    Drama club, inaugural meeting after the end of school, 2001. We sat in the room as Mr. Bailey the drama teacher talked about the play we’d be doing. There was a silence. Then it happened.

    I knew it was coming, but I thought it’d be a squeaker. Quiet, stealthy, almost inaudible to the human ear. Oh, how wrong I was. The resulting sound was like the car horn on a Mini Metro. Everyone knew where it’d come from. The looks on their faces still haunt me today.

    I was never invited to drama club again. That was the end of my career.
