Was going to call this thread ‘Labour Slit’ as they are a bunch of cunts. But I don’t want to pull a series X episode 5. These are the only rules. February 18, 2019 at 1:52 pm #244505 Ben SaundersParticipant >Labour Neither February 18, 2019 at 3:08 pm #244506 By Jove its holmesBlocked So the split in the UK Labour Party has come at last. Seven MPs led by Chuka Umunna have left the party. This is a sad moment. I am a big admirer of Umunna and hoped he would become Leader. I also admire Luciana Berger. And I fully agree with their rejection of Corbyn’s disastrous leadership and the festering cancer of leftist extremism that Corbyn has brought into the party. But I cannot help but feel this is a mistake. The last attempt to do this, the SDP in the 1980s, ended in failure, and so has every other splinter group that has left Labour over the past 120 years. What may be different this time is that the Brexit crisis is splitting both parties. If a significant number of Remainer MPs leave both Labour and the Tories, and link up with the Lib Dems and the SNP, they could form a Remain Front that might win public support as the truth about the total fraud that is Brexit becomes more obvious. But the likelihood is that this won’t happen, and that the split in Labour will just hand the Tories another term in office once they find someone (anyone) other than May to lead them. February 18, 2019 at 3:14 pm #244507 bloodtellerParticipant >Politics, religion and Red Dwarf VIII. These are the only rules. I can’t tell if this is a reference to the Better Than Life novel, or if it’s just a genuine list of things best not discussed on the site February 18, 2019 at 6:52 pm #244509 Ben SaundersParticipant Bold of anybody to call the Labour party “left”. You don’t know what left is. England doesn’t have a left wing party February 18, 2019 at 7:47 pm #244510 Ian SymesKeymaster This thread will not go well. February 18, 2019 at 7:53 pm #244511 (deleted)Participant Why did RamesesNiblickTheThird combine two rival factions of the Labour Party into one though? February 18, 2019 at 9:11 pm #244534 siParticipant ,blockquote>This thread will not go well. Politics and G&T do not sit well together. February 18, 2019 at 9:12 pm #244535 siParticipant Oh, will someone sort out that edit feature please? February 19, 2019 at 1:05 pm #244576 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant I’m going to split from G&T and create my own forum with an edit button February 19, 2019 at 8:10 pm #244600 siParticipant I’m going to split from G&T and create my own forum with an edit button It’s definitely tempting. February 19, 2019 at 8:30 pm #244602 Paul MullerParticipant I nominate this thread for Hall of Shame status. February 20, 2019 at 11:06 am #244642 RamesesNiblickTheThirdBlocked After Eight anyone? February 20, 2019 at 1:15 pm #244643 GlenTokyoParticipant Who goes “I’m really mad about those labour MPs that broke away and would like to discuss it” and then goes to a Red Dwarf fan site full of people that aren’t even British, or are possibly too young to have voted in a general election. Can’t you go to the Daily Mail comments section and vent your spleen. February 20, 2019 at 1:43 pm #244644 DaveParticipant Who goes “I’m really mad about those labour MPs that broke away and would like to discuss it” and then goes to a Red Dwarf fan site full of people that aren’t even British, or are possibly too young to have voted in a general election. Who? Only a yoghurt. February 21, 2019 at 10:57 am #244706 Taiwan TonyParticipant I was too busy stockpiling rice and sharpening my hammer to notice. February 21, 2019 at 12:21 pm #244708 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant Who sharpens a hammer? February 21, 2019 at 1:36 pm #244709 bloodtellerParticipant Someone with a hammer that’s too blunt February 21, 2019 at 1:41 pm #244710 DaveParticipant This reminds me of my planned Sherlock/Thor flatshare crossover comedy that was going to be called Holmes Under The Hammer. February 21, 2019 at 2:24 pm #244711 Pete Part ThreeParticipant That reminds me of my planned pornographic movie starring Katie Holmes and MC Hammer. February 21, 2019 at 2:55 pm #244712 siParticipant Homes Under The Hammer was the original title for DIY SOS, wasn’t it? February 21, 2019 at 6:44 pm #244717 Plastic PercyParticipant Why does Jonathan Pie always have his shirt done up but his tie loosened? February 21, 2019 at 6:51 pm #244718 (deleted)Participant Jonathan Pie was developed with the financial and editorial assistance of an international regime that empowers, funds and tacitly promotes concentration camps for gay men in Chechnya on a organised scale of ambition not seen since the Holocaust, and yet still the shitty fucking material is somehow *worse*. But hey, if an ethically barren Lord Haw Haw tribute act reading out Brendan O’Neill columns whilst unconvincingly flapping his ear cartilage is your thing, be my guest. February 21, 2019 at 8:44 pm #244719 Paul MullerParticipant Honestly, if anyone wants to hit me up on Twitter (@paulusmuller) and have a chat about this whole business, I’d be more than happy to engage – it takes very little to send me off on one about politics. But again, I’d rather not do it on G&T. It’s important to have a bit of headspace away from the 24/7 rolling political shitshow, some kind of hobby or activity that allows you to forget it for a moment. If you’re engaging with current affairs, especially politics, all the time – I can tell you from personal experience, it just makes you very unhappy and sends you a bit odd. February 21, 2019 at 10:21 pm #244720 Ben SaundersParticipant Jonathan Pie shouts too much. Why is he so angry? Nobody wants to be shouted at and talked down to like that, he’s just preaching to the converted. February 21, 2019 at 10:41 pm #244721 bloodtellerParticipant I’ve never seen the appeal of Jonathan Pie. It’s just some prick in a suit making needlessly aggressive rants about stuff. Is it meant to be funny? What’s the target audience here? Plus, said rants are a load of bollocks February 21, 2019 at 11:11 pm #244722 RamesesNiblickTheThirdBlocked It’s bollocks if your a Tory I suppose. February 21, 2019 at 11:33 pm #244723 WarbodogParticipant >Jonathan Pie shouts too much. Why is he so angry? Why was Brilliant Kid in The Fast Show so positive all the time? J.P. man should expand his one-note repertoire with other hilarious comedy characters, show us you have range. Although saying that, I couldn’t stomach much of Sacha Baron Cohen’s last series because it meant being reminded of or learning about depressing shit that I just don’t need to worry about in life.
