There is to be a screening of both Twentica and Samsara, taking place on 22nd September (ie. the day the series launches on the telly) at London’s fashionable Prince Charles Cinema, which was also the venue for the Series X premiere nearly four years ago. The organisers have very kindly got in touch with us to provide more details, along with five pairs of tickets to give away exclusively to registered G&T users. Hurrah! Here’s the blurb:

Red Dwarf returns to our screen for the 11th series on Thursday 22nd September and to celebrate, Dave are hosting an exclusive screening of the first two episodes, for the ultimate Red Dwarf fans.

On Thursday 22nd September from 7pm, the Red Dwarf spaceship will arrive in central London offering a unique fan experience, with themed refreshments, memorabilia from the show and exclusive merchandise.

Help us to celebrate the return of Lister, Rimmer, Cat and Kryten by coming in costume and bringing the characters to life at this one-off screening.

Unfortunately the venue does not have disabled access. They have been refused permission to put a stair lift in the building due to narrow staircases, so both the screen and the bar area are inaccessible without using the staircase. The venue are continuing to search for a solution to this issue.

As TOS reports, free tickets are available right now, on a first-come-first-served basis by emailing reddwarf@taylorherring.com. We imagine they’ll be gone pretty sharpish, so we’re holding back our five pairs until the weekend. Details of how to get your grubby little hands on them will be revealed in this weekend’s DwarfCast; we’ll give you a heads-up on Twitter when we’re about to publish, so that you can be ready. Lurkers be warned that you’ll have to be a registered user in order to be eligible, but that’s OK because registrations are currently wide open.

But anyway, that’s not the only exciting news from today. TOS also has a write-up on Doug’s special award for turning up to a screening that was falsely advertised as a world premiere lifetime achievement. Even more exciting than that is this picture, tweeted by all the official accounts this morning:

Doesn’t that just look splendid? The crew in their Twentica get up, with the Cat and Lister looking effortlessly cool, Rimmer sporting a fetching bow tie, and Kryten looking just like Kryten is supposed to look. Speaking of which, Chris McAleer has pointed out that @RedDwarfHQ has a new cover image, which is similar-but-not-quite-the-same as the original press pic:

Now, isn’t that just infinitely better? Not only is the background a lot less cluttered, and not only is the ship a lot more prominent, but Kryten actually looks like Kryten, as opposed to an angular Michael McIntyre. As you can see, it’s this variant that’s also being used for the screening invite above, as well as on the front page of TOS, so hopefully this will be the version from now on, when it comes to adverts and DVD covers and whatnot.

And finally, in what has become an unofficial newsround, Dave will be following up last weekend’s Series 2 marathon with, naturally, a Series IV marathon, from 1pm-5pm on Saturday 3rd September. It was so much fun last week that we’ll tune in and tweet along again, and you never know, we might even get a new trailer variant out of it. Do join us.

  • It’s those gloves on Kryten’s costume still, it just looks so unnaturally big like they are full of air and ready to pop.

Also, as I won’t be in London for another month, I can’t enter the comp, so feck that! Enjoy it you lucky sods, whoever gets to attend that is.

  • We don’t want preview tickets, we want to watch it the same time as everyone else.

It’s only episode 2 that’s a preview though – episode 1 you will be watching the same time as everyone else.

But Episode 2 will be available online that day too, so everyone could watch that at the same time too.

  • I have discovered that there is a train that will get me to London on time after work so I have applied for tickets. I’m doubtful I’ll get any as I was a bit late applying, if I don’t get them it wasn’t meant to be. Getting home on time for work the next day is the challenge. I’ll have to get the 11:30 coach home and try and get some shut-eye on there. That’s what I did for the Series X Premier but I do remember working the next day being a challenge.

  • That second press pic (aka Promo take 2) has been used by Dave on their site for at least a week. Someone (sorry, can’t remember who) pointed it out in a G&T comment somewhere, and I followed up with a link to the image. Can I remember or find which thread it was? Can I bollocks. Someone else go and find it for me, I’ve got to go to work now.

The Fools Gold thread, found it when looking for Marooned’s next air date (next week).

Themed refreshments sounds good, always enjoy a Vimto and liquid nitrogen.

  • That’s Vimto, pronounced “Wimtwoah” and covered with a laughter wash in the dub to distract the bad line reading. Delicious.

  • The Dapper Suits shot is my new wallpaper. I was totally hoping for a promo shot like this.

It’s like The Avengers banner of silly sci-fi.

  • (In a tony hawks accent) Hello? Hello? Have you seen a bloke called Ian five foot longish hair? I’m supposed to present myself by name and win some tickets?

Oh no, They’ve bloody sent me to wrong bloody thread and too late again!!!!! Dam it.
