant > And meanwhile, because the TWO best TV moments of 2007 BOTH involved John Simm Shame the LoM clip is messed up by David Bowie trying to copy John Lennon. The Master moment though is priceless. IMO they were beyond lucky to get both Jacobi AND Simm to do the role (Jacobi being immensely excellent in those few moments where he’s The Master). I know Simm grates on some people with all the Tennant-esque yelling and running around but I think he was exactly the right choice. If Eccleston had still been the Doctor probably the most perfect Master would have been Sean Bean (though it would have been more or less repeating his Trevelyan role in Goldeneye). I hope Moffat gets to deal with the character in the future. More likely to be the Rani and/or the Valeyard from Trial that return before him though. October 19, 2008 at 4:20 am #86219 Jonathan CappsKeymaster > Shame the LoM clip is messed up by David Bowie trying to copy John Lennon My my, aren’t you controversial? Also I love this opening scene from an episode of Frasier – as Niles prepares for a Valentines date. October 20, 2008 at 2:13 pm #86236 Jonathan CappsKeymaster THAT IS NOT THE NOISE I MAKE. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JYnaecPoP-w October 22, 2008 at 11:40 pm #86268 pfmParticipant From that clip you’d think you’d tuned into Dick and Dom (only several years later and on a Saturday). God I used to love it (TMWRNJ, not Dick and Dom, I only used to LIKE Dick and Dom, whenever I got chance to watch it. If only iplayer had been around then..) Who was more influenced by Lee and Herring, Dick and Dom or the Boosh guys…? And Matt Berry needs to give Richard Herring his old hair back. Car crash TV, there :oS I can’t look away. It’s like watching David Brent make a succession of horrible foot-in-mouth mistakes, only it’s real. Also she’s an idiot. October 24, 2008 at 12:43 am #86301 JoParticipant SingingPotato1979 can actually sing?, Well, I do kick ass at Singstar :oP URGH!!! Not actually a fave TV show but needed to share this fucking retard with you… http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=UwjlUMoLVvA October 24, 2008 at 1:57 am #86302 Ben PaddonParticipant I saw that yesterday. That woman genuinely scares me. October 24, 2008 at 3:38 am #86304 ChrisMParticipant Speaking as someone who was brought up in a Christian household himself (albeit I don’t seriously practice any more,) I didn’t want to condemn her for her faith…. or consider it ‘retarded’ … but watching the video further, that sense of self-righteousness she displays makes me feel like wincing. Condemning Obama because of his parents’ beliefs? Or his own kind of Christian faith (whatever that is?) She’s conveniently forgetting some Christian principles herself. (“Judge not lest ye be judged”, etc.) October 24, 2008 at 5:24 am #86306 Ben PaddonParticipant She is retarded. “I will vote for the candidate who believes more” is ruddy stupid. Frankly I’d prefer she made her decision based on their hair styles, or something slightly less cerebrally bankrupt. October 24, 2008 at 7:11 am #86309 Pete Part ThreeParticipant “And what do you say to your husband who is still on the fence?” “I will pray for him. He knows what the right decision is” Yeah, divorcing you, you stupid bitch. October 24, 2008 at 8:15 am #86310 Jonathan CappsKeymaster http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=NLVSURlFoQs The losing candidate, there. October 24, 2008 at 10:25 am #86311 JoParticipant Sorry I had to write it down to see if what he says made any more sense when read… It doesn’t. “In case… I think you may have noticed That Senator Obama’s supporters have been saying some pretty nasty things about Western Pennsylvania lately! And you know? I couldn’t agree with them more… I couldn’t disagree with you… I couldn’t agree with you more than the fact that Western Pennsylvania is the most patriotic, most ff… uh, God loving, most patriotic part of America! And this is a great part of the country” WTF is he doing?!? Apparently as well as agreeing with a total nut-job he can’t seem to string a coherent sentence together. So you you agree or disagree then Mr McCain??? October 24, 2008 at 10:51 am #86312 Jonathan CappsKeymaster It’s almost beautiful, isn’t it? the shocked silence of the audience is priceless. October 24, 2008 at 1:03 pm #86322 ChrisMParticipant >She is retarded. ?I will vote for the candidate who believes more? is ruddy stupid. That, I agree with. Well, not that she is retarded (retarded people can’t help it!) but it’s a stupid attitude certainly. October 24, 2008 at 1:06 pm #86323 pfmParticipant If McCain gets in prepare for the worst. If Obama gets in STILL prepare for the worst but be consoled by the fact that it’s him we’ll be listening to, and not McCain, when the shit hits the fan. According to various sources the next President is going to face something major next year. Joe Biden (Democratic VP candidate) clearly mentions this here. I like how he calls it a ‘generated’ crisis. What does that suggest?? Obama later excused Biden’s words saying “Joe sometimes engages in rhetorical flourishes”. Though Colin Powell also mentioned something bad’s gonna happen in January, if you watch this clip from around 2:15 onward – http://youtube.com/watch?v=_LDBOPcHpeo October 24, 2008 at 3:12 pm #86336 PhilParticipant I imagine the “something bad” is just the compounded frustrations of several major issues having to be dealt with at once (the economy, healthcare, the FUCKING WAR, climate change, our atrocious global standing, the fact that half the nation will start out utterly against the new president…in no particular order…) and not some specific, as-yet-undefined event that all of the candidates know about but aren’t telling us. That’s conspiracy, monkey. And there’s plenty of stuff we already DO know about that qualifies as crisis…why does there have to be a hidden one that takes precedence? Whomever gets in WILL have to face a crisis, and that crisis is proving himself to be able to handle the position RIGHT OFF THE BAT. There won’t be any time to get used to it. He won’t be able to coast along until tragedy strikes. We’ve had 8 years of tragedy. If the next president doesn’t take fast steps toward rectifying that, he’s already a failure. October 24, 2008 at 9:09 pm #86343 Tarka DalParticipant http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=UBZSTrlcylU The rules 1 If you’re of a certain age you here this theme tune and a nostalgic voice inside your head compels you to think, or in a worst case scenario say ‘Aww they don’t make them like that any more’ 2 You watch two, perhaps three minutes of the show. You realise you were right. They don’t make them like that any more. Because it was f*cking shite. Great theme tune, dull bloody show. This however was the bestest bloody show in all of christendom. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sfIk24oXM1A October 25, 2008 at 2:44 am #86348 pfmParticipant Thanks, Karl, for getting the thread back on track. I mentioned radio at the beginning so let’s have some radio clips, for the love of all that is good and holy in this godforsaken world of despair, deceit and ruin. One of my favourite shows started on stage then had an excellent radio series that spawned the TV show. Not the best clip but there don’t seem to be many around – http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vnVRoo7pnpU Author Replies Viewing 50 replies - 1 through 50 (of 63 total) 1 2 Scroll to top • Scroll to Recent Forum Posts You must be logged in to reply to this topic.
