Anyway, one of the books I got out was Is There Life Outside The Box? – An Actor Despairs by the acclaimed actor and cricketer Peter Davison, whom you may remember from such television programs Campion, Sink or Swim, A Very Peculiar Practice, The Last Detective, and of course his breakout role as lovably mischievous vet-in-training Tristan Farnon in All Creatures Great and Small, the beloved TV series based on the memoirs of veterinarian James Wight. I’ve since sent the book back so I can’t offer any direct quotations, but in the book Davison briefly mentioned that he was either considered for, or offered the part of, bumbling leisure centre manager Gordon Brittas in the lead role of The Brittas Empire – the part, as you know, eventually played in the inimitable fashion of Christopher Jonathan Brown. So we can assume it didn’t work out with Davison in whatever way. For his part, Davison was very graceful about how well Barrie did with it and was very complimentary about the role, and he said he would’ve played it very differently. And it only occurred to me in retrospect that Brittas was half of the reason Chris suffered what he described as ‘git overload’ that led to his reduced capacity in Series VII. So at the risk of posting what might appear to some to be yet another tedious alternative scenario when they’ve basically been done to death on this forum by a certain user who shall remain so totally, totally whatever-it-was he made people feel about him that they felt they had to make three separate threads about how much of a total total one he was…. What if? March 11, 2022 at 6:46 am #272262 WarbodogParticipant Maybe Peter Davison wouldn’t have been in that episode of Jonathan Creek he was in and Chris Barrie would have subbed. Neither Peter Davison nor The Brittas Empire have any connection to Red Dwarf, so why should we have a thread asking this question on a Red Dwarf-centred fansite?” March 13, 2022 at 2:11 pm #272304 Future Producer of Series IX – aaaaany day nowParticipant We’d be asking “Who cares?
