say one of the 2 happen –

    a) Holly activates Kochanski at Lister’s request, so Dave, (holo) Kris, Cat and later Kryten are alone in space together

    b) Holly finds power 2 maintain 2 holograms, so activates both Rimmer and Kris

what would happen? I think things would become awkward and Kochanski would eventually ask to be turned off and replaced by the Captain, or maybe her and Dave would find a new deeper relationship. Kochanski and Rimmer both being holos would make a lot of tension, as (despite not getting on) they would be able to turn to each other for touch (even just a hug, or playing sports, let alone a potential romance) which would make Lister jealous.

It wouldn’t be as funny either way.

In love but tragically unable to touch, they’d solve crimes together in a quirky storybook-esque world.

Wasn’t that the original plan for Series II?

You’d hope the undead-ed party would have some say in the matter, wouldn’t you, otherwise Krissy (who presumably had a love life after Lister) being resurrected by her ex boyfriend to spend the rest of his life alone with him in deep space doesn’t sound like an ideal situation for her, really, does it?

And that’s assuming we’re in the retconned history between the two… it’d be even weirder if it’s just a bloke she’s barely spoken to.

Other than the disco scene, and Rimmer claiming she emphasized the Rim in his name, do we actually have any evidence that Kochanski had a negative opinion of Rimmer? They are fairly polite in Last Human if that counts.

I always took it to be entirely Rimmer’s issue with her, rather than her having any kind of problem with him.

I suppose in the Ouroboros flashback she does seem a bit irritated with him, but it’s understandable under the circumstances, and it’s also arguably a different universe.

I think it’s the same principle as Rimmer getting pissy at Todhunter, or flip-flopping between praising and bashing Hollister. He respects the position of officerhood but he seems to resent his superiors when they don’t take his bullshit seriously.

I feel like Rimmer would thrive with Kochanski around, the pressure of being the most high ranking person left would be off him so he could go back to concentrating on his exams etc, she could even help him study.

    1. There’s no pressure managing an automated ship with a crew of three and no mission whatsoever.

    2. There is no way Rimmer’s pride would enable him to accept any help with his exams. Remember how he reacted to Lister helping him with Esperanto?

    3. In Last Human, Kochanski is actually in charge and Rimmer hates it.
