You see I have this Make-your-own-opoly set (available in all good toy and game stores) where you can print out board squares of your own naming and put them on a board that is almost but not quite (in a very legal sense) the same as that from a certain popular board game. Of course unscrupulous types could put these stickers on a regular Monopoly board, which is of course shocking and not to be considered. So, thinks I, why not a board based around places and/or items from the Red Dwarf? Old Kent Road and Whitechapel could become Skutters’ Broom Cupboard and Technicians’ Quarters, and so on. You have your Utilities and Stations to consider, Jail could be The Tank, Free parking the Docking Bay. The money of course is in Dollarpounds. Chance could be “Oh Smeg! What the smegging smeg’s he smegging done?” and Community Chest could be, I dunno, Yvonne McGruder? Consider the pieces as well. I might be tempted to use the figures from the Starbug playset, but what would you have as more “traditional” white metal pieces? Talkie Toaster, a Skutter, a Polymorph, a Starbug, a thermos flask and a spare head spring to mind for starters. The whole building houses and hotels thing doesn’t really work, but you might instead have, say cans of Leopard Lager, four being exchanged for a Mutton Vindaloo or some such. Any thoughts? I’m a bit swamped with various other projects at the moment, and they’re more important. can’t see anything past those, also I need to have a fair amount of free time as well and that seems to be precious little… November 10, 2008 at 6:15 pm #86683 PhilParticipant Maybe if you didn’t spend so much time popping up in Family Guy. November 12, 2008 at 10:44 am #86714 Danny StephensonKeymaster I didn’t realise that by putting the picture up, that so many people wanted this game making! I appreciate the comments and kind words you’ve all given me. I really, really do! However, I have to stress that I can’t be reproducing this game en masse. The legal implications, I shouldn’t have to tell you, are huge. Don’t get me wrong, guys. I would love to create tons of games and give them out, ie. not make a profit. But at the end of the day it would be like selling t-shirts on CafePress. I’ve always disagreed with that, and I think it would be incredibly hypocritical of me to do essentially the same here. I’m trying to be responsible about this, really. The last thing a Red Dwarf fan ever would want to do is annoy the creators. November 12, 2008 at 11:34 am #86715 PhilParticipant Just distribute it under the name Ian Symes and everything will be gravy. November 12, 2008 at 12:30 pm #86716 TheLeenParticipant Danny, no one can stop you from making a fan game and giving it to me as a present. Also, no one can stop me from giving you an equally nice present back. Like… I don’t know. Money? ;) Or you could just send copies of the files you use around as some kind of joke and people can make their own copy of the game, or something. That’s what we did back then with our computergame-based risk. November 12, 2008 at 1:18 pm #86717 Danny StephensonKeymaster Danny, no one can stop you from making a fan game and giving it to me as a present. November 13, 2008 at 12:51 am #86733 MnoooahParticipant OK: Opportunity Knocks, my friend!!! Ridley Scott is supposedly officially directing a Blade Runneresque version of MONOPOLY. Obviously SMEGUPOLY is a much better choice. It’s up to you and GNP to get together and set him straight. We will get that film made AT ANY COST!
