SPOILER WARNING: This article, including the links and comments within, contain some plot details for Back To Earth. But, as usual, they’re so vague that they’re not going to make any difference to your enjoyment of the episodes.
Anyway, the short version is: Red Dwarf filmed some stuff at John Lewis in Kingston.
Now, for the Americans and the stupid people reading, this would be Kingston-Upon-Thames, which is in London, rather than the capital of Jamaica. And John Lewis’s is a big old department store – this branch in particular seems popular with film crews, for some reason.
Anyway, Dwarf shot there recently, and used it for a fictional department store called “Price Smashers”. Suddenly, that picture from earlier makes much more sense – that sign says Price Smashers! You can just about make it out from the bottoms of the letters now we know – the S and the M from Smashers must be in the fist, but you can make out the “ashers” quite clearly. And the wooden stuff? Some sort of furniture, clearly. Excellent.
The action apparently involves “sliding along the floor at high speed, smashing up signs and crashing into tables”, from which we can surmise… well, absolutely bugger all. Not that it’ll stop us. As a bonus, we have an all-new, shitty, low-res picture of the boys in action. Marvel as they go down an escalator. Hooray!
Possible taglines for this article include:
“She was so gorgeous, she could have shot some footage behind the perfume counter at Lewis’s.”
“My film crew’s gone to Kingston/Jamaica?/No, they went of their own accord.”
EDIT: littlesmegger has been fiddling with his URLs, and found a bigger version of the image – clicky here.
