Cool for Cat News Posted by Jonathan Capps on 29th March 2007, 11:26 The Radio Times has conducted a nicely distracting but ultimately worthless poll to find out just who is the coolest man on television (because, you know, women can never be cool). As you can see the answer is that Who is the coolest person on television, so no surprises there. However, our very own The Cat has managed to gatecrash the whole shebang at number 5. Now, that’s cool with a capital COO. Or something.
> because, you know, women can never be cool The poll was for ‘coolest person’ though, wasn’t it, not ‘coolest man’? So it’s only filthy stinking voting public’s fault that no women placed in the top ten. (A notification email I recieved suggested that there were women further down the list…) BTW, Danny was apparently on Radio 5 Live’s breakfast show yesterday (the 28th) to discuss the poll result.
Ah, yes, whoops, I took the headline literally and didn;t spot that it was actually for the coolest ‘person’ and not man. Anyway, Kate from Lost should clearly be in the that top 5. I find it faintly bizarre that Danny was on 5 Live to discuss the outcome of a magazine poll… was he plugging something else?
>Also, Mr. Darcy isn?t cool, he?s a big git. Thats true, but in a recent adaptation he was played by someone who is, I think the phrase is “liek toatly hawt”, which probably makes him very cool indeed in the eyes of those polled here.
Should a Lady be cool or hot? Perhaps both hence the seemingly luke warm response! I suppose it may be “worthless” as polls go, but it’s still good to see a Dwarf character still in the minds of readers..
> Anyway, Kate from Lost should clearly be in the that top 5. Yeah, especially the way she climbed up the branch to get over that sonic fence thing. She is an extreeemely delectable lady but also very cool (unlike Jack who has just become an annoying asshole, although Locke has regained some of the coolness which he lost).
> So it?s only filthy stinking voting public?s fault that no women placed in the top ten. Name me one cool woman then, go on.
Mary Astor Chrissie Hynde Myrna Loy Aeon Flux (in her original incarnation) Molotov Cocktease (from Venture Bros…probably the single coolest I can think of) Leather Tuscadero Debbie Harry DL Chastain (Pynchon’s Vineland) Emmylou Harris The Pink Power Ranger
-Just about any character Mae West ever played–hell, Mae West herself -Thursday Next from Jasper Fforde’s first published novel series, and DS Mary Mary from his Nursery Crime series of novels -Emma Peel from The Avengers (the old TV show, not the mediocre movie made with its name) And at the risk of having none of you know who I’m talking about– -Lucca and Ayla from the video game Chrono Trigger. Also, if Phil’s going to name the Pink Power Ranger, I guess I can name just about every main female character in the anime and manga Pretty Soldier Sailormoon, along with Faye Valentine and Edward (who, despite the name, is female) from the anime and manga series Cowboy Bebop.
>Also, if Phil?s going to name the Pink Power Ranger I am going to name her and there’s NOTHING you can do to stop me. Also, add Ruth Underwood, Frank Zappa’s longterm percussionist, to that list. Then listen to anything she did live with that man and you pretty much just experienced the definition of cool. Mo Tucker. Margot Tenenbaum. Eliza from Quicksilver. Kerry Kenny. Dr. Girlfriend. June Carter Cash.
Lucca and Ayla from the video game Chrono Trigger. Yes! And most female characters WHO AREN’T CHILDREN in Final Fantasy games. Especially Tifa and Rikku. I don’t think Cat is cool at all. I think he’s just a bit of an idiot.
MARTHA FUCKING JONES is very cool. Hah, I just realised that said “Martha Fucking”. You know, like mother… oh, never mind. Anyway, she’s ace.
No, Ace was with Seven. She only *tried* to be cool. Seems to be common to those with that name. Now Romana was cool.
>Yes! And most female characters WHO AREN?T CHILDREN in Final Fantasy games. Especially Tifa and Rikku. You knew what I was talking about! ^_^ I guess I could’ve said Marle, but I wasn’t too impressed with her. You non-gaming types can ignore the next bit of this sentence, but I think Marle’s a love interest/healbot with a few Ice spells tacked on (altho’ I always liked the Antipode spells and some other of her Dual Techs). I epsecially liked Lucca because you’ll note she’s (a) nobody’s love interest and (b) not given ginormous boobs in a revealing outfit; in fact I think she’s a female geek presented in a fairly positive light. And that, naturally, is fine by me. Of course, Ayla is given ginormous boobs in a revealing outfit, but to make up for it she really is quite the ass-kicker. What about Arche Klein from Tales of Phantasia?
Is Jack Bauer actually cool? I would assume so, since lots of people rave about 24, but I have never seen it. I remember watching the trailers on BBC2 when it was about to start but somehow I forgot to watch it. And I have been forgetting to watch it ever since. Nice to see Gene Hunt on there. He truly is a bad dude.
>A criminal exclusion: Tanya Jones. You’re just wanting me to hurry up and send you those Coogan DVDs, aren’t you? Will try and get them filled with cool programming this weekend.
No, I meant it. You’re sandwiched between June Carter Cash and the Pink Power Ranger. … Excuse me…I need to use the rest room.
>No, I meant it. You?re sandwiched between June Carter Cash and the Pink Power Ranger. Well, no-one’s ever said THAT to me before…
>>No, I meant it. You?re sandwiched between June Carter Cash and the Pink Power Ranger. >Well, no-one?s ever said THAT to me before? I wish somebody had said it to me!
Just remembered this one–while I guess she’s technically covered by what John said about the grown-up girls in the FF series, I think it’s worth pointing out adult Rydia from FFII or IV or whatever it is is quite the ass-kicker, what with her being an almost insanely powerful summoner and all.
