Six of the Best Part 2

It occurred to me last night that with 12 series now, it would be fun to see what episodes people would choose for a second round of Six of the Best spanning Series VII-XII. I also think it would be fun to pick what episodes GNP would choose for the release.

I normal treat BTE as a whole, but everywhere else (including the polls here) treat them as separate episodes, so 1 of the 3 parts of BTE will have to be included

Mine picks would be

I really wanted to include Twentica, but that’s far to similar to Tikka (in that they go back in time to earth and there is an altered time line) so had to go with G&T instead

Would you say the idea of “Six of the Best” is to include the best episode from each series, or to include an episode from each series which collectively showcases a good variety of styles and characters?

Because it’s possible someone’s favourite episodes from each series include Stoke Me A Clipper, Cassandra, The Beginning, Officer Rimmer and Skipper, but you might not want a box set to be so focused on Rimmer.

Because it’s possible someone’s favourite episodes from each series include Stoke Me A Clipper, Cassandra, The Beginning, Officer Rimmer and Skipper, but you might not want a box set to be so focused on Rimmer.

I’m not even sure the original Six of the Best select the best episodes from each series, I think it is just a good collection of what Red Dwarf is.

That’s why I suggested your own personal Six of the Best, and then six that GNP might potentially pick, so you could do a favourites list vs what an actual product might look like

I think Future Echoes, Queeg, Polymorph, Dimension Jump, Back to Reality and Gunmen of the Apocalypse is a fair description as the best episode from each series even if I don’t personally agree with 4 of them.

I’d go for:

Series IX: Back to Earth Director’s Cut
Series X: The Beginning*
Series XI: Give & Take
Series XII: Skipper

*not my favourite episode from these series but I think the one that would best fit such a release.

I think John is probably closest to what might actually be released though, if they were to do a Dave era set.

I’d buy a Dave best of if we could get some commentaries and new extras. There are lots of unreleased deleted scenes and I’d kill for XI/XII outtake reels edited more like the X one rather than pissy little US-style web videos.
